National Review asks: Did WaMu fail because it employed minorities?
(updated below)National Review’s Mark Krikorian notes that (1) Washington Mutual became the largest bank to fail in American history yesterday and (2) its last press release touted the fact that it was named one of America’s most diverse employers, having been “honored specifically for its efforts to recruit Hispanic employees, reach out to Hispanic consumers and support Hispanic communities and organizations”; for being “named [one of] the top 60 companies for Hispanics”; for “attaining equal rights for GLBT employees and consumers”; for having “earned points for competitive diversity policies and programs, including the recently established Latino, African American and GLBT employee network groups”; and for being “named one of 25 Noteworthy Companies by Diversity Inc magazine and one of the Top 50 Corporations for Supplier Diversity by Hispanic Enterprise magazine.”
While juxtaposing these two facts — (1) WaMu has a racially and ethnically diverse workforce and (2) WaMu collapsed yesterday — the National Review writer headlined his post: “Cause and Effect?” He apparently believes that the reason Washington Mutual failed may be because it employed and was too accommodating to large numbers of Hispanics, African-Americans and gays.

The entire defense of the financial collapse is that banks were tricked into lending money to [greedy/lazy/stupid] poor people by the Clinton administration–no explaination of why the practice continued under free market hero GWB.
The CRA has been in existance for years and in no way does it tell banks hyper lever yourself and fail to provision for risk. This is a lie being advanced to create noise: cover for the real cause–deregulation and failure of the gatekeepers.

We agree on quite a bit even if our posts were off to a rough start last month.
I can be a jerk sometimes.Sorry.
Nevertheless,
This post does show the growing nationaist socialist views which alarmingly are gaining time in the press.
In particular, I thought that Joyce Foster’s opponent in SD35 was just an isolated incident of misguided thinking.
He stated in a channel 8 debate that Gov.Ritter was a dictator and that the Democrats were his puppetes. He stated in an earlier debate that minority contracting accounted for all of Colorado’s economic problems. His thinking coincides with the radical right pieces you cite.
It’s clear that these false statements of propaganda must be challenged up front every time. Letting personal incidents go without stating something is wrong and condones by silence.
I can’t believe they didn’t blame the Jews first. 🙂
Bring out the AIPAC conspiracies…
Also, Ray wouldn’t know “national socialist views” if Godwin came up and bit him in the face.
SO now your ranting about the Jewish lobby?
This board is filled with anonymous bigots.
As I said, that conspiracy theory is resident in the Lefty camp.
Learn to read.
And you still don’t know crap about “national socialism,” though I appreciate the creative attempt to dodge Godwin’s Law.
That’s not how it reads. Your attempt to say that you are not attacking AIPAC I find specious.
I have no desire to talk about “Godwins” law at all.
You know that you really aren’t anonymous. Making anti Semitic posts I’d advise can be detrimental to your career in any field.
I know there are people on this blog that are clearly anti Semitic and racist. I hope people write what they truly believe.
Through honest, open discussions we may be able to bring everyone to a better understanding of all racial backgrounds and examine what our true fears are.
The blog has to be protected as a place for real freedom of speech, hopefully without consequences, except the pointed responses of other bloggers.
That conservatives are Nazis, but that’s exactly what I was saying – that Lefties are usually the ones to break out the AIPAC conspiracies. (cf. the ever-unhinged Andrew Sullivan).
So before you threaten someone, you’d probably better have a clue what they’re actually writing, rather than inventing stuff and getting caught in your own libel.
No threat. It’s the truth. I guess that you’ve tried to modify your statement.
You don’t want AIPAC making inquiries, I suppose.
It doesn’t work. The vile Zionist conspiracies that you quote come directly from the right. Right wing crack pots try to rewrite history all of the time. They claim the holocaust didn’t exist. They also try to say that Bolshevism is a Zionist conspiracy.
AIPAC is a strong lobby that does not promote hatred of minorities.
Most Jews that I now are Democrats, or what you would call left.
A true left doesn’t exist anymore unless the Bush admin qualifies by going full circle and is nationalizing property. Some conservative Jews exist, but they are not bigots.
I find your entire line of argument specious and won’t respond to you again.
Mahmoud Ahmedinejad is a right-wing neocon.
You’re brilliant.
You said that the Iranian leader is a neocon. I didn’t.
You don’t have to be a Nazi to be anti Semitic.
The thought that AIPAC conspiracies come from the left, however, is ludicrous.
The right wing in America tries to rewrite history and even claim that the Nazis were left wing. This comes from either the uneducated that haven’t studied political theory, or the leadership which doesn’t want to have it’s policies shown to be what they truly are which is a travesty and a mirror of hatred that blames societies problems on minority races. That’s where this discussion started before being deflected by an idiot that belives AIPAC promotes bigotry.
You clearly aren’t worth responding to anymore either.
If you don’t buy my proof, there’s always the “Bush Conspiracy” 9/11 trufer crap. You know who wasn’t in the buildings… (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
It’s all absurd conspiracy theory, anyway.
Though there’s no problem with calling conservatives all sorts of names. I wonder why that is….
Though the Nazis were left wing. That’s what the “socialism” part is about. You know, words mean things. The difference between Soviet communism and national socialism, though, was instead of caring about “Workers of the World,” it was “Workers of the Fatherland.” Which is still a proletarian, left-wing movement.
AIPAC receiving intelligence illegally is a conspiracy theory. Not sure about the other ones though, whatever they may be.
The “socialist” part of their name was BS. It was a smokescreen. They were fascists, i.e., an intermixing of the business community into government.
Socialists my ass.
While they were right of the communists, you can’t be left of them, so that’s not exactly a good marker.
It wasn’t a “mixing” of business and state, it was control of business by the state. The businesses as entities remained (the difference with socialism), but their independence, well, it didn’t exist.
Both were clearly statist movements.
But you are right it be nice if you were included with the other groups that face discrimination. Guess you’ll just have to settle for being an abomanation in the eyes of the lord.
