  1. Yes, thank you Sen Gardner.  And good work to all the hunters, fishers, conservationists, elected officials and business people that pushed him in the correct direction on this.  Keep pushing.

  2. they perverted the meaning of “liberal” to attack anyone who sees the greater good in this or who thinks we’re all in this together (remember Michael “You’re doing a heckuva job Brownie” Brown?)……they also perverted the meaning of “conservative” to refudiate most of its common sense principles about caretaking, investing, truly conserving the resources we have.

    Thank you, Frank Luntz.

    1. With the help of cowardly Dems scared into agreeing that “liberal” is a dirty word. Scared into begging not to be considered too liberal, unlike Rs, always proud to be considered staunch conservatives. The stauncher the better. They strutted their stuff. Dems cowered. Why did Dems invent the term “progressive” if not in concession to conservative Rs that the once proud identification “liberal” was to be treated like nuclear waste?

Dems deserve more of the blame than any Frank Luntz. He was doing his job and was good at it. Using whatever you can think of against your opponents is what you’re supposed to do in the political arena. Responding like spineless blubbering cowards when you’re attacked is not.

  3. Gee what a coincidence. Arkansas Governor Hitchinson swore he’d sign his state legislature’s so called religious freedom bill just like Pence did in Indiana. He wasn’t going to let a little controversy scare him. No way. Then he got the message from Walmart. Don’t sign this bill. Suddenly all that resolve melted like a Popsicle on a hot Arkansas summer day. Suddenly he’s not signing without changes. Looks like the civil war between the bigoted religious rightie and the amoral bottom line corporate contingents is heating up. Pass the popcorn.

      1. Yeah. I saw him milking that for folksy charm appeal. Gee… my own son asked me so what could I do, embarrassed grin, fatherly bemusement kind of thing. It’s almost as if he might have asked his son to write that letter just so  today could be about anything but marching orders from Walmart? At the very least least he grabbed it and latched onto it like a starving pit bull on a pork chop when it conveniently came his way. wink

        1. That still better than what state Rep Don Coram did three years ago when his son asked him to vote in favor of the civil unions bill which would have gotten it through the state House. He gave his son some bullshit explanation that it was unconstitutional and he had taken an oath to uphold the constitution, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Although I agree, Hutchinson is really taking his instructions from Walmart which for once, is on the correct side of an issue. He also does not want the blowback that Mike Pence has been feeling. Although it’s not like a lot of folks are going to boycott traveling to Arkansas.

      2. His son didn’t just ask him, he signed a petition against the bill. I think the embarrassment of have his own family divided on the issue put it over. It didn’t hurt to have Mal-wart, one of the largest employers in Arkansas tell him not to sign it.

        1. I saw the clip from the  presser. He looked pleased as punch to be able to say his son signed the petition. Sounds so much better than Walmart yanked my leash. Makes it a kind of cute story.

      1. Obviously some kind of edgy April Fool’s joke . . .

. . . every Republican politician knows that no business would ever, ever discriminate against anyone on the basis of their sexual orientation!!!

Beware the day, and don’t be duped by any of the nonsense.

      1. I like the “Support for Gay Marriage by Age and Party” graph that is in the article.

And, I agree, it was Walmart and what happened to Indiana that really got his attention.  If Arkansas had been first, he probably would have signed it.  As with our own TV, for profit bible thumper, the gop has done this quite willingly to themselves.  And those Heritage hacks are still shamelessly defending Indiana with the same lies Pence used.   Big Ed actually cut the mike on one today.

  4. On a new subject, here’s one that should get a big “duh” response from all those old enough to remember the reign of St. Reagan. Other notable symptoms, much easier to spot than certain speech difficulties, included getting his life on film mixed up with real life thus telling as his own real war experiences stories from his films and thinking he was present at the liberation of a concentration camp, having a really hard time keeping track of what country he was in. Also staying awake. Maybe this is being presented as a scoop in honor of April Fools Day:

  5. Has anyone heard from our three resident trolls lately. I imagine that Elliott is out working to keep sex segregated bathrooms safe from transgendered people. The other two are probably have new instructions downloaded.

        1. Who really needs Moderatus, A/C, Elliott, when you got me, the only true conservative of the four? As you measure the time passing until one of the other three returns, may I humbly suggest paying a visit to You Tube and checking out “Hell’s Bells” by AC/DC. You might also enjoy catching ZZ Top and “The Tube Snake Boogie.” I just caught that one this afternoon.

The bad public lands bill; SB 39; is still up for committee hearing next Monday far as I know. No word yet on when the really bad one, the takeover study bill; SB 232; is up for hearing.

          Regards,    C.H.B.

          1. But you’re pretty much a quaint curiosity. They represent what conservatism means today. Sorry. Not that we don’t appreciate you.

             All the best, BC

    1. They have been conspicuously absent. A troll convention for Modster and AC? Elliot might actually be busy with his day job. Or that rest room thing. The Borg having trouble deciding what to do when Walmart and other heavy hitter free market Obama hating corporate Republicans and the Obama hating provincial base bigot Republicans come down on opposite sides? If anybody watches Fox I’m curious how they’re handling this. Since their viewership is the latter, probably sticking with them?
