As Politico reports, with the midterm elections rapidly approaching and voters irate with President Donald Trump and the Republican Party over the direction of the country since Trump returned to the Oval Office in January of 2025, Trump will bring the country together for a national address to…that’s right, rehash his defeat in the 2020 presidential election for the million-billionth time:
President Donald Trump is promising to reveal “really big news” on election security. Many Republicans wish he wouldn’t.
The president’s speech, expected to be delivered in prime time Thursday from the White House, comes amid renewed hostilities with Iran, which are once again driving up fuel prices ahead of an election that most strategists still expect to turn on cost-of-living issues.
But instead of touting the recent good news on declining inflation or hyping the new housing law, Trump plans to talk about 2020 and “free and fair elections,” alarming some in the GOP who worry he will continue to make baseless claims or repeat debunked conspiracies.
TPM reports that whatever Trump has cooked up to “reveal” in today’s address is the product of the gobsmackingly unqualified acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte:
Trump is reportedly going to address the safety of voting machines (a post-2020 classic) and allege foreign interference in elections (another classic). According to MS NOW, Trump is expected to speak about declassified intelligence materials on both voting machines and alleged foreign interference efforts, likely related to the 2020 election. Reuters and other outlets are reporting that some of his claims may be about China.
The address seems to be yet another escalation in the administration’s ongoing and seemingly never-ending campaign to scare people into thinking our election system is not safe and that the 2020 election was actually stolen after all.
Acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte and columnist-turned-conspiracy theorist John Solomon, are, per MS NOW, behind this effort to declassify and release these documents.
MSNOW reports that convicted felon former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters is in Washington for tonight’s address, and that election denialists were given some kind of briefing on the contents of tonight’s speech:
Tina Peters, the former Colorado county clerk convicted in a scheme to tamper with voting equipment after the 2020 election, is expected in Washington around Thursday’s announcement, according to a person familiar with the rollout of the speech and document release. Trump welcomed her to the White House in June, weeks after Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, commuted her nine-year prison sentence.
What Trump will actually say remains unclear — including to the people he invited.
On Facebook early this morning, Peters “predicted,” possibly on the basis of those briefings, that Trump will declare a national emergency tonight:

With Trump likely to fire off a volley of repackaged falsehoods that have been debunked repeatedly, news outlets are reportedly struggling with whether they should even carry Trump’s address live. Trump’s credibility on this issue is so non-existent that any reputable outlet has an obligation to at least fact-check his claims in real time.
And if Trump does declare–or attempts to declare–a “national emergency” over the same tired election fraud fiction he has peddled since he lost in 2020?
A judicial and political fracas that could consume all the oxygen until voters turn out in November will ensue. This is an election already expected to be a major Democratic wave, and if Trump chooses to obsess with vote suppression instead of making a case for Republicans to keep their seats, that wave could well become a truly historic tsunami as voters retaliate in defense of their most important right.
That’s why Donald Trump and a few crackpots like Tina Peters are the only people in America who want to go back down this road.
