Poll: Jason Crow Leads Mike Coffman 44-39

Rep. Mike Coffman (left) and Democratic challenger Jason Crow

Results from a new poll from Public Policy Polling are out today with some striking numbers showing Democrat Jason Crow with a 44-39 lead over incumbent Republican Mike Coffman in CD-6. From a press release:

A new Public Policy Polling survey finds that Democratic candidate Jason Crow has a lead over incumbent Republican Congressman Mike Coffman in the 2018 election for Colorado’s 6th Congressional District. In the initial ballot, Crow leads Coffman 44-39. After learning that Crow does not take money from corporate special interest PACs while Coffman has accepted $1.6 million from corporate PACs and just voted to give corporations a huge tax cut, voters support Crow 48-38 over Coffman.

Coffman supporters are furiously trying to downplay these numbers based on polling metrics, sample size, yada yada yada. But any complaints about this particular poll should not overshadow one important note: This is the first public poll we can recall showing anyone leading Coffman since he was first elected in 2008.

Nationwide, polling numbers in a “generic congressional matchup” show Democrats with a potentially-historic advantage in 2018. The hypothetical question currently shows Democrats with a 16-point lead over Republicans; if this trend holds through November, it will be very tough for Coffman to hold onto his seat for another term.
