President Trump.
Or
President <anyone else>
If the same people who voted last time vote this time, we get the same result.
The best way to get new people to vote is probably hats and yard signs and other bullshit.
Only if they vote the same way they voted last time. Primary results in places like Virginia showed a huge increase in turnout so it does look like there will be more voters this time. Unfortunately for Bernie they aren't all young and looking for a revolution.
Well, SOME of the people who voted for Trump last time won't be voting at all this time … I guarantee!!!
The age group voting most frequently (70.9% in 2016) and supporting Trump the most (53% to 44% for Clinton)." Deaths among the group is about 2 million a year. Magic math: 127,800 fewer marginal votes for Trump each year, times 4 — a bit over 500,000 fewer votes.
Complements for a Republican:
State Senator Ray Scott (R-Grand Junction) actually tried to make this the last year we would have to switch to Daylight Savings. SB20-105
Unfortunately in committee Chris Hansen (D), Kerry Donovan (D), and Mike Foote (D) decided to not refer it to the Senate and to postpone it indefinitely on Feb. 19. Thanks_. Well, maybe next year we’ll finally end the madness.
History of attempts to end time switches in Colorado on CPR.
While I mildly prefer year-round daylight savings time I would be almost as happy to stop switching by staying on standard time. This year has not been too bad for me since I remembered to start setting myself back 10 minutes each day on Monday.
The nitpicker in me says you mean “compliments” not “complements”, Denny. My nitpicking complements your substance, and please give your mother my compliments for her great chicken soup.
Ohh, and Trump stinks!
Unfortunately? Not.
If I ever do find myself happening to agree with Ray Scott on anything, I’m gonna’ recheck my premises . . . multiple times.
Brought to you — every damn year — by the same looney tunes, science hating, vaccine averse, climate change denying, flying spaghetti monster venerating, group of clowns . . .
The switch to Daylight Savings kills an average of 28 people each year (CU Today). If they are right on one issue it does not matter if they are wrong every other time. They’re still right.
Hey! Leave the Flying Spaghetti monster out of this. His Noodliness is not anti-science. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster
How to read the new CDC Coronavirus test results: “Virus, Virus, Pirate.” And, Pirates are wild!
(Fans of “The Simpsons” will get this.)
Seriously, regarding the CDC tests we were told by Trump/Pence that there would be 1 million testing kits available by today. Reality: only 75,000 test kits are available. Missed it by 92%.
Heckuva job, Trump/Pence.
Houston, we have a . . .
. . . confirmation.
Going, going, gone, gone, gone, gone — so gone . . .
Real life in the time of the 12 Monkeys . . .
“Science ain’t an exact science with these clowns . . .”
Speaking of monkeys – that dance monkey hook should not be allowed on the radio during morning commute
And there is a start up at some off shore site selling the 12 Monkey Flux Capacitor
car and home kits.
By all means, let's talk about Hunter Biden <insert eye-roll emoji>

Nooo! Shirley you jest!

So much news to highlight today. Check out Terrance Carroll's op-ed in today's Denver Post titled "Ranked=-choice voting could keep Coloradans from wasting votes". I encourage all who agree to propose a platform amendment at tomorrow's caucuses. (And, to follow up with the Rules Committee as advised by Madcow yesterday.)
https://www.denverpost.com/2020/03/05/terrance-carroll-how-ranked-choice-voting-could-have-kept-colorado-voters-from-wasting-their-ballots/
Belongs in Rules committee (you should join – file a statement of interest with Colorado Dems)
Platform could be something like – eliminate caucuses and go with voting primary – all 57 delegate selction jurisdictions in 15 calendar days Feb 1 – Feb 15.
I'd vote for that.
What’s it say about the race when Warren didn’t immediately endorse Sanders after suspending her campaign?
It says, “Don’t take me for granted, futhermuckers. What deal can we make, here?” Reportedly, Warren made even Hillary Clinton wait for her endorsement until conditions (economic advisers) were met.
Rachel Maddow had an interview with Elizabeth Warren yesterday. It is must see TV.
https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/warren-just-a-little-longer-before-we-have-a-woman-in-the-white-house-80114757591
It says she dropped out when there isn't a huge crush to get an endorsement before the next set of primaries.
Next Tuesday brings contests in Idaho (20);Michigan (125);Mississippi (36);Missouri (68);North Dakota (14);Washington (89) = "only" 352 delegates, and all from states I'm not certain Warren would have a major impact on. MI will likely tell the tale about how competitive Sanders can be against the coalition forces.
I'm guessing she will likely make a move before the next week: Arizona (67); Florida (219); Illinois (155); Northern Marianas (6); Ohio (136) = 583 delegates.
But if Michigan is a make or break state and Sanders gets wiped out again then the following week is irrelevant. He needed her strong support this week because there aren't any other events like a debate to help him change the death spiral of his campaign. If she was going to help Sanders this would have been the week. The next set of primaries includes Florida which isn't going to be Sanders territory. Things will only get rockier for Sanders if Michigan isn't a big win for him and he is consistently performing worse compared to 2016.
It says that there is more to Warren than anger at the system. Maybe.
Yeah. It says she is going to stay on the fence like Obama until she sees that Sanders can carry the fight to Bloomberg by himself. Oh wait, Biden is this weeks foe. Sander’s had Warren around like a security blanket the whole campaign so let’s see if he can rise above being petty with his conduct. They were a team onstage. She never slammed him on stage for withholding that he knew about Russian attempts to interfere in the 2020 election for his benefit while the ultimate Putin goal is to reelect Trump. He was never really questioned about why he stayed silent when he could have been seen as someone of integrity who notified everyone about the bad guys immediately instead of letting it come out as a leak.
Just sitting here thinking this evening about how brutally Bernie would have been excoriated, in the press and online, if he had lied and said that he was arrested while trying to visit Nelson Mandela and then followed that lie with another, saying that Madiba had thanked him for it. Must be Biden’s folksy charm.
For sure no one ever has, nor ever will, credibly accuse Bernie of having any charm . . .
I don't like Joe Biden. I never have.
I think he is phony as fuck. He went from senator to VP. Sheesh…what a brutal training ground.
Sure he has faced adversity…many have. It does not excuse his decision making. Time will tell if Joe is anything more than an accomplished second banana.
Jim Clyburn handed him this nomination. The question is…can he hold on to it, now that the Democratic party decided to give him the chance?
No more bullshit, Joe.
This is a big fucking deal.
Joe is a decent guy. Trump is not. End of story.
Is “decenter“ guy a word? . . .
If we’ve learned even one thing from history it should be that no politician is ever worthy of trust . . .
It was his….stutter??
And Dio, people love Bernie for the same reasons many on this blog hate him: he’s stubborn ( consistent for 40 years in politics), outspoken ( a pioneering voice for universal healthcare, against the Iraq war, for a living minimum wage, and many other policies that all Dem candidates now have to at least give lip service to). He’s also an Independent, for which he is excoriated for a lack of Democratic party loyalty – but the 40% of the electorate who are unaffiliated or independent love him for it.
Add to that that Bernie actually is a populist advocate for the working poor (Donald Trump got elected pretending to be one), and you get why there is a love/hate relationship.
The best candidate in the race was Elizabeth Warren, in my opinion. But I’d take Bernie in a heartbeat over Biden, for policy, character, being able to vanquish the Trumpstink, and, yes- charm. And, of course, I’ll vote and work for Biden over Trump, if he’s the nominee.
I wonder when our Conservadem detractors hereabouts are going to excuse us from having to make that disclaimer. The one I almost never hear from them.
There are lots of "posers" out there, kw. Did'ja notice?
Rules for thee, but not for me!
One delegate = “Biden’s Camp” ???
. . . Oh Alexandria, et tu?
Math is hard for the left.
Never.
Or right after a victory.
I would prefer some of Sander’s idea — implemented gradually over time so that folks have time to adjust and plan and thereby limiting any unforeseen or unintended consequences — divorced from has intransigent my-way-now-or-I-burn-it-all-down maximalism (I.e., Warren). Not gonna’ happen this year.
I’m a people, too, BTW. And I’ve had no conversations with anyone this year who loves Sander’s more than they fear what his candidacy might do. “Love”? Some, sure — but probably not any more than dislike or fear.
And, this idea that all these new voters are going to rush to his side once they see the possibility if the glorious coming of the revolution is utter bullshit. Won’t happen. Never has happened before. Anywhere. The held-down proletariat is not going to rise-up and bring forth a new utopia overnight despite all the we-shall-overcone fantasies of an octogenarian adolescent. If there’s anything that the primaries are proving this year is just how crapheaded the fallacy that Sander’s will attract legions of new, energized voters into the process sufficient to carry him to victory in the general actually has been.
PS. the antics of the true-believer berniebros are more off putting than attractive. Just as President Pandemic can be judged by his supporters and the company he keeps, so can Sanders . . .
PPS — Charming he ain’t. But, Hell, even badgers love other badgers. Sander’s is charming like an outbreak of dysentery.
PPPS — I’ll vote for whoever, Sanders or Biden or even Voyager, in the general. But I don’t hold any illusions about two of those three actually defeating Ttump.
Don’t be so pessimistic about Biden, Dio. 😀😀But when I’m elected I’m making mike bowman Agriculture Secretary and putting him in charge of reversing climate change.
skinny Cook goes on the supreme court.
If we were a functioning government we’d have the best of both worlds: conservative (real conservatives, not the TeaBillies) implementation of progressive ideals. Take one example on climate change: George H.W. Bush’s cap-and-trade program piloted on acid rain. An astounding implementation of markets and technology that drove costs down quickly – and ended our acid rain problem. The other example would be MittCare in Massachusetts – *identical* to a program otherwise known as The Affordable Care Act (before it was half-gutted by the MAGAs).
Precisely. Markets are powerful tools but need direction.
basic research and subsidies can produce energy with. Solar, wind, geothermal, batteries. Subsidize the right crops to store carbon in the soil.
use the awesome power of greed — enlightened and regulated greed– to solve our problem s.
But leave the designate d hitter rule alone. We need one thing so evil, so wrong, that all mankind can mobilize against it!
I was somewhat amazed when kw managed to support Warren over Getoffmylawn. As a stalwart supporter of Hillary and Cary Kennedy, I had come to recognize her as a feminist who doesn’t like women. In my case, I had supported Warren since her 2012 Senate race. I liked Amy even more but in the end voted for Warren as the woman with the best chance to win.
Alas, it is not to be. So, yes, I just sent a check to Joe. Bind the wounds, fill the ranks, and march to victory over fascism.
Oh, God made Joe Biden.
He didn’t make him much.
But he made him better
Than that goddamn Trump.
Go sting yourself, Venenoso, you pretentious, old crock.
Ahh,
La Pomposa rides again!
