Seriously? "Republican Party Spent Thousands At Lavish Hotels, Bondage-Themed Club"

Pols Update: How's the view from under that bus, random RNC staffer? From The Associated Press:

The Republican National Committee has fired a staffer who helped organize a $1,946 visit last month to a sex-themed Hollywood club, and the GOP says it will recoup the money from a donor who also participated.

The episode is the latest in a string of questionable spending by the RNC as Republicans prepare for a costly election season in which they hope to take dozens of House and Senate seats from Democrats.

An RNC memo says the Jan. 31 outing to Voyeur West Hollywood involved several members of the "Young Eagles" GOP group who had been in Los Angeles for a meeting. An unnamed staffer, who had been warned that such activities did not qualify for reimbursement, has been fired, said the memo from RNC chief of staff Ken McKay...

...The conservative group Concerned Women for America said the RNC should disclose more about the episode.

"Did they really agree to reimburse nearly $2,000 for a bondage-themed night club?" group president Penny Nance asked in a statement. "Why would a staffer believe that this is acceptable, and has this kind of thing been approved in the past?"

The Daily Caller's Jonathan Strong has basically won the morning with a story about RNC Chairman Michael Steele's lavish lifestyle on the road. Strong reports that Steele "once raised the possibility of using party money to buy a private jet for his travel," and has run up some substantial tabs at some of our nation's nicest hotels. But if you ask me, he sort of buried the lede... probably strategically! Because look what awaits you in paragraph six:

Once on the ground, FEC filings suggest, Steele travels in style. A February RNC trip to California, for example, included a $9,099 stop at the Beverly Hills Hotel, $6,596 dropped at the nearby Four Seasons, and $1,620.71 spent [update: the amount is actually $1,946.25] at Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage-themed nightclub featuring topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex.

I'm not one to judge other people's "family values," but I do not think that the rank & file of the GOP would appreciate this.

Has he commented on this yet?
If not, perhaps he's been tied up.

(Thank you, I'll be here all week. Don't tell my boss that last bit.)

We'll miss you, Gabby.

That should bring anyone down. If true, lets see how it plays out.
This kind of business would handcuff even the best bullshitter.

Staffer fired, now let us see the leadership
communicate the closure ....

Maybe the staffer was trying to score the cost of pre-existing augmentation conditions. ;)

The national GOP
is the gift that keeps on giving.

Sometimes, I guess, you have to let the inner bitch out.

Thank you Sir.....

It's only class warfare if you fight back

Could this be their way out? Or forward as everyone likes to say?
Up until now they didn't dare get rid of him for mere incompetence since he's about all they have to point to to counter constant blow ups over racist  e-mail jokes eminating from the party and it's elected  officials,  racist signs at rallies, cartoons portraying the president as a rapist and the first lady as a chimp, etc.

What's the problem? Did he not tip?
Seriously - they were naked women, right?

Maybe Republicans are more fun than I thought

You haven't been paying attention
Republicans just don't want to seem like they're fun.  Behind the scenes...

I don't know about fun
creepy and self loathing, maybe.

Face palm.
Goodbye, Michael Steele.

He expensed EVERYTHING?
Maybe the old Voyeur West Hollywood club would have been a better charge for the personal credit card, eh?

It would be funnier
if Michael Steele was wearing a blue dress.

Cash is the way to go.

Damn,,,,
Why don't I ever get this kind of invitation?

Denver Broncos... Still Suck!

This really, really, seriously, sucks
I want Michael Steele to stay right where he is.

Today, you're either going to get better or you're going to get worse, but you're never going to be the same.  Which one will it be?  --Joseph V. Paterno

Toast.
Between this (it's a staffer, not Steele) and that idiotic fundraising powerpoint, I think that's about it.

I like Steele, but he's just said some really dumb stuff and seems to have very little control over there.

[ Parent ]
Do you have a copy of the power point n/t?

[ Parent ]
No.
It was all over the blogs.  Stupid stuff.

powerpoint
I wasn't going to bring it up, but since it's up -

It's only occasionally racist and overtly stupid (pp30 & 31). I did find it interesting that there really is no policy strategy. Political strategy- sure. But not based on policy. And they raised a ton of cash.  Also, a concise RNC summary of Citizens v FEC (pp70 & 71)

Excellent

My bet:
The Alice in Wonderland sound bite of "Repeal and Replace" Senator Graham couldn't stop repeating on Sunday will now be applied to Steele.

And if he'd been warned about the expense...
Then how was it that the accountants responsible approved it?  And what about those expenses to Congressional Liquors delivered to the RNC?

Weirdly enough,
this just makes the Republican Party more appealing to me.

Wow
What a topsy turvy republican world we live in.  Soaring with the eagles at the nudie bar one day, choking on bus fumes the next.

A mooch
We ought to get rid of the mooch.   The sex charges are not as outrageous as the hotels (not as much $).  At a max he should abide by the travel allowed for government employees.
