    1. You obviously haven't been taking enough time with The Lord of the Rings trilogy.  Saruman uses it as an insult to the King Theoden. Gandalf uses the term as a denial of weakness to the Lord of Gondor.

I must admit, it is a bit hard to understand how a North Korean translator would grab that word rather than others.

    2. Yeah, well, you know what they say about blind pigs and chubby dictators finding an acorn now and again??? . . .

(. . . still it is somewhat disheartening to learn that Kim has a better command of the English language than our own SodaFounainofJustice.)

  1. Sarah Palin and Sebastian Gorka walked into a train depot in Alabama last night. They traveled there on the "battle bus", which was emblazoned with the sign, "AlabamaDerservesMoore.com". (sic) The "alabamaderservesmoore.com" website goes to the campaign site of Moore's Democratic opponent, Doug Jones. Someone's been busy.

At the train depot, Palin and Moore stirred up a few hundred Moore supporters. They were vigorously backed by Breitbart's returned editor, Steve Bannon.Moore, if you recall, was the judge who was fired for refusing to marry gay couples in Alabama. He has also been a long time mentor for our own Dr. Chaps.

And he is now one of four people running to take Jeff Sessions Senate seat.

Trump is choosing corrupt over crazy; he is supporting Moore's opponent, former AL Attorney General Luther Strange. Trump will travel to Alabama tonight to campaign for Strange, who mysteriously failed to investigate the sex offenses of Governor "Horndog" Bentley. Somehow, Strange was appointed to Jeff Sessions' senate seat. He is now trying to keep that seat, but challenged by disbarred Judge Moore.

Governor Bentleywas caught in a series of Ewwww-inducing sexting with his aide, and was subsequently forced to resign.

Luther Strange is  was supposed to be investigating Bentley's behavior, but took no action prior to reporters breaking news about the scandal. Strange also took money from former (now jailed)  Speaker Hubbard's PAC.

You may place your bets on this red-on-red showdown at the train depot window, where you may also purchase your popcorn.

    1. Strictly speaking, MJ, Strange Luther was the state A.G., not D.A., but your point is well taken.

He was the prosecutor looking into Horn-Dog's escapades when Horn-Dog just happened to think that Luther was the most qualified person in the Yellow Hammer State to fill the small shoes of its long-time cracker, J. Beauregard Sessions.

      1. Yup, AG not DA.  I was in a hurry this am. I'll fix it. Moore is ahead in all the polls, so he'll probably be the Republican nominee.

Democrats think that their nominee Doug Jones will have a good shot at the seat if Moore is the R nominee. Apparently, Trump, Pence, and McConnell think so, too, as they're all campaigning for the "moderate" Strange. (moderate only compared to batshit crazy).

Fox News featured Herr Gorka and Sarah Palin twisting themselves into pretzels explaining how voting for Moore isn't voting against Trump – it's still voting "for the President's agenda". Yep.

If you like red-on-red fighting, you can check out Trumps' Alabama rally for Roy Moore here.

(edited to put the quotes from Trump in separate comment)

        1. Herr Gorka and Sarah Palin twisting themselves into pretzels explaining how voting for Moore isn't voting against Trump – it's still voting "for the President's agenda".

They're just towing the party line put out by Beitbart that there nothing wrong with Trump's agenda. The only problem is it's being held hostage by the moderates (i.e., Mitchell McConnell, Gen. Kelly, Ivanka and Jared) who won't let Trump be Trump.

Roy Moore will help free him to be himself.

  2. Trump praised health care in the African country of Nambia, which has zero health care problems because it doesn't happen to exist.  It is, however, the word largest producer of covfefe, with 37 percent of the world's proven reserves of whatever covfefe is.

  3. David Leonhardt of the New York Times has a great column today:

Defenders of the new Trumpcare — the Graham-Cassidy bill — are telling Jimmy Kimmel to be quiet and leave the health policy debate to the experts. So I wanted to give you a quick rundown this morning of what the experts are saying about the bill:

It “violates the precept of ‘first do no harm’” and “would result in millions of Americans losing their health insurance coverage.” – American Medical Association, which represents doctors.

It is “the worst healthcare bill yet.” – American Nurses Association.

It “would erode key protections for patients and consumers.”  American Hospital Association.

The “process [in the Senate] is just as bad as the substance. … Most Americans wouldn’t buy a used car with this little info.” – AARP.

The bill will “weaken access to the care Americans need and deserve.” – American Heart Association, jointly with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the American Diabetes and Lung associations, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the March of Dimes and others.

So based on that expert consensus analysis, I'm certain that Cory Gardner will be a solid YES vote, because that's what Mitch told him to do.

    1. I don't know if I'm the first to say it, but since this country now has shown an appetite  for electing celebrities with absolutely no experience in elected or appointed office the presidency, the Dems should nominate Jimmy Kimmel for president in '20. And for his VEEP – another comedian but one with some political experience – Al Franken.

  4. Paul Krugman also weighs in on Graham-Cassidy:

    Cruelty, Incompetence and Lies

Graham-Cassidy, the health bill the Senate may vote on next week, is stunningly cruel. It’s also incompetently drafted: The bill’s sponsors clearly had no idea what they were doing when they put it together. Furthermore, their efforts to sell the bill involve obvious, blatant lies.

So we’re looking at an incompetently drafted bill that would hurt millions of people, whose sponsors are trying to sell it with transparently false claims. How is it that this bill might nonetheless pass the Senate?

One answer is that Republicans are desperate to destroy President Barack Obama’s legacy in any way possible, no matter how many American lives they ruin in the process.

Another answer is that most Republican legislators neither know nor care about policy substance. This is especially true on health care, where they never tried to understand why Obamacare looks the way it does, or how to devise a nonvicious alternative. Vox asked a number of G.O.P. senators to explain what Graham-Cassidy does; the answers ranged from incoherence to belligerence to belligerent incoherence.

  5. The NYTimes on why the dotards in the Senate are taking up trashing the ACA again:

As more than 40 subdued Republican senators lunched on Chik-fil-A at a closed-door session last week, Senator Cory Gardner of Colorado painted a dire picture for his colleagues. Campaign fund-raising was drying up, he said, because of the widespread disappointment among donors over the inability of the Republican Senate to repeal the Affordable Care Act or do much of anything else.

It's all a grift to the GOP.

    1. McCain says no to the latest repeal proposal. It appears doomed. Does it get a floor vote next week? Will Cory and friends vote yes on a cruel, widely vilified bill in order to appease their donors?

      1. I suspect they will work their asses off to try to flip Ru Paul.

To the junior senator from Kentucky, I would say this: Remember how it felt when Bitch McConnell recruited that RINO to try to stop you in the GOP primary in ’10? Remember how humiliating it was being trash by Trump on stage at the presidential debates?

Revenge is a dish best served up cold! Stay the course senator. Some day people will thank you.

  6. Trump's stumping for Luther Strange in Alabammy…and it is indeed strange.

Fox News has a live blog of all of the jaw-dropping Trumpisms rolling from those little pursed lips:

Some gems from the live blog .

    September 22, 2017 5:27pm PDT

Trump: The last thing I want to do is get involved in a primary.

    5:19 pm September 22, 2017 5:19pm PDT

Trump jokes that the people who work for him who have supported Moore “may not have a job on Monday.”

    Such a kidder.

Now he’s asked Chief of Staff John Kelly to join him on stage, but is not letting him speak. Does Kelly have an “off button” for a Trump rampage? A secret batshit signal? What?

5:40 pm We are going to have much wall as we need, Trump says. ( and it has to be see-through – nobody knows why)

5:45 pm Trump says that he would like to see NFL owners have players who disrespect our flag “get that son of a bitch” off the field right away.
And, “Trump: The NFL ratings are down massively.”

    September 22, 2017 6:04pm PDT

Trump says the filibuster rule has to be eliminated.
    September 22, 2017 6:03pm PDT

Trump says reconciliation is a “trick,” adding that “8 Democrats” run the Senate.

Trump says the Democrats did a rotten job campaigning but did a good job of perpetrating the Russia “hoax.”

Trump says that “no, Russia did not help me.”

6:14 pm. There were people working in the VA, Trump says, who were "sadists.&quot WTF?????

    September 22, 2017 6:18pm PDT

Trump says we’re making our communities safe again by going after violent criminals.
    September 22, 2017 6:16pm PDT

Trump: I’ve ended the Obama administration’s war on coal and we’re putting our coal miners back to work.

Too many Trump isms to keep listing here.
And another rambling, barely coherent, lying, self-serving rant from our National Embarrassment.

    1. Trump says the filibuster rule has to be eliminated.

That's interesting coming from him while campaigning for Strange (no pun intended). IIRC, there is only one candidate in the AL senate race who wants to abolish the fiibuster – Roy Moore.

Did they end the event by chanting, "Lock her up!"?

      1. No they got that out of the way earlier in the speech. Twice the Yam brought up Hillary, out of the blue and relevant to nothing, and the crowd responded on autopilot. Chilling.
