Isn’t Penry younger than Schrager? On second thought, isn’t he younger than everyone in the legislature? He’s so way over his head running for Governor. Nice guy, smart, charming, but he couldn’t even run the Senate GOP.
But could anyone of any age herd the cats that represent the Senate GOP?
It’s a pretty weird bunch.
Then again, Penry’s failure to herd them is a failure. No way around it.

Adam asked Sen. Penry my question about transportation funding this morning:
Penry’s solution? Wait for it… Cut out all the new taxes and fees, and redirect all the surplus funds sloshing around in the general fund towards transportation.
And here I was worried that he was just some kind of “starve the beast” old-style Republican!
I feel much better now that I understand how simple it will be to solve this issue.
The solution is to cut income to the state, and spend whatever’s in the bank now? It doesn’t work when I try it, so I doubt it’ll work when the state tries it.
Sen. Penry’s obviously read the finer points of the Bush economic plan.
