The Bell Tolls For Jeff Sessions?

  • by: Colorado Pols
Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Politico sure makes it sound that way:

President Donald Trump’s persistent attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions have raised an urgent question: Is Trump trying to make Sessions quit?

After calling Sessions “beleaguered” on Monday, Trump on Tuesday morning ramped up his public shame campaign against one of his earliest high-profile supporters…

Incoming White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci on Tuesday morning said it was “probably right” that Trump wants Sessions out of the job. [Pols emphasis]

When radio host Hugh Hewitt asked, “It’s clear the president wants him gone, right?” Scaramucci replied that “I have an enormous amount of respect for the attorney general, but I do know the president pretty well, and if there’s this level of tension in the relationship that — that’s public, you’re probably right.”

Scaramucci also said he didn’t want to speak for Trump but said the president is “obviously frustrated” and that Trump and Sessions “need to work this thing out.”

Local observers are particularly keen to see how this feud resolves, since concurrent to the story of President Donald Trump’s growing dissatisfaction with Attorney General Jeff Sessions are widespread rumors that Sessions is about to launch a major crackdown on the retail marijuana industry in Colorado and elsewhere. Given that marijuana enforcement is more of a personal obsession of Sessions’ than something the Trump administration as a whole is believed to prioritize, we would expect the immediate threat to Colorado’s marijuana industry to dissipate with Sessions’ departure.

The political collateral damage a marijuana industry crackdown would do to Colorado Republicans may well keep them from mourning overly if Sessions is forced out, regardless of how they feel about the Russia scandal or any other stated reasons for his firing. All politics, after all, is local.

  1. Oh wow…Can we start the asset forfeiture process for Jeff? I mean he is looking very guilty of perjury, and we know how much he wanted to take stuff from criminals, even if the criminals were not criminals…then, can we get the MAXIMUM sentence upon conviction? ok then..

      1. I wonder if Jeff will try to reclaim his senate seat.

There is a special election next month in Alabama. I imagine it's too late for him to get on the ballot but with so many nut cases running (apparently Roy Moore is in the top three), why not try a write-in campaign…..

        1. The guy currently warming the seat and on the ballot is Luther Strange (not making that up). He was the state's A.G. who solidified his reputation as a RWNJ by vigorously defending the state's anti-same-gender marriage law against a widowed man seeking recognition on his late husband's death certificate and the insurance settlement to which he was named the beneficiary.

The deceased's mother claimed the body and tried to claim the insurance money. The state, in the person of Strange backed her all the way. The Obergefell decision short-circuited the case, but Strange would have fought it forever. A real class act, their new senator.

          1. Yup, Alabama's got some real smelly choices in that race. Sexter horndog Governor Bentley appointed Strange to the Senate because he was so corrupt in the state AG position.

U.S. News & World Report first told of Henry's conversation with Bentley in a story posted late Tuesday afternoon.

"I said 'Are you kidding me?'" Henry said of his response to Bentley. "You're going to appoint a man that you know is corrupt to the U.S. Senate where we may not get rid of him for 30 years?'

Judge Roy Moore gave us Gordon Klingenschmitt. Moore has been a friend and mentor of "Chaps" for at least 11 years, testifying in his defense at Chaps' court martial hearing.  Moore is currently 30 points ahead in polling for the Republican primary for the Senate seat. He is considered to be the most conservative of the three top contenders.

The other contender, Rep. Mo Brooks, is also precious – he included audio of the baseball practice shooting of Rep. Scalise in his campaign ads.

            1. Real classy….including the audio from the shooting of Scalise.

I did not know that there was a direct connection between Moore and Dr. Chaps. Small world.

              1. I didn't know about Moore and Chaps, either. I only know as much as I do about Strange because I was watching the marriage war very closely for the book I wrote and the occasional blog I keep. The Alabama marriage battle was particularly poignant because, like the Windsor case, the man fighting it had already lost his spouse.

  2. I'd like to see Sessions go in a way that still lets Mueller keep investigating without interference from the D o J. So I'm actually rooting for the Slytherin House Elf (Sessions) to hang in as long as possible. I don't think he's going to be implementing his anti-cannabis and pro-asset forfeiture plans right at the moment. Too much uncertainty about D o J leadership for that to happen.

Make Trump fire his attorney general, after firing the head of the FBI. If the next AG is pressured to fire Mueller and stop the investigation, let that all be done in the glare of publicity. Let it be more disgusting than the bedpan, greyscale-cutting, and gory massacre scenes from the Game of Thrones.  Let DJT's stubby digits be smeared with filth from his dirty deeds.

Let the coverup be worse, much worse, than the crime.

    Wallow in excrescence, futhermuckers.

  3. Here is how it's gonna happen…..

Trump waits for the Senate to go on its deferred summer recess sometime in August after the chamber experiences a collective nervous breakdown over health care.

At that point, he lets rip one hell of a nasty tweet accusing General Beauregard of unspeakable things and trying to force his resignation.

If that doesn't work, he convenes a cabinet meeting on the set of Celebrity Apprentice at the conclusion of which he turns to his A.G. and says, "You're fired!"

He then turns to Rudy Giuliani and tells him that he's hired. And as a recess appointment, no less!

Giuliani announces that he has no reason to recuse himself on Russia, he fires Rod Rosenstein, Andrew McCabe and Robert Mueller for engaging in a witch hunt, appoints Jared Kushner as deputy attorney general, and convenes a grand jury to indict Hillary.

  4. If Trump fires AG Jeff Sessions and Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein, then appoints a new AG without Senate approval, then instructs that AG to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller, he’ll have committed the most egregious crime against the Constitution in the history of the nation. He’ll lose another five points off his approval rating, and the Republican Congress will have to decide whether to finally put his illegal presidency out of its misery, for fear of getting wiped out in the midterms themselves.

    – from the Palmer Report, DOJ Insider thinks Donald Trump’s Saturday Night Massacre is coming within days

    1. Since Moderatus is not here, let me reply in a way that he might. "This is all Democrat lies and fake news! And, yes, it's time to forget about any of this non-existent Russia nonsense and proceed to an indictment of Hillary. Jail the witch!"

      1. Poor Moderatus.  Life was so much easier when all he had to do was complain about how bad a person Obama was instead of having to justify the constant screw ups of Trump.  Those were the days my friend.

      2. If Sessions knew he would recuse, he should have said that to Trump. With that said, I support cracking down on marijuana, which is illegal under federal law. Whether Sessions or the next AG does so, I would still support that. There are drug shops on every corner now.

        1. Still only about 1/4 of the number of liquor stores, especially in poor neighborhoods. Alcohol abuse kills 3.3 million people worldwide every year, including about 75,000 in the US, or one every 10 seconds, according to the World Health Organization.

That's how kids die in rural areas – traffic accidents, with alcohol involved. We just lost two 19 year olds. Do you care about those deaths? Want to shut down the liquor stores?

You're in the most at -risk demographic for alcohol deaths – men. Where's your outrage over it?

          1. Alcohol abuse kills 3.3 million people worldwide every year, including about 75,000 in the US, or one every 10 seconds

You're in the most at -risk demographic for alcohol deaths – men

Shhhh, don't confuse Fluffy with facts.

          2. I don't personally drink either, but alcohol has been a part of Western civilization for thousands of years. Marijuana is a much more recent cultural import, and we don't need more ways for people to pollute their bodies. If you've found the Lord as I have, there is no need to run away from reality with drugs and alcohol.

              1. Now you've gone and done it, Bowman . . .

Get ready to explain to Fluffy how it's even possible that marijuana cultivation began before ProsperityJesus made the earth?!?

(Please also get ready to explain how the Lord probably wasn't all that lost before Fluffy "found" him . . . maybe his ProsperityJesus needs a map and a compass, I dunno’?? . . . )

(We can save that Fluffy -v.- Reality discussion for another time . . .)

                1. And someone will have to break it to Fluffy that his beloved Israel is planning to be the world's largest exporter of medical cannabis? (don't forget to also tell him they have the most liberal abortion policy in the developed world.)

I'm guessing our little troll hangs around with the Cindy Jacobs  apostolate?

“I want to say to you,” she continued, “that one of the things I believe that’s going to bring a great harvest of Jews is the Christians becoming so profoundly wealthy … that it’s going to make them jealous. The wealth and the riches that we’re able to obtain is going to make them jealous.”

“Do you think our poverty is going to make a Jew jealous?” she asked. “Come off it! No, we are meant to prosper. Why? Because they understand, in their culture, that obedience to God brings blessing.”

              1. Well, ain't that somethin'? I never knew that, but I'm not surprised. Now that real research is being done on it, the uses seem endless.

        2. Just curious, Moderatus —

why can states choose varying levels of enforcement on many aspects of criminal law that have a Federal law, too, but not on marijuana?

Why can't we allow "state experiments" on marijuana reforms but can have them on Medicaid? And on unemployment insurance?

And where are you living that the shops are on every corner?

          1. Moderatus is only a proponent of state's rights when it involves civil rights. Anything else (sanctuary cities, legalized weed, environmental regs), he supports the heavy hand of big gummint in Washington.

          2. Moderatus knows well that in Pueblo County, cannabis is very tightly regulated – confined to certain zones, overseen, limited in number of dispensaries and how many plants each one can have growing at any one time. He also knows what a boon recreational cannabis production has been for Pueblo, and that voters want to keep it.

There are areas of Pueblo West that have multiple dispensaries within a mile of each other – but they can't go over the zoning limits. The free market rules – except when it doesn't. Artificially suppressing supply has driven up demand. Overall, it has been a boon to the city's economy. A CSU study due out in December will analyze economic impact, but anecdotally, pot has put Puebloans back to work, when Mr. MAGA was buying Chinese steel, not Pueblo nor Pittsburgh steel, for his many buildings.

Nevertheless, cannabis production within Pueblo County has been so successful that they were able to fund $475,000 in scholarships for Pueblo youth. Pueblo voters had the chance to limit recreational pot  dispensaries last November, and voted 58-42% to keep them.

Moderatus knows all of this very well – he's just choosing to present a religious point of view in order to obfuscate these facts.

    2. Don't you remember, MJ, he once bragged being about the shoot and kill someone in broad daylight on TV, and his base still wouldn't abandon him?

Do you really think they will give a damn about constitutional crimes?

    1. It is not a coincidence that Rex announced his intention to bail ONE DAY after it became clear that sanctions against Russia would not go away.

The deal Rosneft/Gazprom was trying to do with Exxon/Mobil looks increasingly impossible to do. Rex has lost his reason to be there. He has clearly shown he has little interest in the actual job.

  5. Is there really anyone out there that honestly believes that Trump is anything more than an idiot? The AG serves at the pleasure of the president. Complaining, in the most public way possible, about what a poor job your key employee is doing is ridiculous. I run a business. If it was having difficulty, would it reflect well on me if I tell my customers, "Sorry, my managers are incompetent."

He does not know how to lead. He does not know how to get anything done. Thus far, the only thing that has saved us is his stupidity.

  6. So much water under the swamp . . .

. . . but remember back to those halcyon days of, what, last May?, when TwoScoops fired the FBI Director purportedly because of a memo and recommendation drafted, in part, by the elfenturd?! . . .

. . . My guess is that they drafted a form letter, and left several on TwoScoops dessert tray, for filling in names at later dates . . .

. . . later this week (American Heroes Week, right?) we're going to find out that somehow our heroic AG last May recommended to President TwoScoops to fire the dunderhead AG this July — because he has lost the confidence of  himself.

  7. Marijuana is illegal under federal law. The trade in this dangerous illegal drug should be stopped. It's not being contained in Colorado, it's spreading to states that have not legalized. Those states have rights too!

    1. Oh look who's back.  You are in contention to be one of the most ignorant futhermuckers around. You and Beauregard would rather see kids like this die than give them access to a plant given to us by SkyGod™  Take a gander at Ezekiel 34:29 when your tongue heals up from all the bootlickin' over the weekend.

CANCER AND KIDS: IS MEDICAL MARIJUANA THE ANSWER?

Landon’s cancer, diagnosed in September 2012, had put Riddle in a situation that’s any parent’s worst nightmare: She had to watch him undergo lifesaving treatment that appeared to be killing him. Riddle says she was left with no choice but to defy his doctors’ orders.

By the time of that showdown with CPS and Landon’s doctors in Denver, Riddle had stopped giving her son all of the drugs prescribed by the hospital: the chemo, opiates and benzos. The latter two—which included OxyContin, morphine and Ativan—were prescribed to help Landon cope with the side effects of cancer treatment. None of them helped, she says, or they made him feel worse. But when Landon started the cannabis oil, his health miraculously improved. She was willing to do whatever it took to keep him on cannabis.

          1. How did that make it okay? The Mexican Mafia smuggles little girls into sex slavery, should we make sex slavery illegal to spite them too? Foolishness.

    2. Moderatus:  Is the "dangerous illegal drug" more or less harmful than the "dangerous, illegal" prison conditions for those convicted of sale or use?

And how would you suggest that Colorado cope with the loss of $200 million or so in state taxes and fees, plus the income taxes generated from those working in the legal industry?

      1. We know for a fact that sober people are more successful in every way. Drugs and alcohol take away people's ability to succeed, not vice versa. Why would you encourage that?

        1. “We know for a fact that sober people are more successful in every way. Drugs and alcohol take away people’s ability to succeed,”

This comment, Fluffy, shows precisely why no one here takes you seriously. Have you every smoked pot? How would you know what it does and doesn't do? You heard it from the "Partnership for a Drug Free America"….right?

The fact is, Fluffmeister, that most of the smartest, most accomplished people I know are pot smokers. Doctors, lawyers, successful businessmen…you name it. They get high and yet, somehow, are incredibly successful. Many of your Republican legislators use the stuff. In fact, I have known a dozen or more elected officials who regularly indulge.

Admit it, Fluffy. You have NO personal knowledge of Cannabis and its effects. You are just blowing smoke out your ass…pun intended.

    3. Moderatus is channeling his inner Rodney Dangerfield: "I don't get no respect."

Hey, if other states have rights, like complainers Nebraska and Oklahoma, they have every right then to halt vehicles entering their states from Colorado for search & seizure activities.

And, pray tell, how is pot any more dangerous than alcohol?

  8. "In contention"? . . .

    . . . I'm pretty certain Moddy's a shoe-in in the swim suit event . . .

. . . but he’s still gonna’ have to work on his talent “thingy” to have a real chance!

  9. Okay, dammit, who has been watering Moddy with Bong water?   Cookie?  The little swine has been inert for months and suddenly he finds Jesus and Donald Trump and is arguing it's time to dump Beauregard because he's not loyal to Putin!

Look, Cookie, I know you meant well but it's time to rethink this whole watering Moddy thing.  Distilled water only?

    1. I couldn't have fed him what you imply, V. We don't partake. I gave him perfectly clean Denver city water-some of the purest in the country, as it comes straight down from the Rockies.

      1. Okay, bowman, fess up.  Cookie didn't put Bong water on Moddy.  Did you?  Somebody needs to answer for his eruption from his normal dormant state!

        1. It was me . . . and Duke.  It was Duke's idea . . . something he's been wanting to do since his radical college days.

. . . we worked with all this pot shops "on every corner" in Colorado to spike the Denver water supply!

. . . who knew Fluffy would be so fragile and mentally unstable that the 3-ppt THC we created for a couple of days would cause him permanent brain damage and psychic dissociation???

          1. I cannot confirm, nor deny, anything Dio has said.

Please contact the law firm of Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe (1-800-YOU-DOLT) with any further questions….ask for Moe.smiley

              1. 1st rule of holes, Dio…next thing you know you will be spilling the beans about my holdings in Gazprom and that time we went to Smolensk….oops…isn't this a PM….?

                drat!
