I care what happens there. I don’t want a nuclear (new-clear) Iran menacing us or their neighbors or sharing with unfriendlies.
But I don’t want to get involved in a nation generally hostile to us, run by a theocracy that is definitely hostile to us with which we have no diplomatic relations.
Until we have to. I’m glad the President has been moderate. There’s a time for stridence and belligerence toward Iran- this isn’t it.
My Aunt attended the El Paso County GOP Women’s picnic and the guest speaker was Josh Penry. The problem is he cancelled. Not good politics if you are to be a candidate for Governor.
the “yell at the TV” rally in Grand Junction
or check out South America.
My guess also, is that he was either he was on the Appalachian Trail hike nude days with Guv Sanford or someone found his name in the Suk Young Yu little black book.
Sanford’s harshest critics couldn’t have come up with anything to top this. Of course I still think the biggest screw up here isn’t his being in love with someone other than his wife. That’s their business. It’s leaving his state with no one charge.
Why not just lie about where you are going and why and hand off to your lt. Guv? You know, in case of a forest fire, tornado, flood, terrorist attack, what have you? None of the other political adulterers so far have abandoned their responsibilities to spend, as Sanford himself said, five days crying in Argentina over his love life. What a wussie!
I’ve got an idea. How about we ignore pols’ personal lives as long as their lovers and lovers spouses and relatives aren’t on the pay roll and they manage to keep it together on the job?
Exxon-Mobile has been in town…..http://www.gjsentinel.com/hp/content/news/stories/2009/06/23/062409_1a_exxonmobil.html
Exxon says it’s a long-term deal. Didn’t we hear that from them 30 years ago with its oil shale adventure?
…for 40 seconds, but still…what a great reign.

next clip had David Kilcullen bragging about how he won the Iraq war. This guy reviewed and rejected a proposal I sent to the CPA in 2004, then plagiarized my work (and the work of others) to reinvent himself as an expert on “counterinsurgency” warfare.
He was the perfect aide to Petraeus. Zero substance, all sizzle.
Good to hear that he’s been kicked to the curb.
.
Good tip–I’ll check that out, Barron. Thanks.
All the leading political and news sites are now obsessed about the antics of Mark Sanford rather than the brutal repression in Iraq.
The Mullahs in Iran understand the short attention span of even the most politically active Americans. Give the demonstrations a few days and than arrest everyone while America is focused on Mark Sanford and Jon and Kate.
Brilliant scheme, too! Of course, it’s not all about us. People seem to have this idea that we’re “dad” and all other countries are the “kids” and unless we watch them like a hawk they’re going to get in trouble. Iran knows nobody is happy about their political troubles. They’re doing stuff anyway, and we’re not going to do anything to change that.
Mainly because for us to actually do something to intervene that mattered would almost certainly backfire. They know that, and thankfully we finally have a President who also knows that. Pretty much every other country in the world has a lot more leverage with Iran than we do.
So whether we watch Days of Our Governor or American Idol or wall-to-wall Iranian bloody shirt coverage on CNN, the situation in Iran will play out however the people there want it to.
The notion that we’re going to save anyone’s lives by watching protest-porn coverage of them is absurd.
As SXP says, what we do is pretty much irrelevant for Iran. But even so, I’ve been working all day and spend the last 50 minutes reading what happened in Iran, then 15 minutes on Sanford and other news of the day (public option on healthcare got most of my time).
Then Pols last. So Iran is still the #1 story for a lot of us.
Doesn’t mean we aren’t still following Iran. Maybe people just don’t feel they know enough about what’s going on to have much to add that hasn’t been said at this point.
at being governor of South Carolina.
He can’t do any worst than Mark (don’t cry for me Argentina) Sanford.

of another Southern Governor.

The entire Republican party, particluarly Newtie and Kenneth Starr – no.
I would expect as such staunch defenders of the family they would hold Sanford to the same standards.
Oh, wait, there are always two sets of standards for what passes in the Republican party. Nevermind.
never deserted his state, leaving no one in charge or any way of reaching him in case of an emergency. Neither did Spitzer.
Leaving the country secretly without officially handing off authority to the Lieutenant Governor, as governors do routinely when official business takes them out of the country, even when they can easily be contacted, is what makes this far more serious than the personal messing around.
He could have said he was going on a religious retreat and retreated with whomever he pleased for all I care, if he had taken care of his responsibilities first.
The fact that he still doesn’t understand why just disappearing when you are Governor and there are things that absolutely require your authority or your clearly designated authority is what disqualifies him as competent enough to serve in such a position, not his sex life, in my book.
After that press conference in which he cast himself as some tragic romantic figure and the e-mails that have been released, I’d say he is more than qualified to become a successful author of ladies’ romance novels. He ought to give that serious consideration.
It’s between him and his family, except that he made a horrible decision and neglected his job.
I like Sanford’s view on many issues, and I very much appreciate his fight against the stimulus money, but he has to resign immediately for not fulfilling his duties.
Love it when when we don’t have to agree to disagree.
Every now and then, you get it right!
🙂
Nice to chat with you again.
WTF is up with these “Family Value” Republican hypocrites? How can any, anybody vote for these lying, cheating, sons a bitches? I’ll throw in Spitzer for good Democratic measure, but it’s almost always Republicans! How about Mr. Utah “Family Values” Ensign??
To say nothing of dereliction of duty, he never told the Lt. Guv to take over.
What a total and complete (Republican) asshole. Talk about thinking with one’s dick.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06…
especially the Father’s Day part. Lordy.
suddenly makes a whole lot more sense, doesn’t it? At the time she first said she had no clue where he was and seem so indifferent, I thought her reaction was downright weird, particularly with blowing off four sons on Father’s Day.
Well, now? Not so much. She found out about the affair five months ago and supposedly he went to Argentina to end the affair (which apparently one cannot do in one day but can only do in five to seven and also cannot do over the phone but only in person.) Good for her not attending his stupid press conference.
Man, stay classy Sanford.
Nothing better than making up fucking. Sorry, Craig, “Making love” isn’t correct.
That’s what all naughty boys say. 🙂
On your rant. I agree with your sentiments, but do we have to use “WTF?” And I don’t think we should be in the habit of insulting mothers, even the mothers of bad children. Sen. Ensign is from Nevada, not Utah and rather than talking about a man;s genitals in polite company, we should refer to this type of action as being a man thinking with “his small brain.”
Really, when you use vulgar language like this you will have a hard time getting your point across to the vast majority of people.
to cursing? Good sweet fucking Christ. It never ceases to amaze me when I run across one of you prudes.
I realize that some adults never, ever use a “bad” word (Thank you, Lenny Bruce!)but not most of us. I mean, come on. “WTF” is an acronym…….which you seem to know about. Reminds me of about 1958 when my friend Eric found c**p in a book his mother was reading. How titillating! How secret, that code!
I’d say the vast majority of people (i.e., adults) get my point perfectly well. You’ve been here for a couple of years, surely my rant’s content is nothing new for you to read, no?
I don’t see where I insulted the mother. I apologize to the good people of Utah for my geography error.
Given that your Mother wears combat boots, I am shocked by you strange attitude.
May I suggest: STFU.
Hmmm, wonder if he asked his wife and children for “indulgence” while he conducted an affair on Father’s Day.
Each and every staffer who covered up or lied for Sanford should be immediately terminated. And Sanford himself should resign immediately! Not necessarily because of his affair but because he caused such danger and worry for the good people of S. C. while engaging others in the cover-up.
apparently he’s been “doing” something exotic for over a year now. 🙂
Is he a little off? He posts often on political threads that spring up on Mountain Project, a website usually more devoted to rock climbing.
Here’s a recent gem:
“I believe Obama is pushing the US as hard and far toward socialism and fascism as he can.”
Are Colorado Republicans really that extreme?
“toward socialism and fascism and Islamicism and satanism and paganism and human sacrifice….” Oh, and that he grows horns and a tail at midnight.
What we really need in our state government are more reasonable people of good will who analyze the issues, and seek the policies that their best analysis using the best and most reliable data indicate as best serving the common welfare (including the preservation of individual liberty). That won’t eliminate debate, since reasonable people of good will can disagree, but at least it would make the debate an intelligent one.
The socialism panic button is getting a little worn out lately.
This is a catch all protective phrase that a lot of conservatives run to when opposing a solution to a problem. This particularly helps distract from the issue when they have no proposal of their own.
