  1. Happy 4th ya'll!

For many, the toll taken on our national spirit by the seemingly unabated descent into fascism is profound and the current state of our union seems unstable and scary. I know, right?

But I am not convinced the American people will let this destruction of our democracy happen. The moral bankruptcy of the political right has now become its calling card. It has elevated greed and resentment to the point where its devotees have elected a charlatan whose mission is to disrupt our democracy and bend our government to his own personal profit.

But, as is usually the case, they have overplayed their hand and like always, their overreach and their greed has put them out on a limb. The American voter (and consumer) has access to the saw that will cut that limb and send them crashing to defeat. Take heart, lovers of democracy and freedom…The Republican party has engineered its own destruction….his name is Trump.

    Resist…we will beat them..

    Never give up.

    1. You're spot-on, Duke.

It is said (and is demonstrably true) that all evil is transitory. And that includes the evil, deranged, puerile, criminal human pile of fascist garbage presently stinking up the White House. The trump cabal/crime family is subsisting on borrowed time already. They will fall.

We're Americans. We won't tolerate this shit.

In the meantime, we have met the enemy and it is…the Manchurian Cantaloupe, seen here in the form of Kim Jong-un Tiny Hands:

And here in the person of Uncle Vladdy Von TrumPutin:

The infantile tyrant shall fail, bigly. On this Fourth of July, resolve to help keep the collective boot firmly upon his fat, ugly neck.

    2. You know, Duke, what you just said about the current government is essentially the same thing you said on the other thread about the state of Christianity these days. So did the politicians lead the churches over the cliff, or was it the other way about? That'll give you something to ponder while watching people blow stuff up tonight.

    3. I've always said of the modern G.O.P. (is that an oxymoron?) that they can be counted on to go just that much too far, no matter what the point of contention. This time, I believe you're right. It will be their undoing. Electing The Yam was their way of spitting at those who fundamentally disagree with them. I think it's starting to sink in that the Party has bitten its nose to spite its face.

      1. N.A.S.C.: might be worth your while, and others, to pick up this week's issue of The Economist, with its article on Trump's America (I'd link, but I think it's behind a pay wall). First point there is that just a small percentage of voters follow politics in depth, on either side. The vast majority sort of goes with the flow. Second take-away is that the vast flow of Trump voters doesn't have anything sinking in with them that Trump is doing damage. And recall that those within the vast flow in the middle still have the far right talking heads and the religious right speaking up for the "greatness" of Trump. The Dems have no counter.

3rd takeaway is that for the Dems to make any progress next year, they need a re-done and better message that appeals to middle America.  Nancy Pelosi is a big mill-stone around the Dems collective neck; Warren isn't far behind. Dems will be up against $300-400 million being spent for Repubs by the Koch Brothers group.

  2. As we contemplate the sacrifices and vision of our forebears, let us never forget that Donald Trump stinks.

Have a glorious and upwind Fourth, my friends.

    1. Is the stink of Trump flammable? I'm asking to be able to gauge the hazard of attending a fireworks show which undoubtedly will include many in the crowd who have been a bit too close to the Odoriferous One.

      1. Trumpstink and its close chemical cousin, shillstink, has High methane content and is definitely flammable.  Like the class clown in high school who lit his farts, Trumpshills think it is hilarious to blow out a flamer.  If you spot any known Trumpshills at a fireworks display, notify the fire department immediately.

            1. I found them all here, cook.

I  have to hope that 1) the quantity of alcohol consumed helped numb the burns, and 2) that since many of these were next to sensitive reproductive organs, that the jokers were rendered sterile, thus improving the human gene pool.

  3. We had 30  North east Co Dems on a float in the parade in Brush, Colorado! We were upbeat and happy and had signs about Medicare and equality and immigration and at least half of the crowd lining the streets thought we were fricking awesome!

It was really fun being "out" as a liberal today.

Then we had a fabulous barbeque and we "networked" as they say, or gossiped, or kvetched, or strategized, or what have you. Now for chilling out, maybe a little rodeo, then fireworks. I still love fourth of July the best of all the holidays.

Duke, I feel that you're right. It does look pretty grim sometimes, and overwhelming, and hopeless. But what really helps with all that is cutting down on the isolation and meeting and organizing with like-minded people. I met some of those folks today. Some of them even read my stuff!  So that was encouraging, too.

  4. Some of them even read my stuff!  So that was encouraging, too.

I am always encouraged that what we do here matters. I am also amazed at how many people read this blog. Everywhere I go, people tell me the same thing. It is important…nay, imperative that we never let the bullshit from the right overwhelm us.

Happy 4th, mama. You are an inspiration.

    1. FAKE NEWS, Duke!!!  Our little librarian troll has assured all of us here that only a small handful of people read this blog.  Which makes one wonder why he sticks around.  SAD!!!

PS: I echo Duke's sentiments on MamaJ.

Enjoy the rest of the 4th everyone!
