Whoa.
From Knight-Ridder Newspapers:
President Bush’s job-approval rating fell to its lowest point yet – 34 percent – in a nationwide poll published Tuesday. That puts him not far above Richard Nixon’s Watergate-era low point.
The poll, conducted by CBS News between last Wednesday and Saturday, found that 59 percent of adults disapproved of Bush’s job performance. His 34 percent approval rating was the lowest since he took office in 2001, 8 points lower than in January. The poll’s margin of sampling error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.
“Bush is in trouble,” said Bruce Buchanan, a political scientist at the University of Texas at Austin. “One would tend to think the dip is the Dubai ports issue, which has meant a spate of bad news. But there’s been a collection of bad news.”
A mix of messes has dragged Bush down, including his handling of Hurricane Katrina, the ill-fated Harriet Miers Supreme Court nomination, the upsurge of violence in Iraq, and the deal to allow an Arab state-owned company to manage terminals at six U.S. ports.
Bush’s approval rating is far below those registered by three of the past four two-term presidents in February of their sixth year: Dwight Eisenhower (64 percent), Ronald Reagan (63.5 percent) and Bill Clinton (57 percent). Only Nixon, at 27.5 percent in February 1974 – six months before he resigned – was less popular than Bush is now.

CBS News. Isn’t this the same stellar organization the relied on forged documents to try and smear Bush?
Typical Republican. Attack the source rather than try to refute the story. It’s lame. It doesn’t work anymore.
Attack,
Well, isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?
Are you trying to tell me that CBS is a credible source of objective news today???
You’re mixing up your metaphors, my friend. That has nothing to do with the pot calling the kettle black.
CBS is not inventing poll results. That’s absurd. There are so many other polls that continually show declining approval ratings for Bush. Maybe every pollster is in this together and they are all trying to create fake polls that show poor approval ratings.
Attack –
Attacking the source? Remember that the next time some Lib disputes information just because it comes from the Independence Institute or Fox News
Oh please. That’s a ridiculous comparison. Anybody who thinks the Independence Institute is nonbiased believes Progress Now is a moderate voice for truth. That’s probably the dumbest thing I’ve seen on here in awhile.
I’;ll give you Fox News as a legitimate source, Right Angle. But Independence Institute has never released legitimate information, as distinct from far right propaganda.
You seldom if ever find poll information coming from the Independence Institute. They don’t do polls because they might not get the answers they want. Their methodolgy is to decide on an conclusion and find “data” to verify it. They also quote “research” from other rightwing groups such as the Evergreen Foundation or the Manhatten Institute just like it was unbiased orginal research. Their information is not balanced or informative. They simply publish an ideological point of view.
Attack,
I was simply pointing out, based on CBS’s dubious history of one-sidedness, that reasonable people should view this poll with a grain of salt. In fact, Rasmussen has Bush’s approval rating at 43% as of today. Again, this is just one poll and should not be taken as gospel.
I would view an 11% differential as just a little more than the float within the margin of error. To think that you can’t get the results that you want in a poll is itself absurd and naive.
Are Bush’s approval ratings low? Yup, but so were Bill Clinton’s (36%), Jimmy Carter (21%).
It’s funny how the Knight-Ridder story forgot to mention Carter and his all-time low numbers– or am I just “attacking the source” again?
No, you’re just not actually reading the story:
“Bush’s approval rating is far below those registered by three of the past four two-term presidents in February of their sixth year.”
Nobody is comparing the all time worst approval ratings for particular Presidents. The story compares ratings for this particular point in history.
CBS also doesn’t have a “dubious history” of one-sidedness. They had a bad blunder on the Bush records that I won’t excuse, but it’s not like that happens every other week.
Glock 19,
Your FOX friend Bill O’Reilly doesn’t seem to dispute Bush’s unpopularity. From his show today:
What I find interesting is Knight-Ridder’s William Douglas using the most extreme set of polls put out on 2/26/06 for Bush’s approval/disapproval. And not to mention his digging for the “three of the past four two-term presidents in February of their sixth year”. That’s similar to comparing Todd Helton’s and other 1st basemen’s on-base percentage in their 3rd month of their 5th year after having a torn ACL the previous two years prior to a twi-night doubleheader on natural grass. Basically Mr. Douglas is showing his bias here. Sure President Bush’s numbers are down, but doing the right thing isn’t always popular. My first time posting here and looking forward to future communication!
-Jon W
Hi Jon,
Which “right thing” are you referring to:
1. Skyrocketing deficit
2. Spending billions in Iraq
3. Dismantelling environmental regulations
4. Tax break for the rich
5. Overhaulling Social Security
Just curious what is the right thing…
Lulu
AOL Online Poll:
Do you think Osama bin Laden will be “brought to justice”?
Probably not 30%
Yes 29%
No 28%
Probably 13%
Total Votes: 90,691
The question is do you trust your president do his job? America doesn’t.
IMPEACH? Oh no – that would mean we end up with Cheaney.
Dubya is a colossal failure any way you cut it. Nothing he has done has worked. From the Medicare Drug Benefit Disaster to Katrina to Iraq to No Child Left Behind to illegal wiretapping to Gitmo to Extraordinary Rendition to torture to Plame, he has fucked up everything he has touched.
Osama is still out there, Iraq is slipping into Civil War and the Taliban and Al Qaeda are have reconstituted and are going to be undertaking a major offensive in Afghanistan this spring. Osama brought down the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 80s and if we don’t wise up, we’re going to give him two more wins in the next few years.
Glock 19, you’re confusing his job approval with his likeability numbers/trust numbers. Also, polls should always be read with an eye towards trends and methodology. Rasmussen and CBS use very different methods.
He has gone from 80 plus approval to the 30s. The American people were with him after 911. His numbers are in toilet because he is a failure.
Unfortunately, Daddy and his friends can’t bail him out this time. This isn’t Harkin Energy or Arbusto; this time he’s running the United States into the ground and all of his die hard supporters are helping him do it.
Kenevan,
This “colossal failure” beat the best the democrats had to offer…. twice!
By the way, how is the weather in Fantasy-land? Is Michael Moore still the mayor?
Nice one Glock! That post by kenevan must have hurt a bit. You sound just like someone defending their favorite football team. Go Rs!
Glock 19, you are missing a key component here. After you 1) win the election, you 2) ACTUALLY HAVE TO GOVERN.
W will go down as the WORST PRESIDENT IN US HISTORY because he can’t seem to grasp this simple formula.
Glock,
Republicans are clearly good at getting elected. It’s what comes afterward that they have trouble with.
I thought you knew that Dick Cheney was the mayor of Fantasyland. He coasted to reelection on his campaign slogan of “I do really believe we will be greeted as liberators.”

ROFL
Yeah, I’m sure W’s all worried about how these polls are going… gosh, he might have to think twice about running for reelection in ’08.
“Bush Not Worried About Low Approval Ratings”
http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/story?id=1671087
Oh, and by the way…
…about the CBS poll and their methodologies:
CBS’ sample favored Democrats 381 to 289. Then they announce this ‘low rating’ as news.
Gosh, you’d think that DAN RAthER still ran the show over there.
I’m guessing Bush really doesn’t give a rat’s ass what his popularity is. How much did Clinton care when he was exposed for his little problems in Arkansas, and his infidelity with that stunning Monica?
Actually, Gecko, Clinton lived on these polls.
In the words of George Stephanopolous, “We didn’t cross the room without taking a poll first.”
The bottom line on Clinton is that he was all about image, and nothing of substance.
Clearly, a few head in the sand posters here.
Here’s the skinny on Bush vs. Clinton’s performance.
http://www.ppionline.org/ppi_ci.cfm?knlgAreaID=107&subsecID=295&contentID=252964
George Bust lied about Katrina, about the WMD, about being a uniter, about the cost of his Medicare, about the warrantless searches……well, he lies every time his lips move. Why can’t you shills for Bush see this? When Clinton lied, it cost the taxpayers zilch and no one died.
Bush is the WORST PRESIDENT EVER, and the biggest LIAR ever!
History, and all the facts, support this conclusion.
You Bush supporter’s haven’t a clue and refuse to see the truth even when put in front of you. You’re a lot like he is. Stupid, arrogant and dangerous.
New evidence has emerged that key agencies of the United Arab Emirates may have been infiltrated by al-Qaeda. In May or June of 2002, al Qaeda officials wrote a letter to the UAE government claiming the emirates were ?well aware? of the infiltration.
The letter, translated by the United States Government, is publicly available on the website of the West Point Combating Terrorism Center.
Time to admit to the truth….this guy is the WORST PRESIDENT EVER.
We know this is you Sir Robin the Brave in Hiding.
I’m real tired of you all complaining about the President. Start a real grass roots effort if getting him impeached is your agenda. Sitting here bitching about it has gotten you where, so far?
If you can’t be part of the solution, don’t be part of the problem.
Or better yet, don’t do anything. I have more fun watching you all cry and throw fits about YOUR elected leader. It is more fun than watching Hillary at the last state of the union address………….
gecko: Typical bullshit from you. According to you Sir Robin is either running or hiding. You remind me a lot of your hero G.Bush. He can’t get anything right either.
If your tired, please, please go to bed. Or, get used to it because across this great country the people are awakening to the abysmal failure of this administration. 34% approval rating shouldn’t be so easily dismissed. When the people replace the current lousy, incompetent, corrupt majority in the House, and perhaps the Senate, we’ll see how long this liar lasts.
Blogs are a part of the grassroots. This is a better way for me to reach 250,000 people than any other way I can imagine, especially when the Post publishes so few letters from progressives, and instead let’s ignorant shills publish their diatribes.
Finally, he’s not my elected leader. He’s YOURS. You voted for him, which is a testament to your intelligence, and to the intelligence (or lack of it) of everyone else who voted him in.
Go to sleep now, child.
Hey Lefties, We’re Still Laughing at You and George W Bush is still President of the United States of America.
This poll is meaningless. An ant-farm has a greater collective attention span than the American Public. By November they’ll be in frenzy over non-issues like GAY MARRIAGE (OOHHHH!), and will have completely forgotten about how poorly the Republicans have managed this country and its resources.
As for this little fact-twisting “gem” :
I got news for you: We’re not in charge. We don’t have enough votes in ANY branch of the Federal government effect any change whatsoever. You guys are in charge of the whole enchilada. You own it, and you fucked it up. Now grow up and take responsibility for it instead of whining about how it’s somebody else’s fault.
BMR, Gecko, Glock 19,
I think the VP from the Heritage Foundation summed up the Neo-Con political agenda. The Cons do not care who they hurt and how much damage they cause as long as they remain in power.
“Michael Franc, vice president for government relations at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, said Republican lawmakers are opposing Bush to appeal to the public. ?They will not let anything stand in the way of remaining in the majority.”
DC Cons are similar to Colorado Cons; they are all funded by Coors and have no true concern for the people they are to represent. They would rather lie, cheat and steal then lose a step from the PNAC handbook. One word to prove this claim: Stengel.
Bush.
I love to do that. It sends the lefties into irrational uncontrolable rage.
Bush
There goes Gecko Echo again. Lack of originality is his trait.
Calling names is the sign of a wee man. Didn’t your daddy ever teach you that?
You never answered my question, which by the way wasn’t addressed to you. What besides bitching about YOUR President are you going to do about it?
Not a god damn thing, huh?
Live Free or Die said it all. Maybe we should start rubbing it in……..
Ref C passed! Ref C passed!
🙂
“You never answered my question, which by the way wasn’t addressed to you”
LOLOLOL
Moron
I find it funny that Bush will be Gecko Echo’s President, as Gecko said, for another year and a half.
The fun part will be reminding him daily.
Whoo hoo
And I’ll remind you daily of what a lousy, lying, corrupt, incompetent you elected.
Roe V Wade is going down, Bush is our El Presidente, the Wall will be built at the border, and the religious right will rule Colorado.
Good times are coming.
Unless you are moving out of the country (please do so), Bush IS YOUR President dipstick.
I’ve watched the posts tonight with some amusement. This attempt to assign Bush as YOUR PRESIDENT is laughable.
Imagine if Bush had said in the debates, “Elect me and I’ll sell our port control to the Arab Emigrates, and I’ll sell off our public lands to pay for the dent I’ll ring up. I promise to borrow more money than all previous presidents combined” Let’s be honest, all three branches of the federal government are controlled by Republicans.
What you see is Republicanism in action, folks. There’s no way to sugar coat it. You vote Republican, this is what you get – people who favor corporations over people. Republicans alway say they’re going to cut back on federal regulations, so no one should be surprised when they do.
Just imagine what our country is going to look like if yet another Republican wins the presidency in 2008.
You vote for it, you own it. It’s time the American voter takes responsibility for his and her own vote. You elected these guys, and they’re doing what they told you they’d do. If you don’t like it, then stop voting Republican.
If you do like it, then defend it with valid arguments, not the kind of crap being posted here by the likes of gecko, BMR, El Presidente and their ilk. Defend this administration with reasons why they’re doing such a good job, even though 7 out of 10 people apparently disagree with you. I can’t wait.
Hey Gecko, Not my President, did not vote for him and proud of it. He is your FAILURE!!!!! Get educated before you post again. You look like an uneducated FOOL!!!!!
Bush told so many lies about WMDs in Iraq…this is just a few. We’re going to hold him and those who continue to support him responsible for the trillions of dollars and 10’s of 1,000’s dead, both American and innocent Iraqi’s. Take it to the bank.
?I guess the assumption was that if I were straying off course they would? kind of like a hunting dog, they would punch a buzzer and I would jerk back into place. That?s just absurd.?
~ George W. Bush, dismissing his earpiece and battery pack he used in the debates, 2004-10-26
?Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof ? the smoking gun ? that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud.?
~ George W. Bush, Cincinnati, Ohio, 2002-10-07, on evidence for Iraq?s non-existent nukes.
?We?ve also discovered through intelligence that Iraq has a growing fleet of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles that could be used to disperse chemical or biological weapons across broad areas. We?re concerned that Iraq is exploring ways of using these UAVS for missions targeting the United States.?
~ George W. Bush, Cincinnati, Ohio, 2002-10-07, on Iraq?s non-existent drones capable of launching an attack on the USA.
?Satellite photographs reveal that Iraq is rebuilding facilities at sites that have been part of its nuclear program in the past. Iraq has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes and other equipment needed for gas centrifuges, which are used to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons.?
~ George W. Bush, Cincinnati, Ohio, 2002-10-07. These tubes turned out to be nothing more threatening than the tubing used to construct playground equipment.
Let’s all take a moment to ponder the last six years of Republican rule and reminisce on the Republican Party’s many fine accomplishments:
So you have no President huh?
Isn’t that special? Must be nice to be the only person in this country to not be represented.
Dumbass………
Under your logic Bush represents only the people that voted for him. What about the millions that didn’t bother to vote?
You are the one that needs educated moron.
Obviously the sleep didn’t help our hapless friend Gecko. LOL
Bring on the Hillary whore!!!!!! Can’t wait to kick the ass of Sir Robin and the Geckoecho on election day. Bash Bush all you want, but watch how the Republicans take the party of whining, moaning, bitching , and complaining to the woodshed in ’08. Tough talk from a pair of limpdicks!!!!!!
Gecko,
Policy wise, Bush only represents the radical right in this country. He is the most divisive hateful President in our history.
Nero fiddled while Rome burned, Bush played guitar while New Orleans drowned.
Wake up and smell the coffee, coldawg, your party’s hurtin’ bad. The Republicans aren’t taking anyone “behind the woodshed because” you guys aren’t going anywhere.
Hilary whore. Brilliant. You should be up for a Pulitzer.
Liberal= Take all money from those that worked for it and give it to those that don’t want to.
Conservative= You want it, you earn it.

Kenevan,
“Policy wise, Bush only represents the radical right in this country.”
Well, then us on the radical right have no worries for ’08 since W was elected twice into office! That makes us the majority.
“He is the most divisive hateful President in our history.”
If true, W should be able to land a job with some Main Stream Media (MSM) outlet, if needed.
“Nero fiddled while Rome burned, Bush played guitar while New Orleans drowned”
…And Clinton daily played Billy Squier’s “The Stroke” in the Oval Office, as best as we can tell, from Feb. 26, 1993 (1st Trade Center bombing) until he got caught. But his lies and actions never cost tax payers money nor did anybody die. May Vincent Foster rest in peace.

The R aren’t good at winning elections. Colorado is closer now to being a blue state than it has been in most of my lifetime. There’s a reason why former hardcore Bush parrots like Bill Owens are headed for cover.
Hardcore Conservatives like Pat Buchanan and Paul Craig Roberts have been warning against the coming Bush caused implosions for the last couple of years. The DC Rs are already trying to rationalize their losses as just the normal inevitable downturn. But they are running scared. They should be. Either one of the halves of Congress go to the Ds and the investigations start. And for the 2008 election, even the RNC has been saying the demographics are not turning their way. That’s why Tancredo pisses ’em off so much.

Bush approval rating is at 34% Chenneys at 18%. I dont even have to mention Congress ratings, they are laughable.
Tom Delay bye bye,
