Wadhams Claims "50-50 Shot" at Beating Bennet

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times today:

Another seat that appeared secure for Democrats may be up for grabs in Colorado after Ken Salazar left to become Interior secretary. His replacement, former Denver schools chief Michael Bennet, is a political neophyte who could face a primary fight.

“It would have been a terribly uphill climb” to beat Salazar, said Colorado Republican Chairman Dick Wadhams, who suggests Republicans have “at least a 50-50 shot” of beating Bennet. [rsb emphasis]

Not exactly brimming with confidence, is he?

  1. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Wadhams will remain State Chair for the foreseeable future, certainly for at least the 2010 run.

His playbook is pretty simple, and his strategy never seems to get past name calling, dire predictions and manufactured scandals.

Just thinking here that the Republicans are going to rethink things.  2008 was a disaster for them, and Wadhams has to accept responsibility. The Schaffer campaign was a disappointment. If the more moderate, pragmatic Republicans can get any foothold, replacing Wadhams might be a possibility.

After previous losses the Republicans have turned hard right. I don’t think it’s an option for them now. It’s hard to imagine Tancredo, Beauprez, or Caplis as effective candidates. Just too extreme and ideological

The only problem with my own scenario, I can’t think of any Republican moderates that are legit heavyweights right now, as we speak. But Honestly, I don’t believe that the crowd at the anti-stim rally on the Capitol steps could possibly be representing the majority of Republicans in Colorado. No way.

    A little help please.
