Guess Who Hasn't Voted Yet?

Congressman Mike Coffman (R-Aurora) once promised to spill the beans on his choice for President “when ballots go out.” Denver Post reporter Jon Murray followed up with Coffman’s campaign recently to see if and when the Congressman would make his choice at the top of the ticket, and we’re still waiting:

We took a look at publicly-available voter records, and it does appear as though Coffman has yet to cast a ballot in 2016. Like many Colorado Republicans, Coffman is terrified at the thought of losing support from supporters of Donald Trump, so he’s gone out of his way to ride the fence on his ultimate voting decision. Murray’s question for Coffman got us thinking about other well-known politicos and their voting habits, and from what we found, Coffman is more the exception than the rule here.

Coffman has not yet cast his ballot, nor has his wife, Attorney General Cynthia Coffman (who can’t vote for her husband anyway). Senator Cory Gardner has also not yet voted as he hopes beyond hope to get through 2016 without having to explain to anyone whether or not he cast his ballot for Trump. Gardner has been traveling the country in recent weeks stumping for Republican Senate candidates in advance of his own bid to head up the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) for the 2018 cycle; obviously, Gardner would rather not discuss whether or not he voted for Trump when he’s trying to position himself to lead the electoral efforts of Senate Republicans in general.

Now, this is the point in our story where you might be inclined to say that perhaps these folks are just waiting for Election Day to cast their ballots. Perhaps…but this would put them in the minority among their peers. Virtually every sitting Member of Congress from Colorado has already voted (we’re not sure about Ken Buck, as his voting record is more difficult to access for some reason). Senator Michael Bennet and GOP challenger Darryl Glenn have voted. Governor John Hickenlooper has voted.

We have no doubt that Gardner and the Coffmans will indeed cast their ballots before 7:00 pm on Tuesday. Presumably, they are not still waiting to see if Trump will drop out of the race for President…they’re just hoping you’ll forget to ask who they supported in the end.
