New RNC Leadership?

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Not really. His track record is just more of the same crazy “conservatism” that has plagued the party for so long.

Former Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele was just elected chairman of the RNC. Here are five facts about the new leader of the Republican party:

1. Steele compared stem cell research to Nazi experiments during the Holocaust.

2. Steele bused in homeless African Americans from Philadelphia to distribute literature in inner-city Baltimore that featured a “Sample Democratic Ballot” with votes for Steele and former Gov. Bob Ehrlich, along with photos of prominent black Democrats.

3. Steele once described that “R” next to his name as a “scarlet letter,” complaining that being a Republican was hurting his electoral chances.

4. Steele was endorsed by Mike Tyson during his run for Senate. When Tyson, who used to be married to Steele’s half sister, pleaded no contest to assault in Montgomery County in 1998, Steele was on hand to support him.

5. Steele defended former Gov. Bob Ehrlich’s decision to hold a $100,000 fundraiser at a country club that did not allow non-white members, saying that the club’s membership’s policies were “not an issue” because “I don’t play golf.”

Whoa! Sorry, but that’s not someone I’d follow out of the crazy forest that the Repubs are in.

      1. .

it really bugs me that a politician would give food or money or comfort to homeless African Americans from Philadelphia,

        as Steele must have done.

How dare he acknowledge that race plays a part in voting decisions by including photos of candidates ? (your point #2.)

How dare he acknowledge that “R” next to his name was a liability with some voters ?

How dare he provide any kind of emotional support to a former family member, even menacing Mike,

when he practically admits guilt to a crime, which is sometimes a tough thing to do ?

        I concede point #5.

        And he’s right about abortion.

So, 1 out of 5 point are valid.  Maybe find a better source to quote ?

        .

        1. It would bother me more if he just abandoned an old friend out of political expedience. I’m no fan of Tyson’s, but I am a fan of sticking by your friends in appropriate ways, even when they have done terrible things.

Assuming the accuracy of the allegations made above (always a big assumption), point #1 bothers me the most, #2 and #5 slightly, and #3 and #4 not at all. But, as for the one point I really take issue with (#1), why would I expect the Republican Party to select a party chairman who represents my values and perspectives rather than those of the members of his own party?

As the song goes (almost), it’s their party, and I can cry if I want to, cry if I want to, but, even better, I’ll go to my party instead, and help select people who hold positions I agree with.

    1. Wow, you would think that Steele was a Democrat or something.

The top of the page sasy David Duke PhD.  Really?  Wikipedia doesn’t even have him graduating from college.  KKKU?

  1. This guy is no more likely to  convince minorities that the GOP is the place for them than Clarence Thomas, Ken Blackwell or Condi Rice have been.

    1. The Republican faithful (not all but those who elected Steele at least) or so shallow that they actually think picking him will convince minorities that “Hey, look! we have blacks in our club too!”

It’s insulting yet funny all at the same time given the joke is on them because they still don’t get it.

  2. The essence here is:

    #2: He’s dishonest.

#5: He doesn’t care about racism.

That’s all we need to know.  Not sure why the other 3 points are there… frankly, I think they are net positive, and certainly at worst just disagreements on policy.  The GOP is supposed to disagree with us liberals on policy.

  3. Believe me – as a Republican activist, I made a good point to follow interviews and questions of each candidate that was up for RNC Chair

This was NOT a power-play to elect a minority for the sake of countering Obama

Chip Saltsman, Kent Blackwell, and Michael Steele were clearly the three BEST when you considered their interviews and the Q&A sessions that various political groups facilitated

Personally, I liked Kent Blackwell a lot, as I found his answers to be more leveled in good strategy, but Steele had excellent answers, and clearly, has a vision for how the GOP needs to trend in the future

Don’t listen to the hype that Steele is a crazy right winger — this is a great choice for the Republican Party and American politics in general….. history will ultimately prove that
