Obama, Pelosi, Reid won, but they're as nasty as ever

  • by: Another skeptic

Nasty won for the Dems in 2006 and 2008, and they appear determined to continue to be bitter and spiteful.

See Obama’s attacks on Bush in his inaugural speech, on the White House web site and in his meetings with GOP congressional leaders  where he put them down with “I won.”

Pelosi is a naturally bitter and divisive figure. Harry Reid is simply small.

At Bloomberg, a conservative warns that by beginning their rule with incivility, Obama and his gang will undermine their ability to get big things done.

Obama’s first civility test is Pelosi’s manners. Read the whole thing. Think about it.

In an effort to be diplomatic, the author, Kevin Hassett, credits Obama with recognizing the need for civility and ignores the President’s displays of bitterness from minute one.

  1. I’ve never bought into this whole, “let’s all get along” mantra anyway.  Republicans lost.  They should be locked out of decision making.  Screw civility.  Democrats should treat the Republican minority with the same level of respect that Republicans showed the democrats when we were in the minority….none.

  2. How is a simple declarative statement of fact “I won” nasty and arrogant whereas the statement by Bush of getting a “mandate” (which carries far deeper implications) via a much narrower margin is not?

  3. http://briefingroom.thehill.co

President Obama won praise from some of the House’s most conservative lawmakers as “engaging” and “respectful” during his meeting with congressional Republicans Tuesday.

Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.) said that Obama was sincere and “impressive” during his meeting with Republicans Tuesday afternoon.

“There’s real desire in this room to figure a way back to prosperity,” Inglis wrote on Twitter. “[The president] and Republicans here [are] expressing deep concern about unemployment.”

“If [the] President carries this on it does open door for a new tone!” Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) exclaimed.

Just because you definitely want him, and by extension the country, to fail, doesn’t mean you are right about his tone. Apparently House Republicans are a little more reasonable than you or their own leadership.

    1. I don’t agree with Limbaugh on much, but he’s correct in saying that we all want the economy to recover.

But the last thing we want is a socialist America, which Obama and the Dems are trying to create.

Watching what Obama does instead of what he says, it’s clear that he’s decided that Bush’s gentlemanly approach to the opposition doesn’t win elections.

      1. keep doing what you’re doing, no better way to break from my macroecon reading than reading hilariously post-ironical commentary. You go (girl?)!

      2.   But the second someone suggests that Obama and the Dems are trying to create a Socialist America, I simply label them a Right Wing Loon and remember to dismiss all future comments as coming from a crazy person. Anyone else?

  4. No doubt his movement to 1600 is historic. However, the bench mark are other Presidency’s and the expectations of the American (some Dems and Pubs would agree non-Americans too, but not me).

Early failure could mark a re-run of 1994.

      1.   Maybe someone could help out the Congressman from California by opening up an Economics textbook and pointing out that 1) In a credit Economy a dollar borrowed does not mean that that dollar is not spent elsewhere and 2) that the velocity of circulation is not fixed. A dollar spent in one area of the economy eventually flows into other areas of the economy. (An employer pays a wage to a worker, who uses the wage to buy goods and services, which further helps employ the maker of those goods and services, etc).

Democracy would be a lot easier if we didn’t have hold things up every time Republicans don’t understand shit.
