Denver Clean Out Of Democrats

Politics West reports:

In addition to Senate President Peter Groff…local Democrats in Washington for the inaugural include: Gov. Bill Ritter and his wife, Jeannie; Sens. Gail Schwartz of Snowmass Village and Rollie Heath of Boulder; Reps. Beth McCann of Denver, Dianne Primavera of Broomfield, Sara Gagliardi of Arvada, Andy Kerr of Lakewood and Anne McGihon of Denver.

Officials from Denver include Mayor John Hickenlooper and District 11 City Councilman Michael Hancock.

And it’s not just electeds–activists, nonprofit leaders, usual Colorado political suspects…lots of out-of-office autoreplies will be seen today.

Here’s a photo that was just emailed to us by Mike Huttner of local liberal activist group Progress Now, recording the scene at 1st and D Street:

In an accompanying message, Huttner says the line where he is has moved only a few feet in a matter of hours. Upshot? Apparently Jesse Jackson is stuck in the same spot with him.

Are you in DC now? If so, send us updates–you can either add a comment to this post, or if you haven’t figured out how to log in with your Blackberry (you can do this, fyi), send your photos and updates to webmaster@coloradopols.com and we’ll post them.

UPDATE: We’re getting word that many folks near the inauguration are unable to send photos, text, or even complete phone calls, on account of a couple million other people trying to do the same thing in the immediate vicinity. Good luck with that.

From a Denver-area elected official who prefers to remain anonymous:

We’re making our way to our assigned seats now. We’re lucky to have seats, because it appears that many in standing room areas, not to mention the general public, will never get close enough to see much.

  1. for folks to send in. At least, with regard to cell phones, there are millions more cell phones and 0 more cell towers. I had one call that dropped as soon as I answered and that was on Saturday.

I wish I was there. Wish I could have seen Sheryl Crow and Beastie Boys last night at their Rock the Vote concert.

    1. Saw that somewhere the last few days. Yeah, right, a million people have that discipline if they’ve even heard of it.

Mom pulled up the Lettermen Ten Best Bush Moments video on her laptop for a finale.

  2. I would have loved to go out, but I think we have a much better view on TV.

My niece had to go to a tent at 6:00 am D.C. time and sit there waiting until it is time for the parade to start. So she misses all of it – but then gets to march in the parade.
