    1. And separately, David, not a common occurrence, and I’m sure that person no longer has a concealed license.

Guns don’t go off unless you’re a moron.  At least this guy’s went off at a toilet instead of one of his kids if he doesn’t know how to carry/handle it.

            1. Originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers (8th overall) in the 2000 NFL Draft. He played college football at Michigan State University. Burress earned a Super Bowl ring with the Giants in Super Bowl XLII (2008).

On November 28, 2008 Burress, a NJ resident,  entered at NYC nightclub with a concealed handgun in his waistband. While fiddling with a drink a negligent discharge occurred, striking Burress in the thigh. Plax was subsequently suspended indefinitely without pay from the Giants and released on $100,000 bail.

      1. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn’t work and then they get elected and prove it.

        Only four more days…

        1. From the same article as my signature:

If change came in a box, what kind of box would it come in? You’ve read your Bulfinch’s. After Pandora opens her container (made of recycled material so that death and disease leave a small carbon footprint) and all the evils that plague mankind have been loosed on the world, what’s left inside? Do you think it’s a good sign when nothing remains but hope? What would your girls have liked best for Christmas? A kennel with a puppy? Or a carton full of empty promises?

In the language of politics there is only one translation for the phrase “hope and change,” to wit, “big, fat government.” Mr. Obama, if you’re going to give us big, fat government, you need to be a big, fat politician. You need to be a Tip O’Neill, a Teddy Kennedy, a Richard Daley, a Bill Clinton at the very least. And you don’t seem to be a big, fat anything–literally or otherwise. You seem to be .??.??. smart and organized. Like Jimmy Carter!

Kahr Arms is an American small arms manufacturer founded by Kook Jin “Justin” Moon (son of Unification Church founder Sun Myung Moon), who currently serves as CEO and President. It is owned by the Saeilo Corporation (pronounced say-low), a subsidiary of the Unification Church International holding company.[1]

(28 February 2000, Texas) A Houston man earned a succinct lesson in gun safety when he played Russian roulette with a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol. Rashaad, nineteen, was visiting friends when he announced his intention to play the deadly game. He apparently did not realize that a semiautomatic pistol, unlike a revolver, automatically inserts a cartridge into the firing chamber when the gun is cocked. His chance of winning a round of Russian roulette was zero, as he quickly discovered.

  3. post front-page rights has been really strange. The diaries I would have posted in the side-bar regardless – get front paged.

But the ones I post about looking at policy, and possible changes – stay on the sidebar. I think that goes to the fact that Pols is more about politics (how different things will play out politically) and not so much about policy (what should we be doing).

  4. Opponents will have to work the fringes Directly taking on the 2nd Amendment would lead to Democrat blood letting at the polls.

I know, I know you say this is not a 2nd Amendment right. I say whatever, it will be cast that way.

The facts is that during 2008 thousands of Coloradans and other residents legally or illegally made new economic, social and value investments in armaments.

    1. The big fantasy from the Gundamentalists is that more legal weapons on the streets will result in much lower crime rates. That was the snake oil sold during the GOP’s  railroading of the concealed weapon law.

It been what, almost 6 years, and the crime rate has stayed (statistically) about the same. Where’s all the hardened criminals fleeing the State, terrified that anyone they plan to rob MIGHT be packing heat?

Why is there still problems in downtown Denver on the weekends with idiots opening fire on each other? Aren’t they supposed to be terrified at that prospect of passers-by whipping out their gats, and blasting them?

I’m glad that so many people took the CC classes, and learned some valuable skills and responsibilities of gun ownership. But it’s complete bullshit that it resulted in any significant drop in crime.

      1. So what is your point? I mean if you told me other residents (i.e. illegal aliens) had greater access to referenced weapons, that this access was driven by the Bush plan, that this plan promoted the wholesale dumping of these weapons onto American soil, and that this added to the national trade deficit … then you might have a debatable position set.

As for your reference that conceal carry was…

it’s complete bullshit that it resulted in any significant drop in crime.

        you should note some data.

        My position is this

Colorado’s conceal carry is fairly settled

Opponents will have to work the fringes

        1. They’re buying firearms at an elevated pace due to:

          1) some delusion that the UN Blue-Helmet Army is waiting for Jan 21st to take all the guns away or

2)Read (and believed) the NRA frogwash that says arming yourself to the teeth will magically make crime go away.

Here’s the numbers I’m citing – they list year, population, and violent crime rate:

Colorado Crime Index Rates Per 100,000 Inhabitants

          2003 4,547,633 377.9

          2004 4,601,403 372.0

          2005 4,663,295 396.7

          2006 4,753,377 391.6

          2007 4,861,515 347.8

(I can’t find any data for 2008 yet.)

So, in the first 5 years we have data, there’s no significant mean variance in the numbers.

My point is lots of guns, concealed or otherwise will not drop the crime rate. Neither will no guns.

          1. run on guns and ammo and all the stuff for those who load their own. It comes from the gundamentalists belief that Obama was elected to take our guns, a belief I hear espoused in Leadville literally every day. In early December I bought another rifle and the check took 3 hours. Used to be 20-30 minutes. The availability is also greatly impacted.

            1. But I did pick up a nice SOCOM-II because I think it’s likely he’ll try to enact a new assault weapons ban.

But I also have mountain property that’s pretty remote.

            2. Before the election there was a noticable increase in the number of cars at The Firing Line, Aurora’s largest gun shop.  After the election it was take a number and hope you can buy the gun you want before it is out of stock.

I stopped in to ask how things were going in December before Christmas.  They were and are selling everything they have.  Important note: they sell quality guns and are very reputable gun dealers.

I suspect at that time there was a lot of guys telling their wives they wanted the gun now rather then in the future under the Christmas tree.

I need to stop in sometime to ask how things are going now.

A major reason for the hysteria is the NRA doing a major anti-Obama campaign stating he was going to take away everybody’s guns.  Even when I showed people the correct info and that the NRA was incorrect it was poopoo’d.

How do you convince people who do not trust the government (thank you Reagan) and absolutely believe anything they are told by the NRA?

When I ran in 2007, my first speaking event was to the Aurora Gun Club.  Great place, but under attack by developers wanting to zone the land so it can be taken away.  I am against that.  I want the Aurora Gun Club to exist where it is for a long time.

And you are wondering how that speech went.

Hi, my name is Pam Bennett, I am a veteran and a small arms expert. . .

            3. I heard more than half a dozen people say that Obama is the anti-Christ and we should all stock up for the Armageddon.  At least that many, unrelated people, in different areas said that out loud, so other people could clearly hear.

A run on guns because Obama is planning to take them away doesn’t bother me at all.  I’m sure it would if I had to wait in line though. 🙂
