    1. There are at least 15 candidates for president on the Colorado Ballot.   If you want to gratify their egos, write a diary.   I vote against wasting space on the big line on people with no chance of winning.   The big line is a predictive list, not the U.S. Census.

  1. Climb down my rain barrel

Into my cellar door, /Ànd we'll be jolly friends  /for ever more, more, more more more. – traditional girls clapping rhyme and jump rope chant.

anyway, today you can legally have a rain barrel that captures up to 200 gallons of runoff for reuse in your yard or garden. Thank Rep. Daneya Edgar, and promise to be her jolly friend. While you’re at it, blow a raspberry to Rep. Jerry Sonnenberg, who tried so hard to block the rain barrel bill.

      1. Cool, cook! I had no idea Willie had covered the old "playmate" song…. I got to see Willie at Fiddler's Green recently (Thanks, Michael!) The "rain barrel / playmate" song wasn't on the playlist, but Willie put on a great show…

    1. August rains bring . . .

      . . . Home Depot rain barrels?

I'm thinking about waiting to  purchase mine around about the time it might actually rain a few gallons some here again . . .

      . . . next April ?

Ok, true confession, I already bought mine a few years back on the black market in enlightened Nebraska.  Had them smuggled across the border disguised as cantaloupe planters.  Believe me, it's true!

      1. Rain barrel, smain barrel, so what? I've been collecting rain water off my roof for the yard ever since I bought my house 20 years ago. Occasionally I've stored some. With one exception, the downspouts run into my yard. And so what if a pol like Sonnenberg objects? Guess it's the Edward Abbey in me.

      2. Get them before it snows, Dio. Snowmelt comes off of your roof, too. Our roof is so well insulated that we often have a foot or more up there in the winter.

          1. or put them in a warmed space, or apply heat tapes…lots of options. I guess the solutions would depend on the situation…not needed too much in the winter for its intended use, is it?

  2. While this story is all over every media platform, rarely is it mentioned that Trump's contention that HRC wants to abolish the second amendment and would appoint justices who would do so is not only false but impossible.

First, nowhere has HRC suggested abolishing the second amendment. Second, while the courts can overturn decisions on what does or does not comport with the constitution they have have no power to abolish amendments.

That can only be accomplished by via two thirds of congress and three fourths of the states or a constitutional convention with three fourths of the state legislatures agreeing.  The Supreme Court is not even part of the process.  Yet the media is allowing the public to believe that abolishing the 2nd amendment is something HRC has called for and could accomplish via Supreme Court appointments, a fiction from top to bottom without so much as grain of truth by any objective standard.

With a very few exceptions we are being failed miserably by our nation's current sorry excuses for journalists.  Sure they are talking about Trump's outrageous language in implying that the 2nd amendment can only be saved by a 2nd amendment solution if HRC becomes president but that's only the most sensational part of this story. The most important part for the public to understand before they get all hysterical one way or the other, that what he's warning about isn't even a possibility in our system of government in the first place, is being totally ignored, probably because it's boring fact instead of scandalous sensation.

Any nut cases who would take Trump seriously and attempt an assassination or armed rebellion would be doing so to prevent something that they have no reason to fear because our system just doesn't work that way. Since Trump also believes that judges pass bills I suspect he isn't lying when he claims the Supreme Court can abolish amendments so much as displaying his appalling ignorance, an ignorance mirrored in his supporters. And those supporters are not being educated. Once again the media is doing it's he said/she said thing and nothing much more.

    Shame on the nation's journalists.

    Shame on the GOP.

    1. +10

Very many gun nuts and just regular nuts take it seriously. It's repeated a 1000 times a day by our Friends in Talk Radio and reinforced by the NRA.

Journos keep failing, But it's the pattern they've maintained since Bill C "was going to take away your guns." Then Gore, then Kerry (I witnessed teen boys already programmed into this thought mode by then), then Obama, now Hillary.

It's a fool-proof strategy for R's who never have to answer for it because journalists don't want to be bothered….

                  1. Sorry, BC. You missed by a mile laugh Not sexist at all…I am only recommending that a long skirt and boots once in a while is a perfectly reasonable alternative to Madam Secretaries' customary cocoon of fabric.

At least, as mama suggests, she has a rainbow of colors, which is the thing that keeps her from looking too much like Kim Jong Un from a distance….well..and the hair, wink

It is kind of difficult to critique the fashion sense of men in Washington. They all wear the same uniform…

                    1. outta replies…

No apology necessary, Liebchen. Who would think an old white guy, like me, is a closet fashionista? Although I never pursued my fondness for fashion in a fiduciary way, I have always been interested….but not quite a devotee. The suit and tie as uniform for men in government is a pretty strict code. I have never gotten comfortable with it, though I realize the necessity and follow it.

Mostly, I was coming up with test question #2 for snagging our resident Clintonian in Dios' experiment…it worked…but only tangentially….laugh

                1. President Carter was also no fashion whiz. Kind of a Mr. Rogers look. And Obama famously wore mom jeans to go for a bike ride. Of course, if you asked the average woman, or many men, Obama could dress like Pee Wee Herman and make it look good.

I kind of like Hillary's jewel toned pantsuits. At least she doesn't feel like she has to do the somber navy blue suit all the time to be taken seriously.  We may just have to get used to her making up the style of the first female President as she goes along.

                2. LOLOL.  I would've guessed for sure that was the right bait, Duke . . .  devil

. . . nibbles from a couple of guppies, but nary a sniff at all from that finicky great white whale??

Oh well, it's fishin' not catchin'. . .

                  You'll gaff him another day!

                  1. You gonna let him call you a whale like that, V?

Just because you have that coffee table book of “Hillary Style Through the Years”…

Wait…..am I going to let him call me a guppy?

(sorry for the giant picture, but whenever I try to resize images, we get the infamous partly visible image)

            1. Today's journalists are more like electron staineed wretches, cookie, which doesn't work at all.  Use the veverable term "hack" and you will catch most of them.

  3. Speaking of editorial pages and journalists, I just discovered (sorry if it is old news) that Dede Laugesen, wife of Wayne Laugesen of the Gazette's editorial page is the Trump campaign's Colorado Coalitions director.  Curiously, the Gazette didn't disclose this fact when its editorial board praised Trump's economic plan.  I shouldn't be surprised and yet…

  4. No Scandal in New State Department Emails, but Hillary Still Has Some Explaining to Do

The drip, drip, drip continues: The latest batch of State Department emails from Hillary Clinton’s tenure, released Tuesday, further highlights the occasionally overlapping interests between the agency and the Clinton Foundation. The messages, which don’t directly involve the Democratic nominee herself, aren’t going to overshadow Donald Trump’s ongoing self-immolation—nor should they—but they are worth a closer look.

      1. Truly…Trump is a dam breach…a catastrophic failure of the dikes the GOP has used to contain its sea of Tea Party/ Dixiecrat hatred. As a teenager down south in the 60s, I kinda know where this is going and I am not happy about it.

The Christian right has finally understood the depth of the GOP/Wall Street wing of the party double cross cleverly perpetrated on their hateful little hearts. The covert racism genie is out of the bottle and is not inclined to go back in there. The aristocrats can no longer contain their dupes.

Sadly, the ultimate failure of Donald Trump will be unacceptable by far too many violent, right wing, extremists and the resultant mayhem could be extensive. When you have serious seditionists like Tom Cotton in the Senate, and many others like him all over congress and our state and local governments, the coming fury and its repercussions will be widespread and intense…and personal.

I hope we are all prepared….

    1. I'm at the Newark Airport right now. The approached to the airport makes one wonder why this is called the Garden State. It resembles a toxic landfill. The fat slob (a phrase his BBF, Donald Trump, has made fashionable for use) has done nothing to improve this hell hole. And I see in today's N.Y. Times, he flat out lied during the investigation into Bridge-gate.

      1. Newark hasn't been a garden spot since the rise of the Industrial Age. Now, driving along the Garden State Parkway outside of the major metro hubs, or taking a drive through the western 2/3 of the state (excepting the Philly suburbs) is as pretty as any drive through New England or the Mid-Atlantic states.
