Word is making the rounds; Mark Paschall will announce his intentions in spite of the wishes of NRCC to run for CD-7.
And for the second time in four years, the Congressional District will have a potentially bitter Republican primary
because with Mark (who captures the pro-family and libertarian crowds) waging battle against Rick ODonnell (the conservative policy wonk of Owens), the stage is being set for more political fall-out; a moderate Republican hoping to split the far right.
ODonnell is already backed by the DC guys hes got a top notch campaign manager, an NRCC General Consultant (we hear Patrick Davis) and media consulting firm (DMN Media) working for him, and we all know Ricks treasure chest is amassing.
But Mark will no doubt play a tight ground-game: working the activists, playing to the right and bringing along friends (read: issue groups).
The only republican group that seems to be absent from the fight are those pesky mainstream GOPers. For now the line entries stay the same
but an Anderson-like candidate may see an opportunity, after all.

good republicans have always been in short supply in cd-7. remember – beauprez had to move into the district himself to run for the seat four years ago.
zakhem will no doubt consider the possibilities, as should sergeant and anderson, but o’donnell is really the best hope we have to maintain the republican seat – and he’s a longshot, to say the least.
The more the merrier!
Not the subject, but Peter Jennings of ABC just died.
A high school dropout, Jennings worked as a bank teller for several years before moving into radio and then into television in 1961. He was hired by ABC in 1964.
We will miss you Mr. Peter Jennings.
Peter Jennings you were a class act and will be sorely missed!!
re: Paschall
As a Democrat, I am thrilled that Paschall is joining the race. He is the absolute epitomy of where the GOP has gone wrong.
This is GREAT news for us Dems! Hopefully the Republican primary will turn into a battle of who can pander most to the right wing leaving the eventual nominee easily (and correctly) be exposed for the right wing nut case that both of these men are!
It is more than a rumor…have you been to his web site? markpaschall.com
He’s running….
The plot thickens. Problem is that Paschall sounds too French. Maybe he should Americanize his name to appeal to the Republican base.
The link to the Paschall site doesn’t work.
The correct web site is MarkPaschall.org
who is the “top notch campaign manager”?
So Mark Pascall is going to take back our country from…the Republicans? HUH? Funny how a party can be part of the problem and part of the solution all at once.
That’s the same web page he’s had for the past couple of months. He’s not running. He was thinking about running because there was the possiblity that Rick O’Donnel would have to support C&D because of his job and Owens…. but me out against C&D – so there is no room (reason) for a Paschall candidacy. Everyone can stop their heavy breathing.
Forgive the sloppy typing above…Rick came out against C&D so there is no reason for a Paschall candidacy.
Knowing who MP’s base is, I am rather astonished that this anti-trade unionist is touting his family of origin’s past UAW affilliation. Does he think that he will be able to appeal to the handful of redneck, bluedog dems in the district? What is the strategy there? It wouldn’t appear to be of any use during his GOP primary.
Hey, Red Hawk – “pro-family”?
You mean “pro-Focus on the Family”? ‘Cause I don’t know of too many people who are “anti-family”.
Sorry about the incorrect link….

Clearly, you’ve never met my family.
And maybe Bill Cosby’s… “I brought you into this world, I can take you out of it. And I can make another one look just like you…”
But I know of few people who are disgruntled enough at the family life to go out and campaign against it. Most of them are people who’ve gone through a seriously nasty divorce. Statistics are actually against these people being Democrats, and hence probably against them being moderate Republicans as well, Red Hawk’s insinuation aside.
Check the facts – O’Donnell has come out in support of Ref C&D. Owens’ boy has to do what daddy says.
Yes, as CCHE E.D., ROD sent a letter out to all of Owens’ higher ed appointments urging them to publicly support C & D. If he’s against it now, then he was for it before he was against it.
I am glad to see that Mr. Paschall has found the correct web address for this site.
It’s interesting that Paschall obviously spent some fair change on his new website but still has not raised $5000 or filed his candidacy with the FEC.
Patriot/DD – Where is this letter? Do you have a link? I haven’t heard that at all.
Also, I went to Paschall’s website, it had some goofy clip of him talking, a link for endorsements (there were none) and a link to issues (there were none).
All I hear is the Paschall people spreading any rumor they can, but no actual facts.
Personally, I hope Paschall gets in the race, he will help O’Donnell with the swing voters in this district while Perlmutter runs to the left against Lamm. Also, when Paschall loses, we can finally be done with him since he will no longer be Treasurer!
Lapsus:
March 21, 2005, ROD sent out an email to many in the higher ed community which stated, in part:
“If we are to maintain a vibrant system of public colleges and universities in Colorado, it is important that the state continue to invest in our institutions. This week, the legislature will be voting upon the budget fix agreed to by the Governor and legislative leadership. The Governor hopes that you will call rank-and-file legislators this week to urge them to support the Colorado Economic Recovery Act and let them know how important it is to your institution and higher education in general.”
If this is not an endorsement of C & D by ROD, I assume he’ll make his split from the Governor public right away.

dd – must stop quadruple-clicking the Post button 🙂
Any way we can get a link to that letter? I’m not doubting you, and I have no horse in that race, but someone out there is going to wonder.
From the Denver Post…
Fortunately, Owens and O’Donnell are committed to increasing the amount the state spends per student, and that should help keep tuition hikes in check. Of course, voters must first approve Referendum C this fall for that to happen. Otherwise, the state will have little additional money to spend on higher education. If approved, it would allow the state to keep an extra $3.1 billion in revenue.
Higher education is part of the reason Owens and former Republican Party chief Bruce Benson are campaigning in favor of Referendum C.
O’Donnell also wants schools to be more efficient with their cash and resources. That’s important, but it’s only one part of the equation.

You’ll see the endorsement of CCHE on the yesonc-.com site. Oh, by the way, ROD is the exec director of CCHE in case anyone wants to “split hairs.”
Klink,
You seem like a knowledgeable insider. What do you think of the strategy of donating money to the weakest opposition candidate?
I am sure that your handicap of the 7th CD and your disdain for Paschall would certainly warrant a generous donation to Paschall so the dems can take on the “weaker” candidate…
Hey, I think its great that Paschall wants to get in the race, it will give the press something to do.
dd- I would like to see the letter, since nothing you posted actually said O’Donnell was for C&D.
Patriot – what article from the Post? I don’t see any quotes. You need to be acurate when making these types of accusations. No quotes leads me to believe that you are citing an editorial. Sloppy.
Seems pretty clear that Paschall is desperatly searching for a reason to leave his treasurers position. I think that is great, he will be out of politics soon enough.
De Nile, 7thcdgop?
The Colorado Economic Recovery Act is Ref C&D; dd’s letter (please can we get a link or public reference?) would definitely be a statement of support on ROD’s part.
Patriot’s Post article would be this one, which you could have found by typing in “Owens O’Donnell Referendum C Benson site:www.denverpost.com” or some similar query to Google. It took me about a minute. Of course, it’s kind of vague as to whether ROD is actually supporting C&D on that, but since he never asked for a retraction or clarification on a piece that strongly implies his support of the Referendum, that’s a pretty good indication.
Patronage Paschall? Some Republican actually thinks this guy makes a better candidate than O’Donnell? Not. This is clearly the Dems pick for the seat as they know he can’t win with Republicans. He ruined his reputation with Republicans a long time ago. Having Paschall stand next to Andrews and Caldara at the capitol to tout fiscal conservatism is like Bill Clinton promoting abstinance. Patronage Pascal doesn’t have a chance.
Here’s the deal then – let’s ask Rick “I must test the political waters before I render my non opinion that my handlers construct for me” O’Donnell.
Rick, do you support Referendum C or D? Any leader would know his position on such a major issue and one in which HIS OWN COMMISSION supports on the yes on c and d website!
Patriot –
Paschall called. He needs you to go back and finish building his website. There’s some stuff missing like “endorsements” and “issues”.
Paschall –
The FEC called. They are requiring you by law to file your Statement of Candidacy.
