Ritter has been very astute to date. I’m willing to assume he knows what he’s doing as we watch this play out.
As to the GOP being able to take the seat, I think that is very unlikely. Bennet has 2 years to become the incumbent and a know quantity in the state.
I thought you said in an earlier comment today that you were going to take a wait and see approach until after the announcement.

He had to pick Hick, but why would Hick want it? Hick doesn’t need to be 1 of 100. He gets all the press he wants at a national level running Denver.
Hick and his emissaries talked the Guv into this position after the Dem Senate polling showed only Hick could be picked.
This all leaves Hick free and clear to decide what he wants to do and Romo is left out in the cold.
Great guy Romo, hopefully there is something worthy out there for him. This move was a real crap down for Romo.

I haven’t been able to get to the front page for two days now. I finally realized I can get directly to the diaries thru the links on DenverPols.
I went to the press conference and am sorry to say I learned nothing new there. I was rather interested to hear the continual praises for Bennet’s administrative skills. Sadly, those skills have little bearing on the job of a legislator. But at least he should be able to run an efficient office in DC.
Bennet is running for the seat in 2010. He says he knows the work he has to do, but since he has never run for ANY office before I am not entirely sure he knows what he has bitten off here. I do hope he hires VERY good campaign staff.
I received a lot of flack up thread for pointing out the obvious, this was not the best political move on the part of the Governor.
I, like nearly all of Colorado, don’t really know Bennet very well. He may well turn out to be an excellent Senator, but I simply have nothing to refer to in order to access that possibility, so only time will tell there. I have done a little research into things that may indicate hs position on various topics. On social issues, I see a potential for progressiveness, which is good. Fiscally, he is quite a bit more liberal than I am, but then so is nearly every other Democrat I know. I was not able to find anything to indicate where he may be on foreign policy issues.
My frustration is not aimed at Bennet, but rather at the Governor. Defending this seat has now become a momumental task, and it simply did not need to be this hard. I really do not think this was fair to the party, who will ultimately bear the brunt of the ground game in 2010. Nor is it fair to the rather deep well of talent the Dems are fortunate enough to have right now. These are people who have already run for, and won lower offices, served well, and have distinquished themselves as legislators.
It really is not fair to Michael Bennet either, I just don’t think he realizes it yet. For Bennet to be successful in 2010, Bennet has to pretty much be at EVERYTHING where voters will be present. Of course, that is nearly impossible to do while serving 2000 miles away in DC. I suppose he will be able to mitigate some of that by making HUGE TV buys during the election year, but he still needs to be there in person as much as possible to win over the majorty of Colorado (ie the non-Denver area). I’m really glad being his scheduler is not my job!
At this juncture, I will simply wish Mr. Bennet well and hope for the best. However, I am not prepared to sign on to supporting him in 2010 yet. I suspect there will be a potential primary challanger from some quarter or another, so I will wait to see who, if anyone, lifts their hand.

I, too, was/am disappointed in Ritter. This far in since Bennet’s appointment, I know I’m going to vote for Romanoff in 2010. I’ll write him in if need be.
