According to The Associated Press:
Washington attorney Eric Holder is President-elect Barack Obama’s top choice to be the next attorney general and aides have gone so far as to ask senators whether he would be confirmed, an Obama official and people close to the matter said Tuesday.
Holder, a former U.S. attorney who served as the No. 2 official in the Justice Department under President Bill Clinton, would be the nation’s first black attorney general.
An Obama official and two Democrats in touch with the transition team confirmed that Holder is Obama’s top choice but the Obama official said the decision has not been finalized.
We don’t know much about Holder, but he does have a cool mustache.

Janet Napolitano, but Holder appears to be a solid choice.
Perhaps Napolitano will find herself on the Supreme Court…
I hadn’t heard this before. From Governor to SCOTUS? Does she have the game that Warren had?
US Attorney for Arizona under Clinton and then Attorney General in Arizona before being elected governor, so she has the credentials.
…SCOTUS appointees who, like Janet, had NEVER been a judge before. Oh, Rehnquist too!
Her credentials are fine, except for the lack of judicial experience: a fairly big deal.
there have been quite a few Supremes who had no prior Judicial experience. Here is a link to a list (none since Nixon, but prior to him it was not uncommon):

…as in, during a relevant time period
moot. She’s Homeland Security Secty.
…as Wonkette points out:

Guess I’ll just have to trust Obama on this…and many other decisions.
Holder has a history of handling corruption cases, but he is associated with the Marc Rich pardons….which is not a good thing. I’m more interested in his feelings on accountability for the administration he’ll be replacing, his thoughts on sentencing and the drug war, etc. I know he is an opponent of the death penalty but when he was confirmed for his post in the 90s he pointed out that he would, of course, faithfully execute department policy on capital punishment.
Anyway, we shall see….
was Marc Rich?
That was weird times.
Who is going to be foolish enough mention Marc Rich after Bush issues a blanket pardon to all those involved in the CIA interrogations?
See Salon.com 7/10/08:

is there going to be anyone in this administration who didn’t work for Bill?
because those were some awful times…
Who cares?
about all those Democrats who voted to keep Hillery and her cronies out.
…a vote for Obama was hardly a vote against Hillary…..say to yourself 1000 times and then start over
Look, there was a Democratic president for 8 years in the White House, from 1993 to 2001. During that time frame, people (especially Democrats) with good qualifications for government positions were extremely likely to be offered a spot in the Clinton administration. This doesn’t make them Clinton “cronies”; it makes them qualified.
Now, there’s certainly a Clinton crony crowd out there. They include, say McAuliffe and similar. But Holder doesn’t seem to be one of them.
I know how about someone from the Bush Administration?
Yes it is true, he does have a very cool mustache.
Holder strikes me as someone who simply has experience. Not alot of controversy, with the obvious exception of the Marc Rich affair, but I would expect him to have learned from that.
p.s. Im Back!
a former US Attorney for the District of Columbia, which handled both local and federal prosecutions. He is well-respected, very smart, and very well-liked. He’s someone who worked his way up, went to public schools in Queens then Columbia undergraduate and Law School.
you mean we have to put up with another intelligent, accomplished, successful rags to riches person running the US government ? Crap – I just can’t take it anymore ! Where is Harriet Miers when you need her ?
