Everyone is reeling from the Democratic victory last week and I know people are tired of hearing about certain issues like Sarah Palin or Amendment 48.
I’m assuming these are the same people who are happy that their television is not spewing forth political commercials anymore– we are safely back to the comfort of the corporate commercials telling us the preferred way of thinking and buying.
But the problem with this mindset is the failure to recognize that you cannot not be political. Everything we do effects the economy and the societal memes we constantly catalyze so we may as well get more comfortable with talking about politics and other more meaningful issues.
Many recently defeated amendments that threatened our freedom will be back. My personal favorite was the resounding defeat of the personhood amendment that sought to instill a narrow and religiously based definition of person into the Colorado Constitution.
Hopefully we all understand that the fantastic abortion “debate” will stay with us at least until the deniers of evolution evolve. In the meantime, I would like to see more choice demonstrations and mainstream media hits like this one happen more often in the interest of vigilantly keeping the fundamentals of the Constitution at the forefront of the collective political radar. There must always be a separation of church and state and an appreciation for the liberty such a separation affords.
I know it’s a dead horse but as long as the ghosts of their superstitions continue to haunt by attempting to legislate, so shall I be there to answer with questions.
Now, who’s with me?

Any specifics on expansion of rights or funding upticks. What moves your needle?
.
the consensus here appears to be that its entirely appropriate to put the (Declarational, not Constitutional) Right to Life up for a vote by majority rule.
The way to deny this foundational Right is to deny Personhood. Who’s next ?
The severely handicapped ? I’ve already read on this blog that beings with Down’s Syndrome are not human, but rather are “mutants” with decidedly non-human DNA.
Following this line of thinking, the guy on trial in Colorado Springs for raping and murdering a 19-year old with Downs, should he get away with it ?
Maybe, Marie, you could develop cognitive standards for deciding when “personhood” ends, so we can stop the drain on national resources of warehousing the aged and decrepit in “Rest Homes.” Think of how that would reduce the stress on the environment, and free up additional food. This is a partial solution to overpopulation.
As the balance of resources shifts, we could later adjust the cognitive threshold, in order to keep the number of hungry mouths manageable.
As DNA research advances, we may find that large swaths of the race really are different from the rest of us in critical ways that make them also not human, and thus not persons.
…..
Yes, Marie, we need to be vigilant. The Bush Administration pushed the envelope on spying on the citizenry; we could build on their successes in this area and build a better database (Bush has already built a primitive one, for total information awareness) to keep track of blog posts and text messages. In this Post-Election Thought Economy, we as a nation cannot afford to have folks think different than us.
We need to squash magical thinking, ghosts, and the superstitions that cause them. Well, the superstitions of folks who bought into the formal religions, that is. Not your superstitions, of course.
Their belief systems are to be derided; yours is to be elevated.
With your perspective on “progress,” all people will eventually adopt your value system. That’s the inevitable, inexorable path of “evolution.”
We all know, wink wink, that thought leaders like The Anointed One don’t really believe what they say they believe about a “God;” that’s just something he does to mollify the masses of religiously deluded sheeple.
It will be a brave, new world where everyone accepts the banal constraints of the “brights,” the skeptics, the atheists and the secular humanists.
“Why are we here ?”
Nope, can’t ask that question. It’s all just one big accident, without intention or meaning.
“Well, then, how did it all start ?”
A big bang, or some alternative “explanation.”
“Well, what about before that ?”
Nope, not allowed to ask that, either. You can only ask what our physics and astronomy priests can answer.
And please don’t call them “priests,” because our religion is superior. Call them “scientists.”
.
I read everything on this blog and I have never seen someone post this. A link would be nice.
that sure is asking a lot.
And guess what, no one on this blog ever said that people with mental disabilities, specifically Downs Syndrome, are mutants. A little sick that you would even put that out there.
I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and guess that you identify with the “innocence and helplessness” of a new pregnancy and that you see it as unjust that someone would, in your eyes, be careless and potentially hurt it.
Am I wrong? Would you agree with the above?
If you agree, I totally see where you are coming from but I want to challenge you to think about the reality of the infinitely varied situations of women and families in this country and this world. It is those people who *I* identify with. The same people who want to and have stopped sex education that would empower people to make decisions to prevent unwanted pregnancies, are railing against abortion. This is a recipe for disaster and it stems from small-mindedness and fear of the reality of animal sex.
I can’t fucking believe that I have to write this again. Pro-choice people are not pro-abortion, we are for self-empowerment and self-determination. If it is so much of a stretch for someone to see that, I pray that they get the contraception they deride so as to not perpetrate their ideas to their offspring.
I know its complicated and the first inclination is to obey the emotions that scream protect the innocent!!1! but you are being entirely irrational. If abortion was illegal, things would be much worse and if you don’t care about that, then fuck you.
