We talked yesterday about emerging challengers to Colorado Republican Party chairman Dick Wadhams, whose handling of the 2008 election has been widely criticized both anonymously and publicly.
One potential candidate we mentioned is rather nastily denying he plans to challenge Wadhams–Politicker caught up with Dan “Under The Bus” Kopelman earlier today:
“Tell your contacts who floated that rumor that he or she is an imbecile and should have the guts to go on record rather than lurking in the shadows of anonymity like so many cowards of the left-wing blog world,” Kopelman continued in the e-mail. “Dick would make a fine chairman for the State GOP and is perfectly capable of multi-tasking when he chooses to.”
Okie-dokie then. Scott McInnis protege Mike Hesse, on the other hand?
Mike Hesse, rumored to be a candidate to succeed Colorado Republican Party Chair Dick Wadhams next March, said Wednesday that he’s in “wait-and-see mode” about entering the race.
“It’s too early to tell,” said the former state GOP executive director, though he didn’t rule out the possibility of a run.
One major decision Hesse is waiting on is if Wadhams will seek re-election…
Translation: he’s waiting to see if Wadhams successfully clobbers the growing threat to his leadership before it gains momentum. You wouldn’t want to be on the losing side of that, either.
Stay tuned, readers, there’s much more to this developing story–and we’re waiting to hear back on a game-changing name that might get thrown into the mix shortly.

..cuz there could be plenty of those people around. What’s Troy Eid’s next move? hahahaha!
That he’s in for the US Senate against Salazar.
…for his first elected office, Eid goes for the Senate?! Why not, it worked for Tom Strickland (another U.S. Attorney). Oh wait…..
He’s actually in the hunt? He’s partisan enough, that’s for sure. But he’s a sycophant–possibly one of questionable ethics. And based on his quote above, one with no people skills whatsoever.
This guy is a no-talent back-bencher who needs only an ass to kiss to be happy. If the Republicans are even thinking about putting him in charge, they’re in much more trouble than I thought.
Hank Brown – He would concentrate on the fundamentals of operating the party and force everyone to get along and act like grown-ups. He would referee the discussion as to where the party would go.
Bill Armstrong – He would probably put more of his own philosphical stamp on the party. So we would get an old-school conservative party. But many would wonder if he was doing just to get Wil a job.
Joel Hefley – A bit more to the right than Armstrong, he carries weight but mostly in his district. And even there with the Lamborn/Crank fight, he has lost a bit of his oomph.
Any one of those three say “they’re interested” and Wadhams is toast.
Hank Brown is pro-choice (just did a pro-choice event this fall) so he is out. Hefley lives in Oklahoma now. Armstrong, I doubt it. And even if so, he just pulls the party further to the right and destroys it even more.
Armstrong would send the RINOs (the few remaining ones) into a stampede over to the Dems.
Hefley would face opposition from the Lamborn groupies.
Would Sen. Brown’s position on abortion compromise the GOP’s ability to get out the base?
I would seriously love to see Brown get it because I think he would elevate the dialog, but it’s a long shot.
He’d be a breath of fresh air after Crown Jewel Kingmaker.
Ritter’s position on abortion compromises Democrats’ ability to get out the base.
Plus 5 terms in CD-4 during the Reagan era is about as good a conservative credential as you can have.

CoPols approves of. I worry about how much angst Dick Wadhams has caused so if you will tell me who you like, I’ll pass it on and then you can relax and enjoy life more:)
