We would like to thank our two front-page guest editors from the last few months, Haners (R) and DavidThi808 (D), for their great work keeping your diaries promoted and plugging in their own insightful content. Hats off to them.
We will be holding an election for two new front-page editors at the end of this month. The new editors will start around December 15th, and barring anything unexpected will hold their position for six months–at which time we’ll hold another election. There will be two polls, one for the Democrat nominees and one for Republicans. And of course, the two current editors will be automatically renominated unless they decline.
Use this thread to nominate candidates for the Democrat and GOP front-pager slots; we’ll post a list of nominees a day or two before the polling.

I nominate Danny for the pinko-commie-socialist spot
But I changed my mind midway through writing my post. I’m glad I did, because you beat me Steve.
He is dumb enough to take the job, but smart enough to do it well.
in which case I would nominate RedGreen. Not that he would need to post as frequently as DavidThi, but hopefully more than Haners was able to do.
One of my favorite commenters, she’s highly intelligent, and very in tune with Colorado politics.
But I have to say you made my day with your comment.
Even I don’t think you’re too mean, Middle. I’d be fine with you, too. But then I’m so clueless, right?
And don’t know if Dems are invited to go for Rs but my R would be LB unless he’s been drummed out for voting for Obama. I’d also suggest Bob E for R but he really IS too mean. Well, not so much mean as touchy/grumpy/vulgar and needs to watch that blood pressure. Be well, Bob.
is because I figured he can’t do it being involved with the Denver Post and all. But if he can, I nominate him for sure.
And definitely LB. Definitely. And I’m a Dem but I’m assuming we can nomnate anybody since our blog is bi-partisan.
That was a nice thing you said, by the way. Thank you for that.
no, any time I can spare to promote articles and stuff I do it for our own post-ed notes blog. Gotta pay the bills, you know…
Couldn’t even get a rise out of Bob and that’s usually so easy.
because I’m working night and day to counter your fascist, communist, zionist anti-semitic conspiracies! Now, go back to the Trilateral Commission where you belong!
and i thought i was confused when McCain supporters were calling Obama a Muslim terrorist socialist
terrorist pacifist who wants to take your guns away. Lordy, Indipol, do I have to explain EVERYTHING to you?
Don’t you know?
Obama is one of those reprehensible “Christianists”.
Does that mean I can keep my guns?
Yours aren’t guns, they’re ‘antiques’.
Better turn them in at your first opportunity. Maybe you could trade them for some Nuggets tix?
that I’ll trade for Nuggets tix if they ever offer such a deal again. But no way do they get my classic M-1 Garand or 03 Springfield — unless they offer me the whole Nuggets franchise in trade.
I also have a civil war era Indian trading rifle. It’s not in firing condition but what a link to history.
You, sir, are in possession of an ASSAULT RIFLE and are a TERRIBLE DANGER TO ALL OF US!!!!!
which fits every definition, right down to the pistol ammo. Like my garand, it has a low serial number and was thus in the Big Show. However, it was left out of the assault rifle ban because they didn’t want to hack off the vets and collectors.
It even has a bayonet stud, unusual on a carbine! That really sets the gun controllers off, though I don’t think the bayonet has played a significant role in combat since Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain ordered that charge at Little Round Top. Go figure.
that you were such a danger to the new American way of life.
Do you feel societally guilty knowing you couldn’t reside in DC and keep those in your house?
“Of course, you can take my gun.
Take the bullets first…”
I am basically sympathetic to the NRA on most issues involving firearms, though I have no problem with reasonable restrictions like the one-gun a month proposal. I really have very little time to shoot but as a history nut, I treasure the links to brave men my collector guns provide me. My father in law was a combat engineer in Normandy and every time I take the Garand out I think of the bravery he and his fellows displayed and how we can never begin to repay the debt we owe them.
that Wayne LaPierre wants nothing to do with. Unfortunately I’m in your category too
What happened at Normandy. Truly amazing.
Thank God CNN wasn’t around then.
on the originally scheduled D-day of June 5 and spent 24 hours lambasting the FDR administration for this ridiculous delay that was sure to heighten American casualties, which were already at appalling levels because of the incompetence shown in Sicily. Now, we break to Larry King for an interview with Rommel to get the other side of the issues…
I can’t remember when/where but it did happen once and was probably the last bayonet charge in history. One of those items of – there were so many battles under so many conditions in WWII that anything that could happen, did happen somewhere.
in North Africa used a bayonet charge against the Italian Ariete Division, which was an armored division! They destroyed it. But as lyrical as the notion of bayonets against tanks is, I’ve never found any evidence that the bayonet charge was anything but a morale builder. Long before you got into cold steel range you’d have thrown a grenade or shot somebody. In hand to hand, they often used entrenching tools. I can only assume the notion of fixed bayonets was just designed to worsen the already shaky Italian morale.
There are statistics on the number of WWII deaths from edged weapons of all kinds. I forget them, but they are small. Artillery was the big killer, with machine guns solidly in second place. From then on, it’s rifle, grenade, pistols or carbines if you have them, beating each other with butt stocks, or, my favorite, displaying full size cutouts of Dick Cheney in drag. (That one is a violation of the Geneva Convention, but anything goes in war.)
I have a short magazine lee enfield (SMLE) of WWII vintage similar to those the New Zealanders used. It has a spike bayonet, not the knife type bayonet my Garand takes.
you really need to read Dave Grossman, particularly On Combat, if you haven’t already.
will put it on the list. gracias, amigo.
I heartily nominate Laughing Boy. He’s excellent, quite balanced and would be a nice compliment to Danny.
I don’t think I can second a conseervative since I am a lefty.
Sort of like inviting Dick Lugar into your Cabinet. I think you two would make a great pair.
..I assume he will decline to run again. We gotta improve the bench, etc.!
Good one.
One of my favorites, that is, when Gecko isn’t floating around.
I’d be delighted to see him on the front page.
Aristotle and Arvadonian are two other poters I really enjoy.
Because I already have front page rights. It would just be adding the power to promote other Polsters’ diaries to the front page and put that little
(- promoted by so and so)
at the top.
I mean, I’ll never say no to more power, but maybe it should be someone who doesn’t already have some.
I don’t think that should matter. I really don’t. I think you should be in the running for obvious reasons–because you are an excellent and fair poster.
Say yes to the power. Say yes!
Is a result of his reporting during the DNC, which necessitated relaxation of normal diarist limits. He can keep it for the time being because he writes well.
Diary promotion authority is a significant additional responsibility.
before investing “diary promotion authority” in a relative newcomer.
How well do we know redstateblues? It’s true, he is quite the celebrity. Questions about his associations are fair game, and I’m not afraid to ask them.
In fact, since he is known to have palled around with domestic terrorists while covering the DNC — or at least been in the vicinity of the pepper spray! isn’t that enough to at least raise questions?
When it really comes down to it, his blatantly Marxist screen name and redistributionist undertones — I’ve said enough already. But if Gecko shows up to yell “Off with his head!” I won’t shush him from the podium, let’s just leave it at that.
But we both know the only terrorists I was palling around with were the ones sitting at the Colorado Independent table.
Granted, I’ll lock myself in my room and sob my heart out, but that’s a small price to pay for continuous improvement 🙂
In all seriousness, this is a good idea as all of us get caught in a rut. So I decline to run, not because I don’t want it, but because I think this is a good thing to do.
As to who – I think Danny & L.B. would both be superb, although there are a lot of others here that would be good.
With everything you said.
I’ve already started crying 🙂
Such an infrequent poster during the campaign. I know that many of us missed your MOR input. (Didn’t want to say Middle of the Road since that’s a handle.)
He’s pretty far to the right, actually. He just knows how to be nice and reasonable about it. (Not knocking you, Haners, just calling it like I see it…)
I’ve always resisted people calling me a moderate because I don’t consider myself to be a moderate-at least not in my views. If you want to seperate views from approach, you might have a valid argument there. I consider myself to be much more in line with Jim Demint then Olympia Snowe, but you’ll never hear me say we need to get rid of the Olympia Snowes of the party.
to start posting here? I’d enjoy that very much I think.
to get rid of the Olympia Snowes of the party.
(_*_)
“Mission Accomplished”
We lost Congress and the Presidency in one year!
🙂
If she hadn’t have served as an R since 1974, I think she’d defect this year. She’s voted with the Dems more than Republicans in all but the procedural votes in every year since 2003 but one, IIRC.
I’d warmly welcome her into the Dem Caucus if she so chose.
I apologize for my infrequent postings, which were due to multiple reasons. I work in financial services, and the market meltdown really stripped away my free time during the day, and the evenings were mostly spent working on a campaign here in town. And with all of that, there were times when I just needed to avoid the computer.
It was nothing personal, I assure you. Like somebody said, you only have 100% to give, and you can’t give more then one thing 100%.
But I appreciate your sentiments, though I don’t really feel that my views are middle of the road, mostly just my approach.
Two of the best (even if LB is a pawn of the plutocrats!) 🙂
n/t
Danny and LB.
..but diversity is a family value
We need someone who sees starbursts when Palin speaks. Is Rich Lowry available?
I like Danny and LB, but a few I’d like to see on the ballot include:
Phoenix
Parsing (although not living in the state could be an issue)
Repub36 (if he still wants to represent the GOP)
All three of them would be excellent. We have a lot more talent around here than initially meets the eye.
Aristotle.
or GoBlue for the Dem
I suppose nothing is lost by saying that I was one of the early front-pagers writing from the Dem side, and there are others who deserve to have some time with the byline.
I wouldn’t mind having the spot again in the future, just not this time…
Wasn’t that back in the Truman administration? Back when there were two Republican senators, a Republican governor, and five Republican members of Congress? I’d be glad to hear your front-page gloating, now that the tables have turned …
If elected I refuse to serve.
Unless there’s some free microbrew product involved….
so I nominate Nancy L Baldwin.;-)
She’s got newfound cred with the defeat of Buescher.
Oh I beg you. Please no. 🙂
That’s her name. I couldn’t think of it yesterday. Crazy lady with the world’s most complicated lawsuit.
Wow – that would be a disaster of epic proportions.
Maybe, but do not give it the access or passwords.
Why doesn’t Pols have an unaffiliated nominee?
I don’t have the time, but you should really find one because we are the ones that sway the elections in this state.
ps David, Pam, etc … FU2
that is an award of high honor.
You mean Felix Unger?
If only NEWSMAN can figure out those pesky “fair use” and “blockquote” things.
Nothing snarky to say about Thilly, just think his diaries are well written and incisive.
But if the Republican must be Nancy L. Baldwin, I won’t complain.
Nancy L. Baldwin (period after the L) was a deft and witty counterpoint to Nancy L Baldwin (no period, otherwise dubbed by Laughing Boy as Nancy Underparts.”
If you want the Real Thing for the GOP, you gotta go with the no period girl.
Thilly, of course, is wonderful.
and have too many speckles on my screen to tell if there’s a period after the L or not … but thanks for correcting that. Nancy L Baldwin, then, is my choice for the Conservative Voice of the Future on Pols. She is the One to lead the whack-jobs out of the wilderness.
He’s been pretty scarce these days, though he didn’t drop off like he said he was going to
What a brilliant mind:
But don’t you think they’d abuse their front page privileges? I can just see Lohan showing up drunk late one night and putting up ridiculous polls, incomprehensible headlines, illiterate posts with little to do with Colorado politics. But then we’d be stuck with her detoxifying little rantings for six whole months. (Unless I missed the impeachment provisions in the Pols bylaws.)
No, I say.
Stick with Joe the Blogger. Or Josephine the Blogger. They represent what’s best about Real America. You know, the American parts of Colorado. Those.
You’re just being “bitter”.
(_*_)
I bet the Pols’ parties are a lot better with LL in charge 😉
err, whatever do you mean, Steve. What could Lindsay Lohan bring to our parties that is missing now?
Where in the world does a 22-year-old moron come up with terms like that?
Was she raised by her great-grandfather or something?
Go figure.
White is a color, black is not (my Physics major speaking up).
How are Mike Gravel posts going to get promoted if you don’t include 3rd Party and independent editors?
n/t
I’m a Democrat through and through. In fact, my latest diary was going to be about the useless of Third Parties at a local level, what with what happened in Jeffco.
I think you folks have me typecast. Give Barron X the third party crown.
that “what happened in Jeffco” doesn’t stay in Jeffco. You’ll be posting an insider’s narrative of the campaign soon, right? That was a real surprise on a night of surprises.
Barron X is a good third party representative. But it’s strange, don’t you think, that there aren’t more Greens on here. Maybe they don’t use computers, and there’s an actual cork bulletin board filled with the Green version of Colorado Pols in the back of a Whole Foods somewhere …
.
I’d rather be considered for the “conservative” front page editor.
That’s different than being the GOP editor.
But, alas, I seem to lose a step every day. I must respectfully decline.
And I must confess that I get treated pretty fairly here by David808, and Haners, so I would trust whoever the community elects.
.
That’s enough to earn my nomination and vote. Well played.
only in whether the 3rd Party candidate is going to take votes away from their mainstream candidate.
When the f$#$ did we become a community??? Next someone is going to start talking about consensus…and we will wind up with a facilitator.
For god’s sakes, people, come to your senses…
LB and RG
And let’s start fighting again…
n/t
Let’s skip the group hug and get this show on the road.
I asked them if I could use it to beat people I disagreed with – they did not find that funny at all.
I might have found a somewhat more traditional use for such a stick…
I was always worried about front paging too much and so if in doubt I didn’t. And about half the ones I wavered on and didn’t – Pols then front paged. The one place I would do it if at all possible was a post by someone running for office – I figured if they were willing to enter this viper’s nest, they deserved front page.
And the writing my own posts, again I would put ones I was not sure were worthy of the front page on the side bar. And again, about half of those Pols would front page.
I always judged the worthiness of the posts by the number of on-topic comments in them. Occasionally one I thought was great – bombed.
So anyways, for whoever gets it, don’t stress about getting it perfect – you can’t. Just do a decent job and keep in mind no matter what you do, some will bitch.
You also can occasionally front page something that is way off topic, like I did when Arthur C. Clarke died (he was to me, like Michael Jordon is to many today) – yet the few times I did that, it turned out there were a lot of others who found it worth commenting on.
My point on this is for the effort you put in doing this, you deserve IMHO the occasional post that is off-topic. Enjoy the perks of office.
…I am totally in the tank for Danny the Red (hair). I nominate him.
No?
Unless he sent a substitute to WLJ’s place the other day.
Solid Poster who hasnt been mentioned yet, but definitely deserves nomination. Hopefully its not too late.
