Obama beat Hillary in part by promising to get out of Iraq in 16 months.
The anti-Iraq-War candidate.
But has his stance softened ?
A landslide today represents a rejection of Bush and his disastrous economic policies, but since he doesn’t talk about Iraq in the General Election, would it translate to a mandate on withdrawal ?

The move by Iraqi politicians to modify the SOFA agreement under discussion,
changing it to include a firm deadline for withdrawal,
presents the Obama campaign with an opportunity to reinforce his earlier commitments on Iraq.
But he’s been silent on this.
Maybe McCain, by promising to get us out in 100 years, is more committed to withdrawal than Obama.

It all depends on the size of the mandate.
If he has a Bush “mandate” of 2%, then it will be much harder for him to do so.
But with a solid mandate, I believe he will stay firm to getting combat troops out of Iraq in 16 months–with no permanent bases.
He hasn’t been talking about it front and center because the focus has been on the economy. But he has mentioned “finally ending the war in Iraq” in ads and in his stump speeches.
The Iraqi’s want us out within by 2011–It’ll be between 16-24 months.
The pressure from the base, the Iraqis and our allies will be too great for him to waffle on it.
We can’t afford to stay and the Iraqi politicians can’t let us stay. We’re leaving.
