Before jumping into the usual gossip and banter this morning, please take a moment to help fund Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
You might also consider praying for them.

President Bush plays a guitar as New Orleans floods

Nero would be proud.
For the owners of this site: there is an announced Dem. for CD5 now. His name is Jay Fawcett and he has filed his candidacy paperwork. I heard him speak at the Dem’s State Central Committee meeting. Nice enough guy, good sense of humor. He’ll need it for the uphill race before him. About the only thing I know about him is that he is retired Air Force.
Marshall – If Bush actes too fast he is criticized (Iraq), if he acts causiously to make sure that his trip to the affected area is the center of attention he is criticized(hurricane). Maybe he should call you every day and ask you what he should do for the day… no, wait you weren’t elected to anything, so nevermind.
Dan- I agree, Jay Fawcett should be placed on the 5th CD line at about 1000 to 1. He could give every voter in the 5th CD a $1,000.00 and he would still lose if he has a “D” by his name.
How many multi-personalities does this website have? Let me quess, you have 3 people that work this website, and you create at least 3 personalities from each person in the home office. Than means you have a total of 9 regular people that submit opinions. I really feel sorry for you REPUBLICANS, since everyone is leaving to become DEMOCRATIC and respond on PROGRESSIVE websites! How can you people make a living with such limited advertising dollars? You guys seem really despriate, since you are attacking even new people that have centrist positions. I suggest that you close down shop … seek real jobs.
GOOD LUCK !
I am a Louisiana native living in Denver. I appeal to anyone who reads this site and has connections in Washington to beg President Bush to get more help down there immediately. Luckily my immediate family is out of harms way but we have many friends and family missing. The accounts are horrifying. This is be a catastrophe of epic proportions…refugees in our own country! My friends’ husband along with 50 other men with boats went down to help in the rescue and were turned away. They said they couldn’t guarantee their safety. Not from snakes or downed power lines, but from looters. There is NO control in the city. There are countless web blogs with people begging for someone to rescue their family members. There is no one to tell, no one to answer. Violence is breaking out under the desperate conditions in the Superdome. There are not enough law enforcement and National Guard to protect the city and its citizens. The police and public officials have themselves had to become looters in order to survive. This situation is unimagineable. Please pray for my great state!!!
W is seeking an emergency approbriation from congress at this moment. Our prayers are with you.
LALady –
My heart goes out to all of you in New Orleans and the surrounding states. Where is the military? Where are the trucks and machinery? Where is the National Guard?
The blame for not having the support needed in your state falls directly on the President’s lap and those who did not have a plan for such a horrible event. Homeland security is flat-out a JOKE.
Keith –
Your W, is on vacation. Everytime HE goes on vacation, the nation suffers greatly. The minute you support him, HE takes a vacation. I suggest stop protecting him, and start asking important questions. You are not helping the country by placing your head under water. WAKE-UP.
Hey Keith –
You can’t say that I didn’t warn you about all of this … did I not tell you that your ideas were **s backwards? Attacking another country for oil, without expecting a GOD like event, is likened to going to church every Sunday for your whole life, and then discounting that a GOD exists. Does that sound familiar to you?
LA Lady – I dont know if you have watched the news, but the President is doing everything he can right now to get resources down there. They have already been deployed and are in route for your support.
Does everyone really think the President doesnt care about people in need? This is not a political issue – he cut his so-called “vacation” short to make sure that he could do everything he could to get the peeps down in Louisiana everything they need.
I know for the folks down in LA its little comfort until you actually see the resources, but lets not all jump on a bandwagon here. Help is on the way and its obviously a challenge to get supplies in there – but again, he has sent everything down there now – he has requested emergency funds from Congress and has signed a disaster declaration guaranteeing LA millions of federal dollars (if not more). From what I hear- he is planning a trip there very soon.
President Bush is delivering the aid, troops, resources and everything else that will be needed for the rescue, stabilization, and, rebuilding of the hurricane affected areas. He has coordinated the entire cabinet, military, and federal resources to be directed toward the mission. He has asked the American people to open their hearts and wallets for their fellow citizens. He has again shown the leadership necessary in difficult times. Some vacation. He is a true leader if you will take off your blinders and release the anger from your heart Peter. God Bless our fellow citizens and God Bless our President! Proud of the truth.
Haven’t you learned Peter?
Taxes are evil.
Government is bad.
Accountability is over.
Community is dead
Republicans think these people are getting what they deserve, dog eat dog mentality is core to the Republican Party.
I can guarantee the one thing Bush won’t do is put in price controls on gas where Katrina hit to help stabilize the area.
The party of oil and gas has got to make its money no matter how apocalyptic things get.
Marshall,
What you are ignorant about and unwilling to accept, even though Republicans have told you time and again:
Taxes: They are necessary for national defense, promoting commerce, and other very limited tasks.
Government is bad: If you cannot see taht a lot of what government does is bad, then you are blind.
Accountability is over: according to the Dems it is over. Republicans believe in personal accountability and prsonal responsibility.
Community is dead: Again, you are ignorant if you think government programs = community.
Keith –
YOU NEED AN EDUCATION KEITH:
Amendment 1
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redressof grievances.”
GOOD LUCK KEITH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marshall –
Yes, you said it absolutely correct. The “Compassionate Conservatives” do not exist. They are ***king liars about everything the serve. They are not Christian … they are bigots and evil evil people. They will lose control of the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House. And, THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE of this great nation will not let our country be destroyed by them! Great political change is coming … to save our Democracy and nation!!!!!!!!
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001051313
The Newhouse News Service article published Tuesday night observed, “The Louisiana congressional delegation urged Congress earlier this year to dedicate a stream of federal money to Louisiana’s coast, only to be opposed by the White House….In its budget, the Bush administration proposed a significant reduction in funding for southeast Louisiana’s chief hurricane protection project. Bush proposed $10.4 million, a sixth of what local officials say they need.”
Local officials are now saying, the article reported, that had Washington heeded their warnings about the dire need for hurricane protection, including building up levees and repairing barrier islands, “the damage might not have been nearly as bad as it turned out to be.”
Somebody call the insane asylum… we have located their missing patient with doomsday proclaimations…. Peter!
tellinya –
You’re a communist … you don’t give a DAM* about the people who are dying in New Orleans, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisana. I sincerely hope that GOD takes pitty on your dispictable soul. You have no regard for those who are suffering in our own country, much less our troops in Iraq. I am appalled at your ignorance of death and destruction in our own land. You make me sick to my stomach. REPUKES deserve their names … simply disguisting people.
The doomsday predictions are a result of the hideous “NIGHTMARE” BUSH ADMINISTRATION and the GOP. For every person who voted for a REPUBLICAN, you now have blood on your hands … creating a reason for GOD to seek punishment against the innocent in our country!
May God Have Mercy On Your Souls.
tellinya –
I agree with Peter, your attitude is awful. Don’t you realize how much damage this President has caused for the country, with what the current Republican Administration has done? I hope that you wilt and ask for Peter to forgive you for your horrendous talk and thoughts.
Peter has a right to bring his grievances against this Administration. My goodness, hundreds of bodies are floating in the streets of New Orleans! Doesn’t that suggest to you that our President has a lot of responsibility? We don’t have the National Guardsmen here to help these people. Many thousands don’t have food or water. We simply don’t have the equipment to help them! All the equipment is in Iraq! Haven’t you watched the news?
Why are you blaming Peter … you need to blame yourself. I doubt that Peter voted for President Bush. I think you need to look in the mirror.
Peter needs to be recognized as a Patriot that recognized that this Administration was corrupt. Peter is like our forefathers, who also decided to seek liberty from an oppressive government, by speaking out. Just because he speaks out, just as others are currently doing, does not give you cause to suggest that he is anything more than an honest American who really cares about this country.
WHO THE ***K ARE U?
NEW ORLEANS IN CHAOS, BUSH CALLS DISASTER HISTORIC
By Andy Reed
NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) – Authorities struggled on Wednesday to evacuate thousands of people from hurricane katrina – battered New Orleans as food and water grew scarce and looters raided stores, while President Bush said it would take years to recover from the devastation.
But the waters that have flooded the historic jazz city since Hurricane Katrina crashed ashore on Monday at last stopped rising. However, a (AP) reported story about a 72 million dollar levy project that was cancelled by the Federal Government and the Bush Administration, to use the funds for Iraq, is drawing strong Republican outcry.
More than 78,000 people were in emergency shelters and tens of thousands of homes and businesses were beyond repair, Bush said after flying over the scene of the disaster in Air Force One earlier in the day.
State governors ordered 10,000 additional National Guard troops to the stricken area — in part to quell the rampant looting — bringing the total to 21,000. However, it is simply too late for many of the hundreds of starving people.
Katrina may have killed hundreds of people in Louisiana and Mississippi when it hit the U.S. Gulf coast with 140 mph (225 kph) winds and a 30-foot (9-meter) wall of water that inundated miles of coastline, trapping people in attics and on rooftops.
“We are dealing with one of the worst natural disasters in our nation’s history,” Bush said after returning early to the White House from his Texas vacation to oversee recovery efforts.
“This recovery will take a long time. This recovery will take years.”
U.N. emergency relief coordinator Jan Egeland, who oversaw the Asian tsunami relief effort, said Katrina could easily dwarf the devastation of other recent natural disasters in terms of economic costs.
Egeland called Katrina one of “the largest, most destructive natural disasters ever,” and offered U.N assistance.
The U.S. military set out to staunch the flow of water into New Orleans from Lake Pontchartrain through breaches in the levee system that holds water out of the city, much of which sits below sea level.
Breaking News:
A plan to attack other countries for coastal hurricanes, has been recently uncovered by sources. The current Administration is lobbying for 300 Billion dollars to attack other countries, since New Orleans is under water.

1st Amendment
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
GOOD LUCK !!! I have a right to my opinion !!! 🙂
In my opinion, I think the nation is waking-up to the damage that our current Bush Administration has caused the country. Recently, Bush approval ratings have fallen to the worst levels in his career. Currently, reported by the Washington Post, Bush approval ratings are at only 45 percent.
The country is changing … as a Patriot (thank you Michelle), I think we will save our great nation with other Democrats, including those like Ms. Sheehan and the majority of the nation.
so michelle is just Peter’s feminine side right?
I used to like this site, now I have to sift through countless stupid posts by Peter and his alter ego in order to find anything of interest. Bye Bye, Coloradopols.
I’ve very concerned that someone actually knew all the words to “They’re coming to take me away”!
Geez –
You have a right to your opinion Geez. I welcome the debate over a RIGHT WING unbalanced website, and the viewpoints of those who are very upset with the Republican Agenda. Debate is healthy. IF this webpage were more balanced, (not followinig the precepts of “you are either with us, or against us,” we might find a middle ground. But, obviously, this website trys to suggest that Democratic candidates are not Americans, not unlike what the hateful Bush Administration has done to the country. What do you expect? You expect that a majority of this country is not going to say their viewpoints? You expect us to crawl into a corner and listen to more of the rhetoric from Rush Limbaugh without an equivalent response?
The Republicans began this intimidation, and the Democrats are frankly sick and tired of your desires to remove our liberty. We will continue to “force down your throats” our idealisms, as long as you continue to do it to us.
If this website is not fair and balanced, then you will limit yourself to only becoming a unfair, unbalanced destructive opinion.
WAKE-UP … the country is no longer behind your rhetoric of destruction. People are hurting because of your idealogy.
YOU ARE LOSING THE DEBATE !!!
Seek LOVE Geez … stop the unfairness, listen to others opinions … and attempt to read your Bible everyday.
GIVE PEACE A CHANCE … stop the war and intimidation. We are people too … your way of doing things is vastly unmatched by a majority of the country, who have very strong opinions against your one side views.
The Democrats are not going to allow the Republicans to destroy this country … even if GOD sent yet another Message against the GOP agenda.
GOD IS LISTENING … AND, HE IS NOT HAPPY.
Dan Willis –
Someone else used my name, Dan. This is just a tactic that this website uses, and doesn’t have much control over, and it is used to intimidate. I certainly don’t carry around such literature … but, I am certain that people who are uneducated use such methods.
THIS IS SIMPLY GREAT PLANNING BY THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION.
Experts: $4 a gallon gas coming soon. Pricing analysts say consumers can expect even higher prices at the pump.
August 31, 2005: 4:11 PM EDT
By Grace Wong, CNN/Money staff writer
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – Consumers can expect retail gas prices to rise to $4 a gallon soon, but whether they stay there depends on the long-term damage to oil facilities from Hurricane Katrina, oil and gas analysts said Wednesday.
“There’s no question gas will hit $4 a gallon,” Ben Brockwell, director of pricing at the Oil Price Information Service, said. “The question is how high will it go and how long will it last?”
OPIS tracks wholesale and retail oil prices and provides pricing information for AAA’s daily reports on fuel prices.
Brockwell said with gasoline prices now exceeding $3 a gallon before even reaching the wholesale level, it “doesn’t take a genius” to expect retail prices to hit $4 a gallon soon.
“Consumers haven’t seen the worst of it yet,” Brockwell said.
Well, Pete sure is riled up by the goings on in Louisiana and Alabama…
I don’t think we should be blaming Bush or God, or whoever Pete is after for this one. Let’s be practical!
We should just just invade France. They are the ones who sold us the place! They are the ones would build New Orleans below the sea level for crying out load, not us. Let’s invade! Weve been there before and I here they haven’t done anything with the place except put up a Disney Park since we were there.
Okay, just kidding, thought everyone would like the distraction from Reverend Pete.
Iron Mike –
Aaah, yes … lets be practical. Well, we are certainly in a fix. I have a suggestion. We could claim ignorance about what the French were telling us when we had decided to attack Iraq, instead of continuing the inspections. I don’t think that will work.
My opinoin, is that Bush had opened up this doorway of intense critical review. Bush early on suggested that He was a “God.” That is not a good idea. Lets just admit it, Bush doesn’t have all his marbles, he is not a good speaker, he lacks intelligence (not the CIA). Bush tries to cover-up for his mistakes with hotter and hotter fires. Our country is reeling from this … we have lost trillions. We are now a country with the greatest level of debt when compared to GNP. If every person were to pay what we now owe to ourselves in a National Debit to the US Treasury, that would be a whopping $127,000.00 per person.
Bush is not a fiscal conservative by any measure. He has drawn us into a trap, fiscally. His ideas have greatly failed.
I could take the viewpoint to not cast blame on all the Republicans, however, when you stand by and defend his actions, then we will remind you of the comparisons to others who never took such risks.
People are dying in our country now. I really think we need to Impeach him and begin with a new vision, unless we just want to continue burning the fossil fuel and want to see the rest of the country become a third world nation.
I still have some hope for you Republicans, but my patience is growing thinner and thin.
Start thinking about what is best for the country, rather than just pressuring others in your failed agenda. Start thinking globally, rather than just from your little box. The world will not always be so forgiving. I am certain that other countries around the world are awaiting to see the United States awaken from their 5 year sleep.
GOD BLESS THOSE WHO ARE AWAKENING TO A NEW LEADERSHIP

I don’t care what anyone says, “I am absolutely sure that GOD has sent the world another message to President Bush … GET THE HELL OUT !!!”
Peter,
I am impressed that you can google the first amendment. I have news for you, though. As much as the govs don’t have the programming capability to block you, yet, your free speech does not apply here. This is a privately owned and maintained site and they can supress anyone’s speech. That has been tested all the way to the supreme court. What you do would fall under a “heckler’s veto.” Please read on: (apologies for the long post but since Peter/Michelle post entire articles I felt compelled to respond.)
This is called a ?heckler?s veto.? The problem with it is that, far from advancing understanding, it inhibits it. Freedom of speech was guaranteed in the First Amendment so that a full range of ideas would be available on matters of public interest. The Supreme Court’s interpretation of the First Amendment as it pertains to public college campuses over the past 80-90 years is derived in part from J.S. Mill?s essay, ?On Liberty,? in which he asserted that:
?? the peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error.?
Students are not allowed to drown out the lectures of a professor in the classroom without disciplinary action because doing so disrupts the school?s academic purpose. Guest speakers are allowed on campus in order to offer different and broader perspectives, thereby addressing the school?s purpose. So student speech that would drown out a controversial guest therefore can be prohibited.
All you keep trying to do is shout down the intent of this website which is, surevey says, COLORADO POLITICS!
First get a clue, then get a life, will you?
LALady,
My money (now) and my time (later) will both be heading towards Louisiana and the rest of the Gulf Coast areas hit by Katrina.
This shouldn’t be a partisan issue – everyone should be reaching out to the folks in need down there. I don’t usually surf over to LGF, but I notice that like DailyKOS, they’re promoting the charity links today. It doesn’t take a political party to do what’s right.
While it’s tempting to point the blame at the White House for cutting levee construction funds or slow reactions, I think this issue right now calls for focus on fixing the problems at-hand. There are enough other issues the President and GOP Congress will be answering for, and the time for analysis on crisis response will come soon enough… It’s time to help our fellow Americans.
Phoenix,
I like how you don’t want to blame the WH for Katrina, but you mention two areas that you would blame the WH for if you were to do so. That is a tacky way to lay blame in the same sentence where you say that you will not lay blame.
Lets face it, what are the chances that Bush asked Congress to specifically cut levee construction funds? Especially since it is the House’s responsibility to initiate spending, not the WH.
As for the slow response, that is just simply a lie. Bush signed emergency declarations as soon as legally possible and had FEMA on the move as the hurricanes were happening.
Your argument holds no water and to bring it up in this time of crisis shows poor character on your part.
Of course Katrina is the fault of the White House. Everybody knows that W wasn’t smart enough to come up with it himself, so he had Karl rove design it. Dick Cheney sold some shares of Haliburton to fund it.
Tacky phoenix.
Like I said – accountability is over.
Thats right Marshall. There is no need to accountable. Lets just sit at our computers, cry about what victims we are, whine and plea for more government hand outs and blame the all powerful W that our lives suck.
freak.
Keith don’t give me that, the young democrats are going to be doing the kidney walk on Sept. 18th.
http://www.justgiving.com/pfp/jeffcoyoungdems
I retract the “freak”. Sorry. I’m just frustrated that some liberals try to pin every ill on W when we all know that can’t be possible.
The idiot box is showing real people in real trouble and I guess I’m a little frustrated. I think I’ll go send a little money, and get away from the Bush rants.
Again, I’m sorry.
Marshall talks about accountability, but he doesn’t know what he is talking about.
How can a guy who supports accountability be for all of the government social programs that give money to people who have no personal responsibility or accountability for there actions?
Well, okay – I guess I was wrong. It appears that The Media have declared criticism to be “on the table” for discussion after all.
Credit Bush for at least half a success; things would have been even worse had he not declared the Gulf Coast a pre-emptive disaster area. That declaration got food and other supplies heading in the right direction to arrive when needed. It’s too bad he didn’t get the Guard mobilized at the same time, though.
Please consider donating to The Red Cross or other organization (link to a DailyKOS story with a lot of good charity links…). And also consider finding a group to take some time with Habitat for Humanity there or elsewhere where hurricane rebuilding is needed.
Phoenix,
Just like a good liberal you are waiting to the media to tell you what to think. Good job. As for the Guard, the Governors of the respective states have to mobilize the guard for natural disasters, riots, and other activities within the state. The Pentagon activates them for activities outside the country.
Politics aside, I think it is a great opportunity to give to charity in an effort to help those in need. Please only give to well recognized charities as some people will unfortunately take advantage of the situation for their own personal gain.
Keith,
I am a freak so no offense; who at 25 cares this much about politics? No apology necessary, I respect you a lot, I definitely need to take it down a notch (Peter are you listening). Politics really should take a sideline. Little more prayer, a lot less bickering.
Jonathan, all I’m hearing is “attack, attack, attack”. I posted earlier and said we needed to work on relief now and analysis later; I was noting that I was overruled. Jeesh! Heaven forbid a “liberal” say anything about the media, or helping people, or, well – anything.
There is some question about the Guard in this case; there are a lot of activated Guard units in preparation for a trip to Iraq. These units have technically been Federalized, so it is unsure whether the Governors can do the ordering about…
I’ll back you on the warning: donate to an organization you know. If you don’t want to donate to the ARC, then try your favorite religious establishment’s relief fund if they have one. Or just follow the FEMA link that the Dead Govs have just put up. I’ve heard that Americans have already donated $27 million; much more than that will be needed in the weeks ahead.
Hugo –
I welcome the opportunity to meet you in a court of law, with all the press and media watching. I have pleanty to say, “and, I will not have my freedom of speech taken away from me. If you think I am after having this website shut-down, you are far from the truth. You have no right to limit my freedom on this website. If you want to place a statement that says “NO LIBERAL STATEMENTS ALLOWED,” then you may keep me out. However, the 1st Amendment has no such limits on the rights of my opinion on your website, as it currently stands. Your attempt to control society, its freedom of speech is against the law, our US Constitutional Law. I would love to see you in court any day of the week over this issue.”
GOOD LUCK !!!
Peter- get a job or your own website and quit trying to take over this one. Or here is an idea – how about a life? Everyone is tired of hearing from you.
I am just thrilled at your responses!!! Your rhetoric just provides more and more examples of your continued damage and desire to keep the “truth” about your misguided views. Did you know that nurses in a hospital in downtown New Orleans are giving IV’s to their own nurses? They have not seen and army, national guard, marines with food or water. They are absolutely despriate … and, the nurse has made statements on national radio, that many many patients have died because they simply don’t have any more drugs to give them? The doctors are falling over without sleep, food or water? It is critical for them!!!
This website is a vehicle to spread true information about what is happening. I have many friends who are Democrats, who stand right by my statements. We have REAL issues that the Republicans are not handling very well. This Administration is not sending the needed help to New Orleans. People are despriate and dying in New Orleans – we simply have much of the needed Army personnel in Iraq. Rather, than attack me with your dispictable words, why not start listening to the truth about your failed GOP Party???
Peter you little coward hiding behind the first admendment.
How about putting up your address and I’ll come over there in an hour and a half with the democratic party in tow and kick your little weasal ass.
