Obama speech open thread

I’m in line up at CSU. The line winds the length of campus, along shields the width of the campus, and then half way back the lengh of campus. The speech starts in 2 hours.

    1. It was shoulder to shoulder people all the way from Bannock to the west steps of the Capitol (that was all the further I could see from my spot), and from 14th Ave to Colfax (again all the area I could see).

Could not have asked for better weather for it!

    1. from the Denver Post

Security officials had to stop screening those in line as the line stretched for 21/2 miles through the campus. About 15 minutes before the event was to begin, they decided to just let the crowds in. It’s not unprecedented for security to let crowds in when the line grows too long, but they keep the unscreened supporters farther back, Obama’s campaign said.

  1. People stood for hours in the wind and were good natured about it.  The crowd conversation more often than not was wondering if Obama could win.  These people are hopeful and fearful all at the same time.  When Obama asked who had early voted, I would estimate it at about half the crowd raised their hands.  The people are so hopeful this time.

  2. It was interesting in that it was not that much of a “vote for me” speech and more about what he’s going to do in office and the large job we all have ahead of ourselves. Yes he brought up some differences, yes he told people to go vote. But that was not the main discussion.

I think he clearly views Colorado as won, as well as the nationwide totals. We all see the same polls so it’s a reasonable assumption. But he’s preparing people for the fact that things won’t be perfect the day he takes office.

    Very good speech.

  3. What would Obama say about the U.S, striking INSIDE Syria today? The people in charge of our military are dangerous motherfuckers and need to be told to stand down.

      1. You mean this story?

        http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27

Working on the Vets for Udall campaign, I got to spend a lot time with 4-tour Army SF intel officer. He told be about the Iranian & Syrian pipelines that smuggle money, arms and fighters into the Eastern and Western Parts of Iraq.

The Iranians actually vary their methods and routes all the time, but the Syrians stick to the same routes, figuring that the US won’t hit them inside of their own country.

        Guess this shows they’re wrong.

Is it dangerous? HELL YES! But so is sticking around Iraq and trying to “build democracy” thru blowing the crap out of everything.  But it is pretty much the tit-for-tat you do with Terrorists.

The Syrian Gov’t knows that they’re there, and not only allows it but funds it. So at some point, the Rangers go in and shut the place down. I’m pretty sure they made off with a ton of intel and evidence, and the best the Syrian gov’t can do is vent some mock outrage over the incident, but dismiss anything found as “rouge elements in the lawless frontier with Iraq.”
