The Bellwether Republican Club of Falcon scores ONLY Debate/Forum between all candidates in CD-5.

( – promoted by DavidThi808)

Rumor is, the October 30th event may be broadcast on local TV.

“The RCF’s unique support to the constituents of Falcon, Colorado Springs, and El Paso County, across party lines, is without precedent in our area.”

CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 5 CANDIDATES

TO PARTICIPATE IN FORUM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE :

FALCON, Colorado – The voting public of Congressional District 5 is invited to attend a candidate forum on Thursday, October 30, at Sand Creek High School, 7005 N. Carefree Circle, Colorado Springs.

From 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Congressman Doug Lamborn (R), Hal Bidlack (D), and Brian Scott (ACP) will respond to approximately 15 questions that address a range of critical national and local issues and concerns. Topics will include but not be limited to the current finance crisis and energy.

Kathy Hare of The New Falcon Herald will act as moderator for the event.

The Republican Club of Falcon has organized this event to provide the constituents of the 5th Congressional District an opportunity to hear the candidates support their positions on issues that concern them.

According to Pat Morgan, current president of The Republican Club of Falcon, the forum will provide a valuable service to the local community.

“The Club’s unique support to the constituents of Falcon, Colorado Springs, and El Paso County, across party lines, is without precedent in our area. We are not hosting this event to push any particular party agenda; it’s our hope that all who attend come away with a better sense of each candidate’s position on several relevant issues. It’s exciting to be able to participate in and support the local election process in such a direct and practical way.”

This forum is one of three such events that the Republican Club of Falcon has hosted and sponsored during 2007 and 2008. This non-profit, political organization was founded to promote conservative ideals such as limited government, excellence in locally controlled education, and secure borders. Even though the Club has a partisan purpose, it has also welcomed the privilege of encouraging voter education for all potential voters through the promotion of events such as candidate forums.

This event has been planned with the cooperation and collaboration of the Committee to Re-Elect Doug Lamborn, the Committee to Elect Hal Bidlack, and the Committee to Elect Brian Scott.

  1. Why am I not on this committee?

Are you involved with the Falcon club, NEWSMAN? Because if so, great job getting all three distinguished candidates together before the election.

I have a great respect for Republicans who have the balls to host a Democrat and a third party candidate in their forum.

    1. I have attended several RCF events, and am very proud of a small hometown club that has been able to do big things.

I know the founding members, and they are all good men and women who I respect.

The amazing thing is this little local club is NOT made up of the big names or the movers and shakers of the EPC Republican party.  They are just a bunch of local community minded regular folks who get things done and don’t care who gets the credit.

How they keep pulling off what others think is impossible comes from there willingness to work with good people from all parties to share a stage, and present all ideas on a fair an equal footing.

They really believe in that in the arena of ideas, that conservative principles will resonate.  They are not afraid to have a fair representation of all ideas for contrast, in fact, they feel they benefit by the contrast.

You got to love a group that walks their talk.

      1. The establishment GOP acted like that.

The Dems are the same way. Nobody wants to have a real debate on even ground because they’re so afraid they might lose if it’s just about ideas.

  2. I read on another thread what sounded like a diss of the Falcon event.

If you prefer another format for debate, that’s fine.

After making sure you were included, I would be very disappointed if you are now saying that the event is any less important because the format is designed to give each and every candidate the same time to give his position on some major important issues, not designed for a shouting match or to allow personal attacks.

Since the questions come from the audience (except the first few obvious questions to get things started), and you agreed to participate knowing and agreeing to the rules, did I read that other blog post the wrong way?

    1. While I don’t disagree that this would have been better if it had been scheduled a week earlier, it is still being held over a week before the election.

Mail in ballots are mostly from party faithful who have their minds made up.

The Republican Club of Falcon had to juggle several things, when a suitable venue was available, when the club members where back from out of state business trips and could do their volunteer jobs, when the moderator was available, and most importantly 3 candidates schedules. (OK 2, you would be there at midnight on Sunday).

Is your cup half empty of half full?

The format is not knock down debate style, I agree.  But please remember, this club had to get 3 candidates from 3 different parties to agree to the rules.  You have nothing to lose. You win just by being included and given equal time to say 10 different ways why you hate the Iraq war, and why the Republicans are wrong on everything. But don’t think the other two did not have some demands and requirements.

The way I heard it, Congressman Lamborn was most agreeable at the pre-debate meeting and agreed with you most of the time. I heard you were happy with the latitude and freedom you would be given, and the rules had more to do with civility than protection of any individual.

      1. .

I would have preferred that this RCF event would have been much sooner.

Congressman Lamborn exercised veto authority over every proposed debate time and format, and used that power to ensure that he only appeared where and when it would not have much effect on informing voters.

Good for his reelection prospects; bad for representative government.

I’m absolutely NOT criticizing RCF —

they’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty.

My digs are at the incumbent Congressman.

Frankly, if RCF had made their forum any more freeform, or confrontational,

the Congressman would have backed out to avoid being put on the spot.

They struck a necessary balance, and I applaud them, with you.

I also regret that it is so late, because I may not survive to participate.

Tomorrow night, there is a possibility that Hal Bidlack is going to reach into my chest cavity,

as in the Indiana Jones film,

and pull out my still-beating heart.

        .

        1. What a visual…. Are cameras allowed?

Thank you for clarifying your statements.  I guess that’s par for the course in a political campaign.  I disagree, but now better understand.

I am glad you see that the guys (and Ladies) over at the RCF went out of their way to include you. That decision wasn’t as universally popular as you might imagine. 😉

Best of Luck in your warm up with Hal.

            1. I wasn’t sure what you meant from the tone of your post.  I see your position as an opposition candidate, but was surprised with what I read.  I appreciate your explanation and your recognition of the RCF’s role, in pulling off a balancing act that gained the trust of an incumbent congressman, as well as 2 candidates from opposition parties. That is no small task.

The RCF has worked hard to earn its communities trust. I look forward to watching this event.

              Pat Morgan said it best:

Even though the Club has a partisan purpose, it has also welcomed the privilege of encouraging voter education for all potential voters through the promotion of events such as candidate forums.

              1. One forum for County Commissioner District 2, and another for the candidates of House District 15.  Both events went well and all parties involved (including the Democrat running for HD15) thought that the RCF did a great job.

                And I agree.

They do a good job of leaving partisanship at the door when the candidates arrive to get on the stage.
