Meet the press has Powell giving a well thought at discussion of why he supports Obama. In particular he talks about the narrowing of the party, the marginal issues that the McSame campaign has focused on, and McSame’s inability to figure out what to do about the economy. Analysts saying that this is powerful and indicative of the implosion of the Republican party.

What an amazing endorsement! He clearly pointed out the Republican Party is now the Anti-American Party. He clearly said they have gone too far in their “narrowness”. I read that as hatred of America.
I find it interesting how fast Repubs ask, “Why does Michelle, Democrats, etc, hate America,” The real question is why do the Repubs hate America. The real America, not the Norman Rockwell painting Repubs want to believe is America.
They hate America because they hate Americans who are Muslim, they hate Americans who are Black, they hate Americans who are gays, they hate Americans who live in big cities, and they hate Americans that are educated in our “fancy” universities. Where does the hate stop?
The only love they have for America is small town hockey moms, NASCAR dads, the Religious Right and hunters. A very “narrow” view of the country our Founding Fathers had envisioned.
Powell spoke elegantly about Palin and her lack ability to be the next President and John McCain’s judgment in choosing her. He then, with great concern, spoke about the robo calls going to millions of Americans accusing Barack of being a terrorist.
Then praising Barack’s intellectual curiosity and John McCain’s apparent lack of understanding of the financial crisis, this to me was classic.
The endorsement was powerful!
I also beleive that Powell wished that this was not a path, his friend john McCain would have taken. Powell appears to believe that this was not something McCain would have done if left to his own decisions.
The Republican Party is so out of touch, they are the party of what America hopes never to be. Hateful and Narrow.
Very well reasoned.
…3 cheers for Powell to choose this forum to bring some common sense and decency to the issue and to challenge the anti-Muslim hysteria (and accompanying racial profiling) at work in this country.
So what if he was Muslim? I don’t think he is, but I just don’t care.
Stupid.
He’s a decent family man,
Wait, what? I guess all arab men are monsters towards their families.
Not a slight on John McCain, just a symptom of what you guys are talking about.
