Bob Beauprez Trying to Help?

First I’m trying to think of a suitable analogy of using Bob Beauprez as the voice of an “information campaign”. Polling showed him losing the Catholic vote by a 20% margin when he ran in 2006. So why would a push poll/promotional for the website Catholic Answer Action use him of all people? Why not generic voice man?

I’m afraid I cannot give you much meat on the call itself. Apparently their system is not set up to handle mobile phones or is just incompetently set up. The phone call came during the debates. I thought, “800-222-1111? I wonder if that’s some sort of polling organization?” Picking up I found Beauprez saying stuff about election, will you take our poll, Catholic voters, etc. I was going to take it for grins and giggle to see what it would do, but then it started repeating itself.

Really I cannot imagine this doing any good. Every inflexible pro-life catholic is already voting for McCain, I’m sure. And what are they doing, just calling random numbers hoping to get a Catholic on the line? Because it’s that or something more slimy like going through the catechism records of the Catholic Church in Colorado. (I was a Catholic in my youth, but due to profound theological disagreements as well as being gay I left the RCC in 1998.)

What the heck are they thinking?

    1. It seems odd that it would be random. Wouldn’t hearing from the hard right Catholics for Republicans turn off all the random protestants, jews, and atheists who got called?

The organization name was different than what you stated, so maybe there are a couple of different groups he’s working for.

Anyway, he asked me to check out the organization’s website, which I did.

A lot of standard Catholic stuff.

But what stood out is that they supported the GOP candidate in every race, even when there was a Catholic or committed Christian running for a 3rd party.

I understand why you might think that Catholics are lined up for McCain.  But it’s just not true.  Like Lamborn, he’s 60% Pro-life, not 100%.

Catholics have 2 good choices for President, Chuck Baldwin and Alan Keyes.  But you’d never know that from this organization.

They claim to be non-partisan, but it just isn’t so.

A Catholic voting for McCain is choosing the lesser of 2 evils.  If there were only those 2 choices, evil and slightly less evil, that vote would be more understandable.  But that’s not the case.

Looks like it was “Informed Catholic Citizens.” http://www.InformedCatholics.org.

I was looking to see if the Catholic running for CD-5, who uses my name, was their first choice.  When I saw that I wasn’t even listed, I emailed them and asked “Wazzup ?”

They told me that they didn’t consider 3rd party candidates to be serious candidates.

So, these “informed Catholics” are intentionally keeping the folks they reach out to uninformed.

Don’t want any conservative votes wasted on someone who doesn’t have a chance, even if their platform, party and personal convictions align with Church teachings, lest the greater of 2 evils wins.

        1. I probably just got the name wrong in my post. I am trying to figure out how I could learn more about how they got a list of who to call since I do not think there would be any way to get my phone number, it being a mobile phone.

  2. I am a practicing Catholic, and also got that robo-call.  I hung up fairly quickly.  Wondered if the call was targeted or just random, and if it were targeted, how the orgaization got my number as a catholic.  I suspect (am extremely annoyed) at the dioscese gave them my number.

As an organization, the US Catholic church is definitely pro-GOP, but rank and file membership is pretty evenly split between the two parties.
