"Boots On The Boulevard 3.0" Dominates Wadsworth--Again

If you live just about anywhere in suburban Jefferson County, it was hard to miss the latest miles-long visibility effort yesterday afternoon from supporters of the recall election underway against the right-wing majority on the Jefferson County school board. For the third time since the new board majority was elected, a massive “Boots on the Boulevard” protest lined the county’s busiest surface street, Wadsworth Boulevard, with thousands of students, parents, and teachers–this time armed with a specific message (recall) and a “Clean Slate” of replacement candidates whose names were on every corner.

Surprisingly, there has been no press coverage of yesterday’s demonstration that we can find in any local outlet. That’s not easy to explain, but given the enormous numbers of Jeffco voters who saw these demonstrators along Wadsworth yesterday…maybe it doesn’t matter if the media decides to ignore them. In lieu of responsible press coverage, we’ve assembled some photos and video of yesterday’s event for posterity from social media:

    1. Still, if it had been a few dozen gun nuts or anti-choice protesters or supporters of bakers who don't want to bake for gays it would have been covered.

    1. Last year at this time Andrew Carnegie was posting stats each day on the # of ballots returned by Dems, Repubes and indies. Wonder why he isn't performing that vital public service this election cycle?

      1. Our old buddy Lynn Bartels is updating us on how County Clerks are making it easier to return voted ballots. Please don't tell Marilyn Marks about this!

Here's another one she wrote with (presumably) a straight face: Cory Gardner is "our environmentalist". At least as far as CACI is concerned. But then, CACI's very name inspires a gag reflex.

And here's a story Bartels didn't cover – EPCO councilwoman Helen Collins had to revise her anti- tax increase ads after a lawyer for the pro-tax, pro-fixing the roads group advised her that it was illegal to lie in a public broadcast.  Pols readers got smarter about that battle a week or so ago – but I'm shickled titless that Collins has to spend $100K revising her preposterous ad campaign. Carno, better hit AFP up for more moolah.

          1.                                                        bad

Bartels was nothing more than a    ^    gossip columnist.

      2. That was fun, wasn't it?

I tend to concentrate on Federal offices, not school boards.

A year from now I will be glad to share more good news with you.

  1. I certainly saw it as I headed out from work.

The anti-recall folks are spending money, but I'm not sure it has the same impact as Boots on the Boulevard. The right-wing sites are also spending a lot of time deflecting and distorting. Saw one reposted on FB tonight that said that 9News was reporting that the recall was about union power… I guess you'll get out of a newscast whatever you want to hear.

    1. My husband recently saw quantities of pro-recall yard signs all over the place in an affluent Jeffco neighborhood he was passing through with just a lonely couple of signs opposing. Lots of pissed off parents who obviously have no connection to or any particular love for any union.

    1. The same "bullies" who used Randy Williams for their propaganda purposes? Oh wait a minute….it couldn't be since it was Mommy Dearest who dragged him into her campaign.

  2. If you watch Mrs. Newkirk's ad all the way through, your irony meter will overload. She's posted  status of two PTA members who tweeted about "cleaning guns" and "teach me to shoot".

Now, if a member of the anti-recall forces, like Julie Williams' brother in law, RMGO's minion Tim Neville, had similarly bragged about cleaning guns and teaching someone to shoot, it would have been a joyful, celebrating-the-second-amendment occasion. But because the quoted PTA members are presumably pro-recall, the gun talk becomes a dark and sinister threat, prompting Mrs. and Mr. Newkirk to move their daughter to a new school.

As far as graffitti on the school, most custodial staff removes that within hours of spotting it, so I doubt the Newkirk kiddo ever saw it.  In fact, Mrs. Newkirk says as much in the video. It's just more of working the pity-party, we-are-the-real-victims here angle, since they refuse to discuss anti-LGBT bias, misuse of funds, secret meetings, religious conservative tweaking of AP curricula, union-bashing, or any of the other real reasons for the recall.
