Jake Jabs - wrong on 47, wrong for Colorado

As we’re discussing in another diary Jake Jabs of American Furniture Warehouse is now pitching Amendment 47.  Just like the very text of the amendment, he’s flat out lying about the current status of employment law and what Amendment 47 would do.  As I wrote and documented state and federal law before, no one in Colorado is required to join a union.  Amendment 47 would simple allow current non-union members working for all-union employers to not pay any dues.  However, the hands of these unions would be tied and they would be forced to still bargain and file grievances for them.

So, I thought I’d modify one of his commercials to be a little more accurate.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, last year Colorado’s population had 8.7% union members.  The percentage of employees represented by unions is 9.2%.  That difference of half a percent are the non-union members getting union representation.  That’s right, Amendment 47, only deals with 0.5% of Colorado’s population.  What are they trying to do this again?

Disclosure:  I’m working for Coloradans for Middle Class Relief because I believe this risky amendment is bad for Colorado’s economy.
