Neville Rallies GOP Base Against Planned Parenthood

Sen. Tim Neville.
Sen. Tim Neville.

A strongly-worded letter sent to Colorado GOP Reps. Scott Tipton, Doug Lamborn, and Mike Coffman today urges them to resist any attempt to preserve funding for Planned Parenthood–implicitly giving them cover to shut down the government in order to force the Obama administration to the bargaining table. Excerpts:

As members of the governed, we are asking you to put politics aside and focus on the unalienable right to Life. Today, 3000 unborn babies will die due to the butchering effects of abortion. At conception, they are American citizens that require their life to be protected by our government. We ask that you focus on those children and remind yourself of the evil you have witnessed in the ten undercover videos to date.

Therefore, we write to you with great urgency concerning the upcoming Continuing Resolution which includes continued funding for Planned Parenthood Federation of America. As you may be aware, Planned Parenthood performed 327,000 abortions in the last year and has been the subject of many unspeakable undercover videos displaying the sale of fetal body parts for profit. Last year alone, Planned Parenthood received $528 million in taxpayer dollars.

As constituents and leaders in the conservative movement and Republican Party in the state of Colorado, we urge you to stand up for the rights of the preborn, to stand up to our pro-abortion president, and to sign the Mulvaney letter, committing to fully defund Planned Parenthood and oppose any continuing resolution that does not.

Congress must act now with the full power of the purse, draw a line in the sand, and let the Democrats in Congress and President Obama explain to the American people why our tax dollars go to support an organization that will commit more than 70,000 abortions between now and December 11 and deals in trafficking fetal body parts. We cannot, as conservatives and Republicans, allow the President to force our hands and accept continued government funding of abortions in the name of ‘getting something done’ or ‘woman’s health care’.

The letter is signed first and foremost by U.S. Senate candidate Tim Neville and his son Colorado Rep. Patrick Neville. From there, it’s a who’s-who of Colorado Republican Party county chairs, local talk-radio hosts, and grassroots activists.

Because recent events have significantly reduced the threat of a shutdown, with a vote on a continuing resolution to fund the government until December coming later today, this letter underscores Neville’s position as a grassroots leader whose positions naturally align with that of the GOP rank-and-file. John Boehner’s decision to fall on his sword has only delayed the confrontation over Planned Parenthood’s funding until December, after all–and between now and then, Neville can use language like what you read above to whip the Republican base into a heady froth. By December’s vote on the next continuing resolution, Neville will be in a prime position to either triangulate off backsliding Republicans, or take credit for their actions if the government shuts down.

Either way, Neville is rocking the cradle that rules the world. And the 2016 GOP Senate primary.

  1. That Timmy.  Glad to see him go all "Neville" this early in the campaign.  No need to thank me for introducing this new term for full obtuse political folly.

With polls showing about a 2 to 1 ratio of support for Planned Parenthood, this is exactly the kind of advice that Mike Coffman needs to follow for his 2016 campaign to show the Republican faithful that he is in tune with their concerns and to hell with the rest of the electorate.  Woohoo!  2016 is going to be some kind of fun with Timmy going Neville on all issues all the time.

  2. Tim Neville is a truly disgusting slough of misspent protoplasm . . .

. . . having said that, I think I would be remiss not to note that Planned Parenthood froth-whipping appears to have become an all consuming obsession at both ends of the spectrum of late, no?

Not saying Neville's position shouldn't be reported, and criticized — just suggesting that there might be one, or possibly two, other issues the Colorado electorate might find important to their lives???

But then, maybe recent history has shown that this is the only issue Senate voters are concerned about??? . . .

  3. I am officially fed up with this bullshit:

At conception, they are American citizens that require their life to be protected by our government.

When will Timmay start pushing to prosecute women for child neglect when they have a miscarriage? Those women led to the "death" of an "American citizen", right?

A man in a family that abhors the idea of sexual education in schools wants to celebrate the day people were conceived? How does that work? Instead of "Mom, tell me about the day I was born," it should be "Mom, tell me about how I was conceived"? That's weird.

I'm tired of people Nevilling all over abortion.

    1. The Neville way is to refuse to believe in Evolution, Climate Change or that gun violence kills innocent people but accept as the really real reality that their little egos will live on FOREVER in a location that has never been seen or proven to exist and that a sentient being exists the moment a sperm penetrates the egg.  No wonder liberals can't communicate with these folks.  We don't inhabit the same universe as they do.  They live in a magical world where their guns are their God and they can decide the fates of others without any consideration of the circumstances.

      1. This is why it is impossible to have a decent conversation with anti-abortion people. They have successfully changed the terminology so that it is impossible to talk about the merits of legislating access to abortion because, to them, abortion is "baby killing".

They have already lost the argument about using government to ban abortions so they've decided to change the rules and terminology so they can win. It's like someone who can't win at rock, paper, scissor so they decide their rock is a nuclear bomb that always wins. Saying that life begins at conception is like cheating at rock, paper, scissor.

        1. "they've decided to change the rules and terminology so they can win……"  No shit, sherlock.

I believe there is a strong conspiracy afoot in the land for several years now driven by the group Americans United for Life and its fellow travelers from the religious right. They can't overturn Roe v. Wade or Griswold v. Connecticut. So, they nibble around the edges with junk science, like hallway width, aimed at closing down abortion clinics. They attack contraception by labeling IUDs as abortifacients and trying to label the Pill as a killer of women (what medication, even over-the-counter, doesn't have some side-effects?). The general belief is that women aren't intelligent enough to make their own decisions on reproduction and health care, so big government, powered by big religion, must make these decisions for them.

As for the notion that human life begins at conception, the only way to confirm or deny that is to have every woman of child-bearing age to report for an exam immediately after having sex.

          1. Oooh. I like the idea of promoting government mandated post-coital exams. It just might be more ridiculous than the idea of citizenship at conception. Although coming up with things that are more ridiculous than a Neville thought is challenging.

          2. And while we battle over language we let them distract from the real failure of their zealotry.   They offer no viable alternative to providing all women access to affordable healthcare.  Not a word.  They also get away with framing the gun regulation debate in terms of their FREEDOMS but never talk about having the people who use all these guns pay for cleaning up the carnage.  He wants all other groups to pay for their costs on society but gun owners are exempt from any user fees to pay for the funerals and cleaning up the whether from homicide or suicide.  The real issue here that is never addressed to them is what is their alternative to Planned Parenthood that isn't the same as expanding Medicare?

            1. You're wrong about the lack of an alternative to safe abortions.. The conservative alternative to legal and safe abortions is the coat hanger. The conservative view is that women, forced into illegal abortions, should risk death as a result.

              1. I'm not talking about abortion services MapMaker.  What about all the other health care services that Planned Parenthood provides to women?  How do they plan to replace those services when they cut off ALL of the funding for Planned Parenthood.  Just assume that Planned Parenthood will magically make up the difference and they won't have to spend any taxpayer dollars helping women?  It is exactly like their obsession with repealing the Affordable Care Act but with no realistic replacement.  We shouldn't let Neville or Coffman divert attention from their cruel lack of an alternative to Planned Parenthood.
