I am up in Vail for a weekend break and asked our waitress at lunch and waiter at work Obama or McCain.
1) Our waitress said she was still undecided but that Palin scared her and so would probably vote for Obama.
2) Our waiter said he was undecided but wanted the candidate that would pay attention to the little guy and so probably Obama.
These were both pre-debate but I think both will be Obama votes so that’s 2:0 among undecideds.
What was also interesting was that both had very valid reasons for their votes and talked for a couple of minutes about them. These are not which giy do I like better voters – these are people that have legit criteria and are intelligently comparing the candidates.
I’d say that is a good sign.
These youths often fail to follow through. Hope this year will be different.
…when I asked if they were going to vote gave me a very strong yes. The woman was proabably mid 20s and the guy early 40s. What’s interesting is neither of them was terribly political, but they still had strong opinions and were clearly taking the responsibility to vote seriously and realize it matters.

But the waitress listed out a number of Palin’s political views and why they would be bad for the country. She also listed a couple of reasons why Palin was not qualified.

Dino Rossi (yes, that’s his real name) is describing himself on the general election ballot for WA governor as “prefers GOP party.” As Rachel Maddow pointed out, if you spell out the acronym it’s “prefers grand old party party,” which is just stupid. But apparently even 18% of Republicans don’t know what the “GOP party” is, and that level of ignorance is what Rossi is counting on.
I know a woman (family “friend”) running for the state legislature up there under the “GOP Party” banner. The district is reasonably Dem leaning but she ran even w/ the Dem candidate in the primary and is convinced it’s because she’s never had to call herself a Repub…

Didn’t we taxpayers just have to lay out 85 billion dollars to bail out the largest U. S. insurance company in AIG? I believe the R’s are just posturing for their lobbyist buddies. Eighteen days. The dude didn’t even make it three weeks.

He keeps repeating the same phrases (“I’m a Teddy Roosevelt Republican” three times). It’s sad when the short-attention-span media looks at that and says, “Well, he did make a really strong case about being a Teddy Roosevelt Republican.”
He denies that he refused to look at Obama during the debate. (Glad Stephanopoulos asked the question, but he did let him off the hook a little too quickly.)
Desperately trying to defend Palin, who told someone in a Philadelphia bar that she agreed with Obama’s and not McCain’s position on Pakistan. (“Shouldn’t put a microphone in during a private conversation…”)
Registrations are running 2:1 in favor of Democrats, that’s for all age groups. The Indies are slightly below the Pubs, so we can probably count more Indies leaning Dem, based on recent polling.
Back in the primaries, the “youth vote” increased 50% over the previous election. And that’s w/o Hillary or Obama campaigning here.
The campus’ are abuzz with the excitement. Michelle O. and Jill B. were greeted with excitement yesterday at (I forget which) FL campus.
Maybe this will be the election where “the youth” finally get out and vote. And it might flip Obama into the White House.

His name was not even mentioned by D’s or R’s at the bailout compromise press conference. Come on Republicans, can’t you at least acknowledge he is in town? Knight in shining armor swooping in to save the world just turned into Alonso Quixano, alone in a room, mumbling to himself in the dark.
Stephanopoulos asked him what he did, and he was pretty humble about it.
Then he ran an ad twice during that show claiming that McCain and the House Republicans saved the day, and Democrats had nothing to do with it. HUH…?
had no trouble giving credit to McCain for getting everyone back to the table. One of the few things they’ve done right lately. It all came off as very diplomatic.
It’s interesting, if you measure by yard signs this is Republican country. The only Dem with an occasional sign is Udall. No Obama, no Scanlan, maybe some of the county commissioner ones are Dem.
At the main intersection in Edwards there is a Schaffer & Udall sign side by side – I thought that was neat. Same size, same positioning.
But when I talk to people here, it’s Dem or independent leaning Dem. But I mostly talk to people who are working, not others vacationing. So that is skewed. But for those with regular jobs here, they appear to be Dem.
ps – If anyone knows how to get ahold of Christine Scanlan, let her know that email to any address on her website bounces. I called the number but just got voicemail.

It was bad enough that the McCain campaign paraded the unwedded and pregnant couple around the RNC, but now they’re planning on exploiting the marriage ceremony of Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston.
crap, who am I kidding, of course it will.
Actually it might turn off some of the ex-Hillary supporters. I think one of the only things more irresponsible than getting pregnant at 17 is getting married at 17.
is that the McCain campaign thinks it’s a good idea to “shut down the race for a wekk.” It’s a great idea alright… for Obama!
Anyone else watching the game? Cutler has thrown a couple of picks and our defense is painful to watch. This game shouldn’t be close and the Chiefs certainly should not be winning going in the 4th!
1) Schaffer and Udall debate on Meet the Press – not the best representation of the state of Colorado. I was made to feel somewhat embarrassed and uncomfortable by this performance. I think Udall looked slightly weak, although attempted to be thoughtful and intellectual. Schaffer looked like a pompous wind bag. He started out with substantive comments and made a few initial good points, but then he turned me off due to his rudeness and shrill bickering. Overall, i don’t think progress was made one way or another, which is probably slightly better for the trailing Schaffer. (Score 0 Schaffer,0 Udall)
2) Betsey Markey on Your Show on 9News – this lady knows her stuff and is well spoken and practical. She offered a great defense to Musgrave’s latest attacks on her. Markey was much more lively than Musgrave who appeared on the show last weekend. She also seemed to have a much better grasp of the issues and was much more positive in her responses (Score +1 point Markey).
3) Obama and McCain and their somewhat boring, anticlimactic debate – mostly a tie, although I think that in this case the tie has to go to Obama. Having said that, I think McCain did much better than I thought he would, although he was a bit grouchy and unfriendly. Obama was thoughtful and intellectual, but missed some opportunities to hammer home his points. Neither one engaged in much actual debate, but Obama did hit McCain hard on his being wrong in terms of the Iraq War. (Score + 1/2 point Obama)
