Obama bounces back, McCain in the tank

Last week was a heady time for the brave Republicans that post on Colorado Pols.

Diaries and comments from the GOP-inclined multiplied like toxic spills in Garfield County, declaring that Obama was all but over, that Palin was the electoral savior, that all was RIGHT in the world again.

Oh, but what a difference a week makes.

The Palin bounce is gone, and McCain is dropping faster in the polls than a 401(k).

US News & World Reports notes, today :

Five national polls are out in the latest news cycle show, and they paint a picture of an Obama rally he holds leads in four of them. A CBS News Poll of 1004 registered voters, conducted over September 12-16 shows 48% of registered voters would vote for Sen. Barack Obama; 43% would vote for Sen. John McCain. Among likely voters, Obama also had a five point lead, 49%-44%.

The R2K poll, on Daily Kos, puts Obama up by 6 points in national polling.

A plethora of state battleground polls yesterday shows definite movement in Obama’s direction, and fivethirtyeight.com shows pickups in the Electoral vote toward Obama.

The McCain/Palin ‘townhall’ is playing to mixed reviews, although Gov. Palin’s snide remarks refusing to discuss any of her qualifications is not playing well in the press.

ABC reports:

But Palin did not list specific skills, instead giving a broad response while saying she would be happy to play “stump the candidate” on foreign policy issues.

“I think because I am a Washington outsider that opponents are going to be looking for a whole lot of things that they can criticize and they can kind of beat the candidate here who chose me as his partner to kinda tear down the ticket,” Palin responded. “But as for foreign policy you know I think I am prepared and I know that on Jan. 20 if we are so blessed as to be sworn into office as your president and vice-president, certainly we’ll be ready. I’ll be ready. I have that confidence. I have that readiness and if you want specifics with specific policy or countries go ahead. You can ask you can play stump the candidate if you want to. But we are ready to serve.”

The Palin bounce is over.  Voters recognize Obama as the candidate of change, and McCain cannot shake the reality of being in bed with BushCo.

Sure, October can bring many surprises.  And as the past two weeks have shown, the polls are volatile.  Still the news is not good for McCain, as he goes down in flames.

  1. I would be trying to get some sort of bill passed in the Senate before they leave for vacation.

Of course, nothing will pass, but it would show he tried to do something.
