Probably a lot of yall have seen this but its interesting that Obama’s numbers are better in CO post-convention and worse in most other states.

“John McCain gained a little ground nationally during the convention season this year, but in the state that hosted the Democratic National Convention Barack Obama inched ahead. The latest Fox News/Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Colorado shows Obama attracting 49% of the vote while McCain earns 46%”

    1. And  the campaign  has an incredible voter registration drive and ground game in general, no doubt given a boost by the the fact that the Obama campaign uses these big crowds not just by adding them to their e-mail and text lists but by putting them to work on the spot.  There was a lot of time to kill for those who came early and ops for them to spend that time phone banking.

        1. The last two elections we had Lurch and Al Snore (no disrespect, just not exactly people who got the youth vote excited) I think that might change this year.

        2. had an enormous increase in under 35s attending caucus which is way more of a commitment than voting so I think we’ll have a significant increase in the election, too.

        3. like it or not, the young voters get registered and then don’t show up.  And the Repubs GOTV efforts are historically better than the Dems.  The Obama folks need to work hard to turn out the young.

  1. After reading about McCain and his plan to spend more money on arms – I realize that Obama is the only chance we have as a country to disarm.

I appreciated that Obama would not commit to going after Iran militarily if Iran pursued nukes.  We as a nation should lead by example.  How can we expect Iran to not pursue nuclear weapons when America has nukes?

Obama and his team are the ones who will be able to negotiate peace in this world.  Imagine how much money we can save by dismantling our military.

We will study war no more!

    1. if you are a real person, and you actually believe this crap, or if you’re just trying to make the rest of us look bad.

And is dismantling the military what you would call a “middle of the road” view? Because I would call that nutcase left wing.

      1. Do you have any clue how much money is wasted on the military?  I can’t believe that you don’t realize how much money and effort we waste raiding Iraq, Afganistan, etc.

When have we as a country ever just tried to sit down and talk with these people?  They have children.  They bleed red blood too.

I think that a caring leader like Obama can help them understand that we are no threat.  The reason we are viewed so negatively throughout the world is BECAUSE we are perceived as a THREAT!!!

When we stop bullying the rest of the world – I think we will see peace.  Obama is the only leader so far that recognizes this.

          1. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” – Senator Obama speaking in COS

            1. I don’t think pursuing peace is an extreme position to take.  War:  Now THAT is extreme.

Why is it so extreme to leave people alone Libertine?

              1. Giving workers the protection of choice will make unions stronger and more responsive to their members needs.

It is a lot like giving peace and prosperity a first chance. We first work to assist our enemies in the development of capitalist oriented democracies … they get a taste, like it and thrive.

                1. They aren’t my issue.  But I will remind you that if it weren’t for Unions our children would still be working in sweat shops for a few dollars a day.

It would take every member of the family working just to buy a loaf of bread and put a roof over our heads.

                  NEVER FORGET THAT LIBERTINE!

                  1. Giving workers the protection of choice will make unions stronger and more responsive to their members needs.

Forced membership is well … the communal approach.

        1. instead of tanks, maybe he would have agreed to murder only 5 million Jews. Such a deal you pacifists have.  But as George Orwell said, pacifists purchase their sense of moral superiority with the blood of the brave men and women who are willing to bear arms in the fight against evil.,

          1. And you work in the media?  No wonder our newspapers are in trouble.  Where did you get your sense of justice?

Hitler came out of a world that glorifies military superiority.  We can change that Bob.  Peer pressure is an amazing thing.

Do you actually think Hitler would have made it into power if our world (yes that includes America) hadn’t forced the German people into embracing evil?

If we had the kind of America that Obama invisions – Germans would have never felt the need for a Hitler!!  Hitler didn’t get his power from his weapons – he got it from a people who were desperate.

              1. The people empowered Hitler.  Hitler’s message hit a note with the people because of the threats they felt from America and other nations pursuing war and industrialization!

Think about it Bob.  Don’t just spew your right wing media crap.

                1. You did nothing when he occupied the Rhineland, you gave him Czechoslovakia when he asked for it, when he asked for Poland, even then you thought appeasement would work and your ilk formed the America First Committee to try to keep America silent while evil ruled the world. Thank God and Franklin D. Roosevelt that America finally rose to the challenge after Pearl Harbor.

You dare to blame the deliberate murder of 11 million defenseless people, 6 million of them Jews, on  “America and other nations pursuing war and industrialization!”

I will speak with you no more. You hate America and you hate people who have the guts to stand up against evil.  With enough craven fools like you, Evil will triumph throughout the world.  I am very proud of having borne arms for my country, to ensure that people like you would be free to spew their hate, but trust me, you get a free ride because 58,000 of my comrades paid the supreme price for the freedom you so vilely abuse.

                  1. Look Bob.  I am sorry you are so angry.  I am just saying that if our world weren’t so hostile the people of Germany would never have elected a Hitler to rule them.

Hostility starts and ends with us.  Not you Bob.  All of us share the blame.  Don’t you get it?

Please don’t be angry.  We can be reasonable people.  I know you have it in you to understand.  I don’t mean to offend anyone.

I would never have voted for Hitler.  In my world – people would not have put him in power to begin with.

                    1. You are factually wrong to write “if our world weren’t so hostile the people of Germany would never have elected a Hitler to rule them.”

The people of Germany DID NOT ELECT Hitler. The Nazis and their allies, the Stahlheim (steel helmets) won the largest bloc in the Reichstag but well short of a majority.  They then suckered the other parties into outlawing the Communist Party, and expelling their deputies.  Shorn of the communists, the Nazis did have a majority in the Reichstag. The Nazi Revolution, the Nuremberg laws, World War II and the Holocaust all followed.

So when you say “In my world – people would not have put him (Hitler) in power to begin with.” you ignore the historical reality that in the real world, people exactly like you did put Hitler into power.  For evil to triumph, it is only necessary that people of good will do nothing.

                    2. That lady is either seriously delusion or has been partaking on some pretty impressive smelling salts to believe her BS.

                    3. that Hitler rose to power becauze the Treaty of Versaille forced unattainable reparations on Germany.  It was a setup for further confrontation.

Compare that to the Marshall Plan and the respect that we treated the Germans and Japanese after WWII.

I call myself a 90% pacifist.  I want all diplomatic efforts first, I want to explore non-military solutions, I want a withdrawal of the empire’s military bases, I want only defensive measures if not imminent attack. I recognize, though, that the world is not a Kum-by-ya hand holding one.

But we can do better.  We spend 55-65% of our discretionary budget on war, past, present and future.  Sounds like an addiction to me.

                    4. but that dog won’t hunt either. John Maynard Keynes destroyed its reparations clause with his classic “The economic consequences of the peace.” In the event, American loans to Germany, never repaid, about matched the cash actually paid to the allies by Germany.  Of course, before we responded, they resorted to hyperinflation, destroying the middle class. But it was more the worldwide depression that brought Hitler to power than anything else.  But the point is, no matter how he got there, he would have been toppled if only the French had mobilized when he reoccupied the Rhineland. The German Army was still very weak, and ready, willing and able to stage a coup in response to what they felt was a certain French mobilization.  France stayed silent, England slept, and Hitler triumphed. Failing that, if we had fought at Munich, we could have won the war in about 90 days. (Russia was ready to intervene) Chamberlain caved and millions died needlessly.

Yes, we can do better and I in no way defend the optional war in Iraq, which drains resources from the necessary job of crushing the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.  I’m only about a 45 percent pacifist, but your 90 will do in apinch. But the fact is indisputable that true pacifists purchase their sense of moral superiority with the blood of men and women far braver than they are, just as Orwell said.

                    5. and the rise of Hitler will still be discussed on 11/11/2018.

I heard a quote once, which I could do it verbatim: “You sleep well tonight because course men willing to do violence on others are awake.”  Obviously pre-feminist!

                2. When I read Baldwin’s comment above I did not read anything about our Hebrew brothers and sisters.

Her reference to “disparate people” seemed to me to be the common German collective psyche that gave rise to Hitler.

                  1. The desperation of the German people elected Hitler.  Then their deperation wrongly turned to the despair of the Jewish people.

Hitler was able to transfer the fear of the German people to the persecution of an innocent race.  But it all started with war.

                  2. “Do you actually think Hitler would have made it into power if our world (yes that includes America) hadn’t forced the German people into embracing evil?”

If you share those views, then you are condemned by your own words.

                    1. No Bob.  America is condemned by it’s actions.  We still haven’t learned.  We are in Iraq>>>  Are we not?

                    2. and if I really believed what you said about Obama, I’d vote for my fellow veteran McCain. But as Libertad said, Obama is no pacifist.  It remains to be seen, however, if he really has the backbone to be commander in chief.  My problem with McCain is that he has no plan to erase the Bush deficits that are bankrupting my company.

                    3. A good place to start erasing the deficits is by illiminating the funding for the military.

Obama said he would reduce the funding significantly – not as much as I would like.  We actually need – like zero…

But, I will take the deep cuts that Obama has promised.

                    4. nor should he.  We can, however, reduce the rate of increase _ an action that only Washington calls “cuts”   We most definitely need to spend more, not less, on our national guard and reserve, plus health care beenefits for all our veterans, including the citizen soldiers who serve so well.  Adding a full-strength division to the Army also makes sense, to reduce the demand on the Guard. If I recall, Obama favors such a step as does Mark Udall, to his credit.

                    5. You didn’t watch the Youtube thing I posted did you.  He did promis deep cuts.

But, if it helps you to vote for Obama if he didn’t promise deep cuts…  then ok.

                    6. I kind of think his statements in the Democratic dedates and to the Convention, plus his position papers, count for a bit more than your interpretations of You Tube.

One of the best reasons for dialing back into Iraq is to put the force into Afghanistan than we need to finish killing the real enemies of humankind, the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Iraq was a sideshow and a distraction, it’s as if we had responded to Pearl Harbor by invading Mexico.

    2. War is rarely a good thing. But that does not mean that it should be absolutely ruled out as an option or that we should dismantle our military.

You do Sen. Obama a disservice when you speak of him this way. He is not a fool and he won’t take the option of war off the table unless there is good reason to do so.

      Matthew

      1. That war is not the answer.

I believe him when he says that he will eliminate our nuclear arsenal.  I believe him when he states that he will reduce our military budget substantially.  I believe him when he says that America must take the lead here.

You do him a dissservice when you embrace the military industrial complex.

Of course he is not getting rid of a US security force.  But this is only to enforce peace.

Do we really need long range nukes?

Do we really need weapons that are designed for agression rather then defense?

Why don’t you believe Sen. Obama when he claimed he was going to cut way back on our military?  He may be lying but I believe him.

        1. He does not say anything in the speeches about eliminating the US nuclear arsenal. He said that the wanted to work with Russia towards taking ICBMs of hair trigger alert. E.g. back away from having a quick launch in response to suspected launches by Russia.

I am making that point forcefully because even though you are a troll I don’t want anyone mislead into thinking that Obama is anything like the character you’ve created.

          Matthew

  2. I am curious to see if Rasmussen’s findings are consistent with theirs.  If I’m not mistaken Rasmussen tends to lean a little to the right of Survey USA?  In any case let’s hope Colorado’s numbers continue to swing towards Obama!

    1. I have heard consistently that Colorado is in Obama’s camp from different media sources.  Even Fox News had to admit that Colorado is the only state that has stayed stong for Obama.

This makes sense.  We have Ritter we have the Democratic convention…

And, Colorado tends to lead the nation.  We are in the mainstream and the rest of the country will catch up.

      1. “Colorado tends to lead the nation.”

The rest of the country still thinks this goofy state is full of cowboys.  Flyover country doesn’t “lead” anything, it just hopes not to be left behind.

          1. and I remember people laughing him like he was some sort of flake when he was talking about wind and solar, biomass, and fuel cell technology.  The old “governor moonbeam” thing.

Now you don’t get a major speech from any politician about the future of our country without mentioning those things.  I hate the life cycle of these types of ideas – first its’ just crackpot crazy to everyone but a few scientists, then it’s adopted by the left, then by the democrats, etc.

The republicans dismiss it as pie-in-the-sky nonsense, then dispute the science for years, then finally adopt it “as if we didn’t already know that”.

It’s crazy how stupid we are sometimes.

  3. If Obama didn’t promise to cut military spending by a large amount then I wouldn’t be voting for him.  He wouldn’t be really any different then McCain.

But, he promised to cut the military and if I take him at his word then I must support Obama.

Otherwise my vote will be for a woman.  And the only woman on the ballot is Palin.

I would have to hold my nose for McCain and vote Palin (we need a woman in office).

However, Obama is the only choice that makes sense since he promises to reduce or military.

    1. You’re voting for McCain. You’re no liberal. You’re a conservative trying (ineffectively) to paint liberals as anti-American with your idiotic posts.

      Matthew

        1. You right, I should have used the word caricature instead of character. For that is what you post like. The conservative version of what liberals stand for. Sure, I’ve met a few who were as extreme as you post, but they don’t also make the claim that Obama stands with them. A few of them are sensible enough to say, “Okay, he’s not that liberal, but he’s damn better than the other guy,” but much more typical is the oft repeated claim that McCain and Obama are no different. (To which I laugh and say, “Just like Gore and Bush?”)

And you post links to pro-Iraq war and anti-Obama you tube clips. That’s the most damning part in the proof that you’re really a right wing zealot making this up as you go along.

More subtle is the way that you slip into saying things that are suspect about race. That could be some of your true colors bleeding through or it could be a surprisingly subtle attempt to paint liberals as secretly racist. Design or accident it is one of the more interesting parts of your persona. The way you support Palin without coming right out and supporting her is rather clever as well.

The name is probably made up. There is only one Nancy Balwin in Colorado that I can find. And the only Nancy L Baldwin is a major Republican donor from California.

Still have not figured out where you get your talking points from though.

          Matthew

          1. It is no secret that the Democratic Party has strong holds in racism.  It should be noted that the party of Freedom was started by Abraham Lincoln.

I am not new to pols.  I have been posting a long time.  Just under a diff. handle.

            1. Like Kennedy and Johnson’s Civil Rights Act? Lincoln, a scary trial lawyer, was from IL and would have been a Democrat.

I think your confused about which party has embraced racists like David Duke.

    2. Nice, yes.  I don’t care if the best person is male, female, neutered, or polka dotted.

Said by a father who always encouraged his three daughters to excel and understand that never, ever accept second rate because you are female.

      1. is why did we ever grant men the right to vote?  As long as we have politicians who let the little head do the thinking for the big one, this country is doomed.

My late grandmother Nellie Anderson could have balanced the budget, won the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, established a resonsible national health care program and still had enough time left in the day to put fresh home-=made breead on the table.

On the whole women, Nancy the Troll and Sarah Palin excepted, are much smarter than men about politics.

      2. …seeing a real live woman in the Oval Office to give reality to the fantasy that a woman can be elected president?

Now, Palin in the VP chair, I don’t know what that would do exactly.

        1. She’s a danger to their economic future, their environmental future, and their right to privacy.

She’s not a pit bull with lipstick, she’s Dick Cheney in drag.

          1. Excellent!

Palin is in the historic vein of the women who thought that they should not have the right to vote.

Palin takes all the advantages of the women (and men) who have gone before to pave the road and in turn, is trying to tear up the asphalt now.

            1. Do you support Obama’s recent remarks calling Sarah Palin a pig?

              He said:

You can put lipstick on a pig.  But it is still a pig.

An obvious reference to Palin’s speech.  The diff. between a pitbull and a hockey mom:  Lipstick.

This is a shameful attack by Obama on Ms. Palin and her historic acievment.  I will not be supporting Obama any longer.

              1. and call her Charlene but she’s still be a pig.

I can only imagine what Ann would have to say about Sarah Palin. (And btw, Obama was referring to McCain’s economic plan being the same as George Bush’s, so you can knock it off with the pretend pearl-clutch.)

Parsing is absolutely right, there is something pathologically retrograde and small-minded about Palin. The idea of her across the table from Putin’s third-level economic deputy, much less an actual world leader, scares the crap out of me.

              2. The only thing that is “obvious” is that you want others to believe that phony line of yours.

I’m afraid you have zero chance of convincing us you are in any way “offended”.

Look away from your RNC talking points for a second and read the actual story with the actual quotes, not something you “want” us to hear.

                http://www.guardian.co.uk/usla

You need a new shtick, or a new handle…

              3. If you were actually a Hillary supporter, which is obvious you were not, you would have known about this:

McCain himself used the exact same phrase to describe Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s health care plan just last year. “I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig,” McCain said in October of 2007, describing Clinton’s universal health care plan when she was running in the Democratic primary. He also, in February 2007, used the phrase to describe conflict over a resolution on the Iraq War. “It gets down to whether you support what is being done in this new strategy or you don’t,” McCain said at the time. “You can put lipstick on a pig, [but] it’s still a pig, in my view.”

Not to mention McCain having a good chuckle and raising money off his supporters line, “how do we beat the bitch,” referring to Hillary Clinton.

It’s funny how PC the republicans have become in a mere few days. The shameful fake outrage and political theater on the part of rabid righties and trolls like yourself makes me want to donate to Obama right now… yep.

And try this line on for size while I’m making another contribution. Grow the fuck up.
