  1. Stuff a sock in it, 0-1 breath.  Al Davis and his boys didn’t do much better.

Then again, the Raiders at least got beat handily by the defending Super Bowl Champions. Losing to Gus and the dog breath Dolphins is like losing the C&D message wars to Caldera and the Independence Institute (see, got the political reference in there…)

  2. This is so massive and the potential for fraud and abuse is so great, we are going to have to watch it,” Sessions said. “The government will spend your money before you know what happened to it.”

    Good article.

  3. Is this some sort of elaborate exit strategy? We know he’s not getting the traction he wanted, and that he hasn’t been able to guarantee the support within the 7th. So is this the beginning of something else?

  4. So Beauprez is dropping out!  Gotta hand it to him for the nice cover story – doh, my back!!!  well, it’s a good way to save a little face when the coronation doesn’t go quite like you planned!

  5. It’s time for the Holtzman campaign to bring out the “Duck.”

“Beauprez misses lobbying meeting due to ‘back pain’
By Ellen Miller, Special to the News
    September 10, 2005

GRAND JUNCTION ? U.S. Rep. and GOP gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez missed his appearance at the Western Slope’s lobbying and promotional organization’s fall meeting Saturday because he was in a local hospital with “extreme back pain,” according to his spokesman.

Beauprez was “fit as a fiddle” Friday evening at Club 20’s opening barbeque, said his aide, John Marshall, but “my guess is, he slipped a disc overnight.”

Beauprez failed to appear at a “meet and greet” campaign appearance at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at a bagel shop in downtown Grand Junction, and didn’t make it to Club 20, where he was scheduled to give opening remarks at 8 a.m.

Instead, Marshall said, Beauprez spent the morning at St. Mary’s Hospital, decided he’d rather get home to Arvada to see his own doctor and received a dose of painkillers to make the drive possible.

“He’d rather be home,” Marshall said. “The people at St. Mary’s are wonderful, but he’d rather be home. He has a driver.”

U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., and state Attorney General John Suthers handled the opening remarks. U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., was the lunch speaker, while Tancredo and former Gov. Dick Lamm appeared on a panel to discuss immigration.”

  6. Nobody in the state actually believes that Holtzman will win the nomination over Beauprez, yet you Dem knuckleheads continue to show Holtzman as a favorite.  Clearly you guys wouldn’t make it as bookies in Vegas.  I’ll take all you got… $1,000 – $10,000 – more on Beauprez at 5-1.  And, if there as an over-under on Holtzman — he’ll finish under — for sure.

  7. It’s funny to hear the site called “Dem knuckleheads”. Given the slnt of the coverage, I was of the opinion it was run by “GOP knuckleheads”

I agree with “get real” about the odds. They don’t seem to match reality very well, in any of the races. They also have not been updated in a while. There has been a declared Dem in CD5 for weeks but his name has yet to appear. I realize his chances are similar to the proverbial snowball in Alabama but he should at least be mentioned.

  8. I still do not understand why they have not added Joel Hefley to the 5th CD line, at least until he says he is not running.  If he was going to step down, he would have done it by now, because the most logical time for him to do so would have been in time for the Governor to hold a special election in November, but that did not happened.

Hefley usually announces late in the year if he is going to run again or retire, so maybe we will know soon enough if he should be on the line or not.

  9. I’m sorry, duh, I guess I misunderstood you: you said “no experience in elective office” as if it’s a bad thing.

Walk outside – smell the roses – and talk to your neighbors. BB is a shmuck who cow-tows to leadership, ignores his district and serves himself. So much for “experience”.

  10. Jonathan,
It would surprise me if Hefley quit early just to create a special election. He is far more likely to simply not run again in 2006 (if he IS retiring). Special elections cost a lot of money that counties have not budgeted for and I am sure Hefley would not want to needlessly cause that budgetary crunch for the counties in his district. A special election is open to everyone so no one political party gets any particular advantage out of it.

This is why special congressional elections are reasonably rare (at least in Colorado). Although sometimes they are unavoidable, like when Congressman Swiggart (spelling?) died in the early 80’s. I “think” that was the last time we had one in Colorado, but that’s taxing my memory a bit.

  11. Bob may think he’ll walk all over Holtzman, but before it happens he’s going to have to put his **back** into it!!  What are the odds of that at this point!?  I’ll take 3-1 for Holtzman!

  12. BB just assumed all of Colorado wanted more of the same, a little more Owens and Benson in our lives.  I, for one would rather see us…I don’t know maybe take back the legislature, a congressional seat, etc instead of allowing ourselves to continue on this downward spiral that has become the Owens administration.

If you want more of the same, by all means, please vote for Bob Beauprez.  Let’s see how many other seats we can lose in this state.

  13. BB finally realized that without muscle in his “back” he can’t get anything done.

Plus, you lose support of the Western slope when you “pull your back” on them!

  14. Just by way of an update, Rep. Beauprez will undergo back surgery Wednesday morning. Having a herniated disk is a uniquely painful living hell. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Congressman…

  15. Thanks for the info, Thoughts & Prayers. Even though I disagree with the man’s politics, I wish him no ill. He has always struck me as a decent person. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

  16. Watchout T&P, actual genuine well-wishes have no place on this blog.  Only venom and bitterness.

Honestly it makes me very sad for the state of things when a person suffers an incredibly painful injury requiring an ER visit and back surgery and people gang on with snide comments and just plain meanness.  If Bob’s as hurt as reports indicate you people should be ashamed of yourselves.

  17. Anyone visited MH’s blog lately?  Mr. Technology Secretary must be pretty busy since he’s logged a whopping 2 entries, the last of which was 3 weeks ago.  Honestly, what’s the point?  Other than “I hear these blog things are a big deal and I better have one on my site.”  Surprised too because the rest of the site is pretty strong.

  18. Wow – thoughts and prayers – you must really be on the inside. No one else has heard that; can I ask what your source is? And does Shari know you’re bloggin’?

  19. Wow! You all really are a bunch of idiots. Can’t the Holtzman vs. Beauprez morons knock it off for one day? I see absolutely no excuse for people who are supposed to be on the same side to be arguing back and forth all of the time. In my personal opinion, both republican sides are underperforming. Therefore, you should all stop talking trash and get back to work. Or I guess you all could sit around and pat yourselves on the back while the Dem’s take over the entire state. If I were Beauprez or Holtzman I would fire all of you.
Just in case you morons make it through the entire race without being fired, which I doubt, I would like to see one of you get out there and take it the way Beauprez does. The man obviously works his back off every day just for the opportunity to hear people who are suppose to be on the same team talk trash. Some of which I am sure he is unknowingly paying. That has to be uplifting. I am sure that someone who wakes up every morning with all of that to look forward to is experiencing a lot more than back pain.
You all should seriously be ashamed of yourselves.

  20. Dan,

I said that if Hefley was to resign he would have done it so the governor could call a special election to be held at the same time as the General Election, therefore not costing the counties any more money than they would have already budgeted.

As for giving all parties equal advantage, the Republicans are the only party that will win in CD 5.

The reason that I think Hefley would have at least considered a special election is because there would be a vacancy committee and I hear that Jeff Crank, who worked for Hefley, was effective in stacking the committee to favor himself.  The secenerio I saw was that Hefley resigns, Crank gets the vacncy committee, and he is elected in a special election and can run in 2006 as an incumbant, which would scare off some, but not all, of the competition.
