Fundraising Rumor Mill Quiet

  • by: Colorado Pols

With less than two weeks to go before the book closes on third quarter fundraising efforts, the rumor mill has been surprisingly quiet. Back in June, as Q2 was coming to a close, news was leaking out right and left (some true, some not) about who had raised what. Now? Nada.

The one rumor that has circulated is that Congressman Bob Beauprez will catch Republican Marc Holtzman in fundraising. We find that a little hard to believe, only because Beauprez was down $500k after the second quarter and would need to raise, say, $750k to catch up (assuming Holtzman only raised $250k in Q3). But if Beauprez raised about $500k this quarter, he’ll be near the $1 million mark and hot on Holtzman’s heels.

While the rumor mill is quiet, there is still plenty to watch for as candidates scramble to get their checks in the bank before Sept. 30. A strong Q3 from Democrat Bill Ritter will help him scare off potential primary opponents in the race for governor. In CD-7, Democrat Peggy Lamm will need to raise at least the $93k she raised in Q2 to keep up with Ed Perlmutter, particularly given that she’s already spending money on a campaign team; on the other hand, if she can keep up with Perlmutter and bring in $200k or so, she should see an influx of out-of-district money. The newest entry to the political field, Democrat Angie Paccione in CD-4, will do well to show potential supporters that she has serious fundraising ability.

  1. It is a safe bet that Bob went over $500K mark for this quarter. He has Watson burning up the phone lines and has hired a telemarketing firm to make calls shaking folks down for as little as $20 a call.

But does it matter? Everyone else in the state is in on the C&D fight except BB (and I guess ROD).

  2. If Angie Paccione does not have $100,000 cash on
    hand she is toast.
Will she spend the next few days raising money to get to that level?
Nah, she will spend her time patting herself on the back.
    Marilyn cruises.

  3. Raising $100,000 in ten days is a high hurdle.
It will take a lot of work.
So, Angie is much better off to not try and pat herself on the back.
Angie will not raise anywhere near what is needed to beat Musgrave. Musgrave will finally  the decisive win that will scare off future opponents
