Should Obama have put Hillary in as VP?

As a Republican, I want a weak ticket from the Dems.   I also don’t have a dog in the fight other than that.

My question is:

Based on the fact that an Obama/HRC ticket would have in my mind (and the mind of many R’s including Karl Rove) been completely unbeatable, should Sen. Obama have put her on the ticket to guarantee a Dem victory, and worked all their issues out later?

What will the ramifications be if Obama loses in November?

Obama/HRC to guarantee a win?

  1. It means Bill Clinton would have been the story for the next 70 days. It would have been a ridiculous circus. Now the Clintons get to fade away. That’s good business.

    1. the best argument not to pick HRC.  Bill at best would have been a distraction, at worst he would have been trying to suck all the attention his way.  I think you are really fooling yourself if you think the Clintons will fade away.  Bill by himself is too much of a publicity hound to do that.

  2. but I don’t think that Karl Rove has ever had an honest opinion about this race. If he was saying Obama/Clinton would have been unbeatable then it was probably because he knew it wouldn’t be.

However, if Obama loses, I’m sure your point will not be forgotten by the history books. Really we’ll never know just how powerful (or weak) that ticket would have been.

    1. But I certainly am being honest about it.  I couldn’t imagine who wouldn’t vote for that ticket as a Dem, and now, even though it might be negligible, you have a group that’s talking about sitting out or voting for McCain.

Now, if McCain names Colin Powell as his running mate, it’s over the other way.  Don’t think it will happen (it is a rumor, though), but I’d be just as excited as I would have been dismayed at Obama/HRC.

      1. but you’re right, McCain wins in a landslide if it’s Powell. I think that you said the same thing about David Patreaus too… think he’ll surprise everyone and pick a former military commander?

            1. was the one who gave the big thumbs up to the Iraq War. If she had said no to Bush, there’s no way we would have invaded.

She’s a pretty smart woman, but she messed up big time on that one.
