Obama Bayh 08--Breaking on Drudge Right Now

  • by: HamiltonRoberts

(coughbullshitcough) – promoted by Colorado Pols)

With all the hype that is suppose to be coming of Barack Obama’s VP pick, the DrudgeReport is breaking it before the campaign has a chance to send out a text message.

FLASH: Fri Aug 22 2008 17:52:03 ET /// KMBC’s Micheal Mahoney reports a company in Kansas City, which specializes in political literature, has been printing Obama-Bayh material… MORE… Gill Studios, would not confirm information about the material. They would not deny it either. At least three sources close to the plant’s operations reported the Obama-Bayh material was being produced…

    1. The bumper sticker on Drudge’s main page doesn’t have the same flash common to most other Obama merchandise.  Or maybe the graphic is just a mock-up someone put on the web and not the actual sticker.  The report doesn’t say Drudge has actually seen a sticker, just that he’s heard they’re being made.

            1.    Plus the Dems are going to lose (or kick out) the Connecticut seat from their Senate caucus come Jan.

If we want 60, we will need to aim for 62 (or 61 plus a win by the Dem running for Guv of Indiana).

Either way, it’s a long shot.

            2. Dems need a perfect storm to end up w/ 60 seats.  Being competitive in places like MS, GA, NC, OK, and WY is nice, but the likelihood of winning any of those seats is slim.

                1. although it might be time to dust off the nuclear option if the Repubs give President Obama any trouble with any of his judicial appointees…. 🙂

                2. Repubs managed to screw plenty of stuff up with 6 years of the same thing.

If Harry and Nancy can’t get the job done with reasonable majorities, I’ll have no problem saying “see ya” to them and “hello” to Majority Leader Durbin or Feingold and Speaker Whoever (Rahm Emanuel perhaps 😛 ).

  1. that the Obama camp would contract a company to print materials before announcing the pick through their goofy text message system.  It’s like guaranteeing the pick would get leaked.

That said, I’d love it if Bayh is his VP choice…

    1. After all that secrecy, to blow it by letting some random factory workers know? I’m still skeptical as well.

And you mock the text messages, but I bet you’re going to get one too. 🙂

    1. in fact, it’s encouraged.

The problem you’re referring to was your suggestion the Polis-Gill rift had anything to do with the incidental fact they’re both gay.

CNN has to be right, the text message wouldn’t go out after 10 p.m. Eastern. Anytime before 3 p.m. Saturday now.

      1. …I suggested that they had a rift.  Someone else had already noted that they were gay.  I never said that the rift was gay-related.  I only suggested that it was bitchy (as anyone who saw the attack ads on Polis could easily conclude).

  2. Incumbent GOP Governor Daniels Ahead When 3rd-Party Candidates are Newly Included in Indiana Polling: In an election for Governor of Indiana held today, 08/19/08, Incumbent Republican Mitch Daniels defeats Democratic Jill Long Thompson, according to this latest SurveyUSA tracking poll conducted exclusively for WHAS-TV in Louisville and WCPO-TV in Cincinnati. Today, it’s Daniels and running mate Lt. Governor Becky Skillman 52%, Democrat Long Thompson and running mate Dennie Oxley 38%. Libertarian and Independent candidates each take 3% of the vote; 4% of likely voters are undecided. Compared to a SurveyUSA poll released eight weeks ago, when third-party challengers were not named, Daniels is up 2 points; Long Thompson is down 7. Long-Thompson continues to lead in Northern Indiana. Daniels continues to lead in other regions of the state. 23% of Democrats cross over to vote for incumbent Republican Daniels; 12% of Republicans cross over to vote for Democrat Long Thompson. Independents favor Daniels by 7 points. Among men, Daniels had led by 8, now leads by 23. Among women, Daniels had led by 3, now leads by 6. Among voters age 18 to 49, Daniels’ lead has doubled, from 7 points to 15 points. Among voters age 50+, Daniels had led by 5, now leads by 13.

Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 900 Indiana adults 08/16/08 through 08/18/08. Of them, 779 were registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 645 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely voters in the 11/04/08 general election.

If it’s Evan Bayh and Obama-Bayh win, then the GOP is bound to pick up another senator without even breaking a sweat!

My money is still on Joe Biden, 65.  He’s got more Washington experience than Bayh.  Obama needs to do something to attract older voters and Evan Bayh is not going to do it.

    1. ….the Dems CANNOT lose the Indiana governorship?!  Not that.  Never.  Everything else must bow to the goal of retaining the governor’s mansion in Indianapolis!  Where did we put the national guard……..

      1. if Evan Bayh is Obama’s pick and the Democrats win the White House.  Another Republican senator without spending a dime?  I’ll take that anytime.

Think of it as an upgrade from the Colorado Dems taking the secretary of state’s office.

  3. Drudge is wrong so often yet so many go back to him for information. I think of it as the bug-zapper of the intertubes.

That said, it seems to be ABCNews, you know an actual news source, has broken the story that Secret Service has been dispatched to Joe Biden’s home.

The United States Secret Service has dispatched a protective detail to assume the immediate protection of Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., a source tells ABC News, indicating in all likelihood that Biden has been officially notified that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has selected him to be his running mate.

Sources also tell ABC News that two others said to be finalists for the position of Obama’s running mate — Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and Virginia Gov Tim Kaine — have been told they have not been selected for the vice presidential slot.

Kaine flew to Denver earlier today, is in Denver tonight and has no plans to leave in the next 24 hours. Bayh is at his Washington, DC, home with his family.

Biden was last seen minutes ago at his Wilmington estate where his extended brood is gathering.

The Obama campaign would not comment, but Obama mentioned Biden twice in speeches on the trail this week, both times heralding his legislative leadersip in East Asia.

    Good job Tapper!

    1. Great detective work as usual. Report that it’s Bayh just before Obama announces that it’s Biden.

He’s not exactly Woodward and Bernstein, is he?

    1. The New Democratic Ticket:  Obama-Bayh,Bayh (pornounced…Obama-Bye,Bye)

that’s just classic…  I think you’ve just given me a facebook favorite quote.

      1. I figured Rollie had the better odds, but I thought Cindy was the better choice. FWIW – I also thought JFG had CD-2 as a slam dunk but still backed Jared because I thought he was the better choice there.

        50% ain’t bad…

        1. The other night at Adams central committee meeting. Really nice guy. I stupidly told him my Pols name, which is an ackward conversation piece.
