“All the ideas we supported…from tax policy, to foreign policy; from individual rights, to neighborhood security – are things that Jefferson Davis and his people believed in.”

“Individual rights”? So, um, Trent Lott believed in SLAVERY?
he also believed in neighborhood security.
From the Double Talk Express
It gets better.
You don’t say.
and tomorrow.
… crickets …
No better demonstration that this campaign is really about whether Obama meets voter thresholds, not a straight-up choice between the two.
the incident at the Valley Universalist Unitarian Church. The question is whether this was an act of “terrorism”? Of course it is, even in the post 9/11 definition. Terrorism certainly isn’t confined to foreign radicals, is it? Ostensibly, the perpetrator was motivated by hate towards “liberals” that, to him, represented a dangerous path our society was taking.
The church’s Web site states that it has worked for “desegregation, racial harmony, fair wages, women’s rights and gay rights” since the 1950s. (Holy cow! Now I understand where the killer was coming from!!) Current ministries involve emergency aid for the needy, school tutoring and support for the homeless, as well as a cafe that provides a gathering place for gay and lesbian high-schoolers.
Now, I don’t have all the statistics at my fingertips, but if my recollection serves, isn’t it gays and lesbians on the receiving end of violence and terror?
Who and what perpetrates hatred in our society? It’s a simple question. And why?
Now, I have my own theories, but am interested in yours.
Fear of change into an unknown societal world.
Fear of giving up privilege.
Fear of being proven an idiot?
People who are mentally ill have very distorted visions of reality…if they become paranoid, then they look for “scapegoats” or conspiracies….sometimes it is gays, sometimes it is Jews, sometimes it is the police.,sometimes it is the spouse or parent…..those kinds of irrationality are a function of mental illness..I think that the church shooter fits that profile…
Political movements which use terror, domestic terror in particular, as a weapon are not made up of crazy people, they are made up of people consumed by an idealogy and their attacks are focused, deliberate and very effective….clinic bombing; kidnapping for ransom and to stop democratic processes, or the acts of sabotage against the Nazi occupation committed by the French, and Italian Resistance…or the “Wars of Liberation” against colonial powers…name your century…
Jim Adkisson, the man who shot two people to death in a Tennessee Unitarian church this week because he was angry at “liberals and gays,” had an array of right-wing books at his home. Inside his house, “officers found ‘Liberalism is a Mental Health Disorder’ by radio talk show host Michael Savage, ‘Let Freedom Ring’ by talk show host Sean Hannity, and ‘The O’Reilly Factor,’ by television talk show host Bill O’Reilly.”

that he was worried that he was about to lose his food stamps. Let’s see, you are out of a job, depending on government handouts and food stamps to survive — and you hate “liberals.”?
Alas, no one ever accused the mentally ill of being intellectually consistent.
He’s been made “dependent” on the “liberals” through their misguided (at best) social engineering.
I kid you not. Rush promoted this kind of rubbish back when he was more sane. I don’t know about right-wing talkers now – I can’t stomach most of them for long enough to get a good feel for them.
None of the erudiate writing of Ann Coulter found on his shelf?
any posters on his wall.
Their campaign just released this: http://www.armstrongforcongres…
There’s a name we haven’t heard yet. He’s actually younger than McCain, would appease the right wingers, and should secure Mississippi’s electoral votes.
..local Republican Rep. Vern Buchanan has three ex-employees claiming that their arms were twisted into donating for his run two years ago. And at least one was reimbursed.
He has a $1,000 check copy, and a cash deposit receipt for $960, $40 being for spending money.
He’s the guy that barely beat Christine Jennings despite 18,000 votes MIA.
Along with an Independent candidate. Time to put her up on the DCC Red to Blue list if she isn’t already.
…I think. A lot of people resent that she caused the spending of lots of money to investigate the discrepency. Of course, they probably voted for Buchanan…..
Vern (Buchanan), at least, doesn’t wear Boosh knee pads. Sure, a rich conservative Republican, but he doesn’t toe the rigid party line. (Hello, Doug Lamborn.) He knows where the voter’s hearts are on the environment and he listens!
I’d rather Christine, but I’ll settle for Vern. There’s another state rep known as “Mr. No.” You get the idea.
No excuses here. He’s a disgrace.
Now, about Wm. Jefferson (D)…
Hey, Rep. Jefferson! RESIGN!
Unfortunately, the party can’t make anyone resign – they can only apply pressure. Jefferson seems determined to get as much out of what remains of his office before he’s indicted.
…and good point.
Cheers.
…would want Jefferson to resign.
Unlike another certain party that will not be named, we, the people, don’t want dirtbags with a D behind their name.
I want a whole bunch of dirtbags with D behind their names!
🙂
Torano Exodus 1959 – 3 days (probably) and counting….
Yes, “D” really stands for dirtball. Now we’ll have to kill you.
When will Willian Jefferson (D)LA finally be held accontable?
I don’t feel like searching it out myself right now, so… Does anyone know what the status of his case is? Is he being charged with taking bribes? If so, when does he go to trial? Can Congress do anything about him?
