UPDATE – Garcia’s revised statement linked here

http://www.falconrepublicans.org

After hearing the complaint of many prominent EPC Republicans, party chairman Greg Garcia has decided to modify his position, and cancel his threatened Op-Ed in the Gazette.

In a closed door meeting with State party officials, Garcia staked out a modified position.

Many are waiting to see what Chairman Garcia’s new message will say, and if any campaigns or candidates will be singled out.

  1. …..has everyone else been waiting with baited breath?  Wadhams has spoken, apparently, and everyone with GOP credentials has bent over.  Peace and more be with everyone.

      1. From what I hear the Falcon club had somewhere between little and no influence on this particular decision.

I noticed the link on the Falcon Republicans web site to a KOAA channel 5 story with video, http://www.koaa.com/aaaa_top_s

click on the “watch video” and you will see the Falcon Republicans are far from a tiny little inconsequential bunch.  They are at the heart of this story, and college political science professor Bob Levy agrees with them.  Who’d a thunk it?

  2. I have been in the loop (as much as I could anyway) and gleaned information from a couple of people in the GOP office and directly from a couple of campaigns. From what I hear the Falcon club had somewhere between little and no influence on this particular decision.

My source said this was a choice between “winning the battle and losing the war” and that a decision to adjust the party position was made before the meeting referenced above by the officers and their counsel. MEANING… Garcia has the strength and the political acumen to survive (easily I think) a stab at ousting him but in doing so would have to sacrifice precious resources and time that, in the last three months leading up to November, he just doesn’t have.

While I appreciate that sentiment, I’m just a fat white guy who is “too old for this sh-t” and I woulda stuck to my guns and told the pressures to be to go F–K themselves. While not gentle, I would prefer to see a Chair stick to his guns AND somehow still hold things together and deliver a victory for Republicans.

Bottom line is that I think only political insiders are noticing this skirmish or care about it at all.

    1. 1) The RCF’s complaint was not theirs alone, they just had the stones to push it.

Greg Garcia definitely knows the RCF, he has spoken to the club before, and he would be welcome again in the future.

2)It was not this “tiny tiny tiny” little club that caused the EPC Chairman to change his mind.  It was Greg himself seeing the opposition and recognising that there was in fact some validity to what those that opposed his position were saying.

I credit Greg Garcia 90%, those that presented the case to him 9%, and the RCF 1%.  But name me another tiny little Republican club that had any influence.

I am very proud of my friends and neighbors at this tiny little local Republican club for standing up to the big boys and saying what needed to be said.

  3. Here is the new/old policy on campaigning.

    Statement of Ethical Campaigning

    El Paso County Republican Party

Americans deserve honest, respectful political campaigns and the election of candidates with integrity.  We believe an ideal code of ethical conduct will help achieve this goal.  Like all sincere Americans, we expect those among us who campaign to win our vote to adhere to the following code:

    To be honest and truthful.

    To demonstrate integrity.

    To act with respect.

We believe that the continued success of our American Republic is dependent upon the good moral character of its citizens and the high moral quality of our representatives.

Therefore, we expect every Republican candidate, and we challenge every other candidate, to adhere to these ideals.

      1. See, good people look at the same thing and see different things.  Which is exactly why the subjective opinion of a local party chair to “call out” offending ads should only be used in extreme or blatant cases with wide consensus.

A party chairs power is as an honest broker.  When he steps into the limelight over minor matters, he breaks Reagan’s 11th commandment, and spends his political capitol for dross.

  4. .

    Isn’t that sweet.

What gentlemen we have, both as candidates, and those running the respective state and county parties.

I now realize what a ridiculous fantasy it was,

me dreaming of a 3-way fight-to-the-death Cage Match at the World Arena.

Instead of choke holds and groin kicks,

we would have been treated to the sight of,

    “You go first.”

    “No, you go first.”

“No, I insist, you go first.”

This is just my impression, but between the three candidates,

I can’t really visualize any one of them getting in a fist fight, let alone winning one.

For all the protestations about unfair fighting,

I have yet to see any one of the three throw a punch.

Does CD-5 really want one softie for a Congressman who can’t even duke it out with another softie ?

    .

  5. What a Chairman! Took in $64,000 in contributions this last reporting period (SOS website) and spent $62,000 on salaries. (Total spent over $90,00)

Garcia loaned the party $9,000 to be paid back in May of next year with 2% interest. Only thing, he didn’t consult the executive committee.

Won’t even give the executive committee the financial s.

Where are all of his big donors he has been bragging about?

Only $4,000 profit on the Lincoln’s day dinner? 2 years ago with the former chairman it was $28,000 profit!

A combination of all this plus others should give grounds for a recall if the Republicans had the balls to do it.

This on top of his remarks about campaigns should be enough for a recall.

    1. Was the $28,000 profit from the Lincoln Day Dinner featuring Mitt Romney? The choice of speaker influences the sale of a dinner ticket, or so it would seem.

Have the other figures that you mentioned been published in a financial report? If so, do you know when? Was it reviewed by the executive or central committee?

      1. The $28,000 profit was from the previous year. The LDD held at Mr. Biggs. Don’t even remember the speaker. The one put on during Terry Kunkels term. With the help of wonderful VOLUNTEERS you can make a lot of money if you aren’t wrapped up in trying to impress people with a fancy, over priced venue.

          1. a lot of fun. Dining and Dancing. The speaker was Nicholson (not sure of spelling) from the VA. Interesting buy no Mitt Romney. However a fund raiser is supposed to raise money. The more money the better. The $4000.00 net this year was really a sad showing. Unfortunatley, next years LDD is already scheduled for the Antlers. A lovely place but poorly attended.

            1. Jim Nicholson! He’s a wonderful person and has contributed much to Colorado and the national GOP. As for the fundraising, Lincoln Day Dinner for Republicans and Jefferson Dinner for Democrats are the key fundraisers. Wonder if anyone will come up with alternative fundraisers?

  6. but do you think he did so because he realized how stupid it was or because of the fact his actions not only hurt the local Party, but the statewide campaigns (including McCain)?
