  1. speaking of B.S., I am trying to find out if CIRSA is or is not a government agency.  If it is a government agency, then it should have a.) An open records or public information officer b.) Published financial statements c.) Published compensation of its director, Tim Greer

I have financial statements for CIRSA for 2002 and 2006. Unless I am missing a page, they are not signed by the director. That is a requirement under state law for government “risk sharing”.

I don’t understand why CIRSA is selling public officials errors and omissions insurance, paid for by taxpayers, and then claiming “immunity” to avoid court hearings.

  2. is that a) the board is made up of Commissioners, and b) a county can not be terminated without a 2/3 or 3/4 vote of the board. This allows counties to engage in activites that they know they will be sued for and lose and only pay a deductible of either 10 or 20K.

  3. Many of you know of my father’s cancer and my move to FL to take care of my parents.

I’m just back from the oncologist and the latest PET scan reading………they can’t find anything!

That doesn’t mean the cancer isn’t there, it is.  But it looks like treatments will decrease, there are some details to work out to do this.

Now, if we could just chemo that Alzheimer’s!

      1. And then on top of your Dad’s death, you have no doubt suffered a lot.

No wonder you put up that macho front!  A strong offense is a good defense.  Been there, done that. No one is going to break MY heart……

        🙂

    1. .

you build up treasure in Heaven.

      God loves us all,

but he especially loves those who

      A) Honor their Mother and Father; and

      B) Care for the sick.

Please pray for me, because He pays more attention to the prayers of those he holds most dear,

      and that surely includes you.

      .

    2. watching the “person” disappear breaks your heat, tests your patience and burdens a family in a way that non-cognitive illnesses don’t.

In the tough times remember who you father was–and take breaks when you can: you have to keep your own mental strength up.

Good luck, God’s blessing and  remember you are not alone.

    3. I spent five years in a large seniors program and worked with the Alzheimer’s Association in several capacities.

So, on the one level I’m prepared.  On the other level, no one completely is.

  4. For those of you who are consummate political junkies, no matter your political persuasion, Daily Kos has for the past couple of weeks been posting a summary of the House and Senate schedules for the day every morning.

For example, today’s is here.  There is some, but minimal, commentary in the actual diary, and most of it tends to be explaining procedure rather than issues, so it’s relatively safe for sensitive Republican eyes as well as Democratic eyeballs.

If you don’t want to frequent Daily Kos, the summary comes from a longer pair of summaries at Steny Hoyer’s House website (www.majorityleader.gov) and the Senate Democrats’ website (democrats.senate.gov).  For Hoyer’s site, look at both the ‘Daily Leader’ link rather than the very extensive 2008 Legislative Calendar PDF.

  5. Just got done talking to someone at Colorado Springs’ “Stormwater Enterprise” today, searching for ways to pay the damn thing automatically so that I don’t have to remember to write an mail a check every few months.  (Hint: there isn’t one.)  A thought occurred to me.  I wonder how much it cost them to generate, print, and mail me my bill, pay for the line where I called to ask them a question, pay the guy who got back to me (several days later) after I left a message, and who then talked to me on the phone for about 20 minutes, and then eventually to receive my check in the mail and process it to get their money.  Think it’s more than the $6.45 they billed me for?  I bet it is.

Oh, but if only we paid for all of our city and county services this way.  For example, perhaps we could pass a stupid constitutional amendment that prevents the government from raising taxes to pay for basic infrastructure.  Oh yeah, now I remember.  We did that already.  That stupid thing is why Colorado Springs now has a Stormwater Enterprise.

    Thanks, Doug!

    1. with a quarterly bill for $6.45? Mine is $18.00 every three months. And I live on top of a hill where no water ever collects 🙂

I have no problem paying for work that needs to be done for our infrastructure, but this “fee” is something that needs to be voted on. Luckily it will be this fall.

If it passes, fine. But for the city to just send bills and calling it a fee to bypass our laws is bullshit. And I write that on every check I send them.

          1. One of the scariest moments of my life was having a black bear walk up to the door of the tent, at night, in the Smoky Mountains.  My ex and I were on the other side of that cotton fabric, teeth chattering.

When we were probably no more than 18″ apart he/she turned and walked away, casting a big shadow on the wall of the tent.

We struck camp at 5AM in the pitch black…in about a minute!

    1. only thing is, this isn’t a Bill Burton problem, it’s a David Axelrod problem.

Obama’s communication strategy thus far has been fairly textbook Axelrod.  Now, I can’t stand David as a person (JRE 04 experiences), but the guy is a genius.  If the Edwards communication team had listened to him in 04 I have very little doubt that he would have beaten Kerry.  They didn’t do that.

The recurring problem w/ Alexrod is that the candidates he works for tend to have trouble, as even he has said, “closing the deal.”  He’s great with big picture press and media policy, but bad with the details of day-to-day campaign communication stuff.  That leads to problems…and an inability to be on the “offensive” like the diary talks about.

Obama’s camp needs a real Communication Director for Bill Burton to work under.  No more of this Bob Gibbs, Steve Hildebrand, Jen O’Malley, Dan Pfeiffer combo. (I’ll also take a moment to note that one Jennifer O’Malley Dillon hit me in the head with an egg roll during a 3am argument over precinct captains while sitting in JRE’s Des Moines office some 4 and a half years ago.)

It’s a problem of not being consistent and having a clear hierarchy…basically the same problem JRE had back in 04, IMO…
