Liberals To Greet McCain With "Giant Pea Pod"

  • by: Colorado Pols

UPDATE: Demonstrators got hassled outside McCain’s event today, as the Colorado Independent reports:

Protesters with ProgressNow outside today’s John McCain town hall meeting in Denver were told to throw their signs away or risk being arrested for trespassing…

“McCain’s secret service has told us we can’t exhibit our first amendment rights of free speech,” said Michael Huttner, executive director of ProgressNow.

The protesters were not told to leave the premises but were told they couldn’t display their signs.

Activists are suiting up to “greet” GOP presidential nominee John McCain at his town hall event in Denver this morning, wearing an “eight-foot pea pod costume” featuring “Bush and McCain as peas.” You know, as in “two peas in a pod.”

Advisory follows, should make for entertaining photography.

Press Advisory and Camera Op: Giant Pea Pod to Meet McCain

For Immediate Release

Contact:      Michael Huttner

            303-931-4547 cell

WHAT:  Giant Pea Pod and others to hold press conference and attend Senator John McCain’s Denver Townhall.  They will also hand out pea pods to show McCain’s economic policies are just like Bush’s.

WHEN:     Monday, July 7, Press Conference at 9:30am, immediately before McCain’s speech.

WHERE:   In front of the Denver Center Performing Arts, on 14th between Curtis and Champa.

WHY:     The pea-pod event is designed to emphasize that Senator McCain and President George Bush are “two peas in a pod” as their policies are nearly identical on the economy and other key issues confronting America.

“Bush and McCain are obviously two peas in a pod when it comes to messing up our economy,” said Michael Huttner, Executive Director of ProgressNowAction, Colorado’s largest online progressive advocacy organization. “No matter how many green beans you eat, Bush and McCain’s economic policies are bad for America.”

The eight-foot pea pod costume features Bush and McCain as peas.

McCain will be giving a speech on economic issues at the DCPA Monday.  The press conference is at 9:30am as doors open at 10am.
