  1. Tancredo seeks to debate N.M. governor

U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., has challenged the Democratic governor of New Mexico to a debate over illegal immigration policy following an exchange of heated letters between the two challenging each other’s record on the issue.

Tancredo on Tuesday had accused Richardson of using emergency funds intended for law enforcement along the border with Mexico to instead monitor a controversial volunteer border patrol group, the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.

Richardson replied by accusing Tancredo of distorting the truth “in a desperate attempt to grab another headline” and divert attention from federal inaction on immigration.

  2. Man i hope Tom gets this. He needs to show the world that even those who “care” arent helping the situation. I tell ya Tancredo for President is sounding great right now. I know my time and money would go to Tom for a presidential run.

  3. This should be fun.  Both Richardson and Arizona’s  Napolitano have been trying to play both sides of this issue for months now.  “Yes, we realize illegal immigration is a problem, and no, we’re not going to do anything about it.”

I’m glad to see someone turning up the heat on them.

  4. Jared’s great, but I haven’t heard any noises from his camp hinting at a run for Gov…

The timing might be a bit off for him; he just started up a charter school which serves largely troubled youth – that might be more important to him than running for Governor.

  5. Tom DeLay and Lance Armstrong have more in common than both being from Texas.

Lance Armstrong, seven-time winner of the Tour de France, has recently been accused by French sports magazine, L?Equipe, of testing positive for illegal performance enhancing drugs during the 1999 Tour de France.  The magazine says that they have confirmed ?proof? of his drug use based on testing of Armstrong?s seven year old urine samples.  Since, theses samples cannot be tested again for validity or even confirmed to be Lance?s actual urine, this matter becomes the magazines word against Lance.  More importantly, the damage to Armstrong?s reputation by this latest accusation, in light of his recent achievement and retirement, is devastating.

The French media, much like Ronnie Earle, have been after Armstrong for years.  Let me differentiate between the French media and the French people.  The media are hate-filled and bitter because France has not had a champion of their own national race since 1985.  To add salt to the escargot, their race has been dominated by a brash young American from Texas since 1999.

This is simply unacceptable to the elite that control the French media.  They feel that no mortal man is capable of such a feat, unless of course, he is French.  The French people on the other had, mostly appreciate a champion regardless of his or her nationality.  I have a strong fondness for the French people and this rant is not aimed at any way toward them.

So what does this have to do with Tom DeLay you might ask?  Rep. DeLay was recently indicted in Texas by a grand jury.  This is a big headline regardless of the actual charge.  A headline such as this is as damaging to a politician?s career as a sensational claim of drug use is to an athlete?s career.  Regardless outcome, whether there is guilt or innocence, the damage is done –allowing for months, if not years, of speculation about the alleged crime.

As I mentioned earlier, the French media chose Armstrong as a target because he was successful and they (French riders) were not.  The Democrats have chosen a similar tactic.  They are bitter at their losses in the nation?s elections over the last decade.  They feel that the only reason they losing are because the Republican?s must be cheating.  (Again, in the minds of the media francaise, the only reason Armstrong won was because he was doping.)

So, if you feel that you can?t win, either at your national race or at the ballot box (again because everything is fixed), then you have to attack the leaders and especially those who represent leadership and success.  This was the model by the French media and the same for the Democratic leadership.  If you have no successes of your own, then you have to minimize the successes or your rivals.

Anyone who believes that both of these incidents aren?t classic examples of pure political maneuvering, probably also believes that Jimmy Hoffa really is buried in the end zone at Giants Stadium.

  6. Let Jared enjoy his life, money, and youth for a while.  He’s seasoning right now.  The work he’s doing in education will be rewarded in the future.  He’ll make a fine candidate in a few years.

  7. Any one hear about Rep. Dave Schultheis and other members of the Colorado Republican Study Committee heading down to Arizona to monitor the borders for illegal immigration crossings???

    This should be interesting.

  8. Just got a strange email from Holtzman’s campaign asking me to forward a fundraising email that Beauprez had sent yesterday, could Marc be looking to nail BB’s campaign on campaign finance?  Or is he looking to copy the email?  Anyone else seen this?

  9. All you floating unsubstantiated rumors about money, keep in mind that third quarters are historically the slowest quarter of the year — summers are a hard time to raise political contributions.
