Bloggers will be credentialed for the Democratic National Convention, officials announced this afternoon.
The Democratic National Convention Committee said bloggers must apply by April 15 and will be held to strict criteria, including having been in existence six months prior to requesting credentials and have at least 120 politically related blog posts.
Bloggers must also submit their daily audience and list their authority based on Technorati statistics.
This can only help to further legitimize new media and blogging. The standards proposed are not all that arduous and will hopefully lead to an objective and fair process. I hope to see some of our prominent local bloggers become credentialed.
UPDATE: Square State has more,
On a conference call today, Democratic National Convention Committee Director of Online Communications, Aaron Meyers announced that each credentialed blog in the State Blogger Corps will be given an assigned seat on the floor with their respective delegations.

Or maybe we could just use polster of the year contest;)
😉
because, on a serious note, do they mean anyone who has participated in a blog like this, or do they mean actual blog administrators like Kos?
otherwise it would be the inmates running the asylum
It’s not entirely clear but I think Danny is correct.
I wonder if their rules will be phrased to be clear on that, or if there’s going to be a selection committee that makes sure that only people they’ve heard of gets in. (I like the fact that they say the “bloggers” – not blogs – have to have “been in existence” for 6 months… Heck, if you sibscribe to the right-to-life viewpoint then you don’t even have to have been born yet to qualify!)
Because lord knows some of us have been around 6 months and have made 120+ posts… 🙂
First, this is a great move by the DNC. They’ve clearly seen where the future is headed, and placing bloggers on the convention floor is an amazing privilege.
Having said that, my read on the credentialing process is that BLOGs can apply for credentials; the blog itself must provide the Technorati stats and qualify for the posting requirements. Within that limit, I’m guessing the actual BLOGGER in attendance is more flexible. For example, we could send someone from Colorado Pols who isn’t necessarily a Dead Guv or one of the two current Front Pagers if the person who’s going is a respectable member of this group. For some blogs, this is the only logical choice, in fact.
We should try to get credentialed to sit with the Colorado delegation; we’d be competing with a number of other respectable blogs, but we have as much claim as the others IMHO.
From what I understand then Pols would have to apply and choose to send someone. We could vote on who that would be.
I would love to go, but according to Phoenix you have to be a respectable member of this group. Damn.
Seriously though, this is worth pursuing and would be a great coup for Pols. One thought though – maybe one of the Dead Govs is already going anyway, or already has been planning on this ?
Actually, according to Kos’s summary of the DNC call from the other day, we could “share” the blogging credential between us, and if we don’t get it, we could share with whichever blog(s) did get it.
