Video: Rachel Maddow Explores Gardner's Personhood Flip-Flop

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow went in-depth last night on GOP U.S. Senate candidate Cory Gardner's reversal on the Personhood abortion bans, with helpful background on Ken Buck's failed U.S. Senate bid in 2010. After the jump, watch a second clip of Maddow talking with Lynn Bartels of the Denver Post.

  1. We shouldn't be calling it a flip flop. Gardner is still a dyed in the wool pro-life absolutist. What he did was pull his support for a ballot measure, not flip is opinion.

    1. silly me for hitting post to soon. I meant to add that it actually makes his current position worse then if he had just stayed strong on it – It's bad enough in Colorado to hold a personhood policy positon, it's worse to say I still hold that position, but for political reasons, I can't support it.

  2. Steve Shogan's entry into the race means Mark Udall is reelected.  Dr. Shogan is a brilliant surgeon, pro-choice but also very anti ObamaCare and a fiscal conservative. Most of his votes will come from voters who would otherwise vote for Cory Gardner.

    1. Interesting conversation with Shogan on Caplis's show, today. I thought I heard Caplis say that he was a patient of Shogan.  I agree he will draw votes from Gardner on the fiscal conservative front; however, who knows how the anti-ObamaCare crowd will go and since Shogan is pro-choice, he might pull votes from Udall.

  3. What a sweet, absolutely brutal takedown of the cheap, lying sack of rotting Koch garbage that is the chickensh-t Gardner. Gig 'im, Rachel!

And just think — this is only the very beginning of the political thrashing that's headed his way…

  4. And yet, Gardner is in a virtual tie with Udall.  How did that happen?  Udall is way ahead with women voters.  The question is has Udall picked up all the votes he is going to get on choice issue?  I don't know.

    1. Koch brothers threw a lot of money on negative ads about Udall and it didn't move the meter.  Perhaps the question should be how low Gardner's numbers will go when people start realizing that he wants to deny them affordable health care insurance.

      1. GG.  The negative ads did work.  Udall has not been above 45% in any polling this cycle.  Their point was to depress Udall from getting any traction while the Republicans sorted out their candidate in the primary.

Starting the real campaign with Udall at 45% is exactly what the Republicans wanted.

  5. 50% of people polled in the Q poll don't know enough about Gardner to have an opinion. When you break the numbers down, 58% of women don't know enough about Gardner to have an opinion.  72% of the 18-29 year old sector don't know enough.  Those numbers are huge. Define, Define, Define.  Once people learn about CG, the numbers will move in Udall's favor. 10th most conservative member of House of Representatives representing Colorado in the US Senate? Not going to happen.

  6. I am surprised MSLSD could break away from their NJ bridge "coverage" to fit this in.  With "journalists" like Rachel and drug dealin' Al Sharpton, it is good to know that the finest traditions in American journalism still have a place to call home.
