Democrat Ed Perlmutter announced yesterday that he had received the endorsement of the American Postal Workers Union. While not significant on its own, when you add the endorsement to those from the Employees International Union (SEIU), the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) and the Teamsters Local 537, Perlmutter is well on his way to picking up the full endorsement of the Colorado AFL-CIO at some point.

Ed Perlmutter Earns American Postal Workers Union Endorsement
Today, Ed Perlmutter, Democratic candidate for Colorado’s 7th Congressional District, announced that the American Postal Workers Union officially endorsed his candidacy.
Perlmutter adds the Postal Workers Union to a growing list of key labor endorsements including the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), the Colorado Credit Union League (CCUL), and the Teamsters Local 537.
“I am proud and grateful to add the working men and woman of the Postal Workers Union to my growing list of endorsements,” said Perlmutter, former President Pro-Tem of the Colorado Senate. “My family has a long history of supporting working men and women, a legacy I continued while serving in the State Senate for eight years and one I will advance as the next Congressman from Colorado’s 7th Congressional District.”
Ed Perlmutter was raised in Jefferson County — which includes nearly two-thirds of the 7th district’s voters — where he has lived virtually all his life. For many years, Ed has and continues to support his community through various Parent Teacher Associations, coaching children’s sports and leading efforts to increase education funding for Jefferson County school children. Ed is recognized as a skilled and experienced legislator, quickly earning the trust and respect of his colleagues who elected him President Pro-Tem in 2001. Ed also was instrumental in helping Democrats regain control of the Colorado Senate in 2000, the first time since John F. Kennedy was president. Today, Ed is an attorney with the Denver-based law firm of Berenbaum, Weinshienk & Eason where he specializes in business reorganizations and commercial litigation.

Peggy Lamm had the courage to stand up and oppose the Wal-Mart development in Westminster. Ed Perlmutter was noticeably silent. Labor may take notice of this. The labor unions who hate Wal-Mart may figure out that Perlmutter’s Uncle is a major developer of Wal-Marts including the one proposed for Westminster.
