Check out my post on the new poll numbers regarding the war in iraq. It is great to know that the surge that was put in place has made a big difference in that country.
http://conservativeforchange.b…
Are you saying that the objective of “The Surge” was to alter public opinion in the USA?
I thought the surge was about meeting objectives of security and reduced violence in IRAQ.
How does a poll of Americans indicate whether or not “The Surge” is working? I thought this was an assessment to be made my military leaders in Iraq, not a decision to be made by the residents of Peoria.
does this mean that the Shrub is getting ready to announce that we’re turning another corner in Iraq?
Soon we may see W giving a speech
beneath a banner proclaiming this!
You couldn’t even link to the public opinion poll you’re citing?
You think the goal of “the surge” was to change Americans’ perceptions of the war in Iraq?
You think General Petraeus (that’s the correct spelling, BTW) has changed everything there through the sheer force of his manly personality?
Hoo boy. That’s pretty wacked.
http://www.politico.com/news/s…
I like how when liberals can’t argue a valid point they need to do something like “correct” my spelling.
And what I think is that the people running the war in the beggining were generals that Clinton put into place. Once the Army weeded those ones out, then we started having success.
Clinton’s generals screwed up the war until Shrubya replaced them with real men, eh?
That is priceless. You are tooo cute.
When guys like shinseki said we’d need 250K troops to occupy Iraq he was forced to retire because it conflicted with Rummy, Pearle and Wolfowitz view of military transformation. They forced Franks to come up with an undermanned op plan, one opposed by most of the military.
Get a grip on reality.
Could you send me a dime bag Fedex?
I want some of your reality altering drugs.
The goal posts have been moved so many times that it’s worth recalling that when President Bush called for a “surge” of troops in Iraq, the stated goal was to create the stability required for the Iraqi government to function effectively and begin the process of reconciliation. By that standard, General Petraeus conceded yesterday that the “surge” has failed. Petraeus informed the press that “no one” in the U.S. and Iraqi governments “feels that there has been sufficient progress by any means in the area of national reconciliation,” or in the government’s ability to provide basic public services. (Washington Post)
What I am saying is that the surge has reduced the violence in the Iraq and pushed back the insurgency. That eventually translates into these numbers we are seeing here in this country. People were feed up when the war was going bad and now that it is going good, they are no longer feed up. The media doesn’t talk that much about the war anymore because it is turning out to be a success.
.
The point of the SURGE was to make people in the US think that things weren’t really so bad that we had to pull out.
As it fell off the front page,
we quit thinking about it.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

What if we had a war, and nobody knew ?
What if we had a war, and Americans forgot it ?
Twelve billion dollars per month in tax dollars and it receives one percent of the news coverage during a one week period in February (a sweeps month).
Meanwhile in Colorado, the Schaffer campaign intends to make Elian Gonzales and left wing artists who defile the Virgin Mary the big isues in the ’08 Senate race against Mark Udall.
Yeah, the surge is working just fine!
Your black and white statements don’t hold water. Not all the news out of Iraq is good:
http://www.npr.org/templates/s…
The number of US troop deaths is still on par with most other years of our occupation. And while third-party changes (al-Sadr’s cease-fire, Sunni actions) have lowered the overall violence in Iraq, there has been almost no progress within the government to creating a truly stable Iraq.
Some areas have devolved (Kurdish region esp.), and there hasn’t been nearly enough progress in rebuilding.
The surge in US polls does not correlate to significant progress in Iraq, only decreased coverage in the media.
since it worked lets leave.
If we can’t leave it hasn’t worked: that simple.
When americans say “we will achieve our goals”, most americans have the goal of getting our troops home and I think we will.
As to the strategic goals–we’ve already strengthened Iran and weakened ourselves, better to cut our losses, rebuild, and approach the middle east in a strategic manner, not with plans that appear to be driven by petulance and ego.
You can’t bring the troops home now that The Surge is succeeding.
See? That’s called logic. Like how McCain’s lucky rabbit foot and magical flattened penny have kept him from being recaptured by Viet Cong all these years. You can’t give up on something if it works, you just have to keep doing it. Forever.
This 1957 NRO review of Atlas Shrugged was spot-on:
are two of my favorite books. I don’t agree with everything Ayn Rand espouses but they are good eatin’!
I wonder what critics fifty years from now will say about the literature being written today. There are some stars in group but the majority of it is mind-candy written by hacks more interested in signing bonuses than quality words.
Were Larry Manzaneres and Eliot Spitzer classmates in law school?
In a move that should surprise no-one, the Department of the Interior has decided to open the Roan Plateau to drilling with no restrictions, ignoring all local input.
Governor Ritter indicates that he will now pursue legislative relief with our US Congressional caucus.
Essentially, we’re back to the Russ George plan, limiting drilling to no more than 1 pct of surface. A bad decision by BLM but hardly “no restrictions.”
.
simply trying to defend the honor of US soldiers ?
I doubt it.
…………….
I gotta tell you,
I suspect that it’s a group of young chickenhawks.
I suspect there are no war vets in the group.
As a vet, I know how soldiers can act valiantly, and they can act cowardly, and they can act disreputably.
In VietNam, is was not unheard of for US soldiers to collect the ears of those they killed on a fish stringer.
One acquaintance, a troop leader,
told me that he had to kneecap a particularly wayward soldier who habitually raped young girls as the only way to stop him.
Everything Kerry testified about in 1971,
fellow soldiers I served with in the 70’s told me that those things were done by American soldiers in VietNam.
…………………
All I know about Iraq is what I see on the Internet.
I don’t get the impression that the Army is limiting their recruiting to just choirboys.
Not when MS-13 gang tags are popping up on the FOB’s.
